Chapter 22 - Preparations

Kazuki sat at his desk, staring at the piece of paper in front of him. His hand trembled as he wrote down the details of the task: **Sneak into the girls' locker room during gym class and remain undetected for at least five minutes.** The words seemed to mock him, a cruel reminder of the impossible task he was about to undertake. The system had rewarded him with new abilities, but the stakes had only risen, and the pressure weighed heavily on his shoulders.

He crumpled the paper in frustration and threw it across the room, letting out a deep sigh. The task seemed simple enough in theory, but the reality of executing it was a different matter altogether. The girls' locker room was one of the most secure places on campus, especially after the recent rumors of a pervert lurking around. The thought of being caught, not just by the authorities but by Haruka or any of his friends, made his stomach churn.

Kazuki knew he couldn't afford to be careless. He had to plan every detail meticulously, leaving no room for error. The system had made it clear that failure was not an option, and Kazuki understood that all too well. His life depended on this task, and he couldn't afford to let his emotions get in the way.

Taking a deep breath, Kazuki began to map out his plan. He needed to figure out the timing of the gym classes, scout the area, and identify the best moment to sneak in. His newfound stealth abilities would help, but he had to be smart about how he used them. One wrong move could spell disaster.

Kazuki spent the next few days discreetly observing the gym schedule. He made note of when the girls had their classes, paying close attention to the timing and patterns. He noticed that the locker room was most vulnerable during the transition periods between classes, when the security was more relaxed, and the staff were occupied elsewhere. It wasn't a large window of opportunity, but it was his best shot.

As he scouted the area, Kazuki couldn't help but feel a growing sense of dread. The gym was bustling with activity, and the thought of sneaking in undetected seemed like an insurmountable challenge. But he had no choice—he had to go through with it.

One afternoon, while Kazuki was sitting in the cafeteria, trying to calm his nerves with a cup of coffee, Yuto Saito plopped down in the seat across from him. Yuto was his classmate and a good friend, always full of energy and enthusiasm. He had no idea about the dark secret Kazuki was hiding, and Kazuki intended to keep it that way.

"Hey, Kazuki! You've been looking a bit out of it lately. Everything okay?" Yuto asked, his tone light but tinged with genuine concern.

Kazuki forced a smile, trying to appear as normal as possible. "Yeah, just stressed about some school stuff. You know how it is."

Yuto nodded, taking a sip of his drink. "Tell me about it. Speaking of stress, have you heard about the new security measures around campus? They've really beefed up the patrols near the locker rooms. I guess those rumors about a pervert on the loose weren't just rumors after all."

Kazuki's heart skipped a beat. He tried to keep his expression neutral, but inside, panic surged. "Oh, really? I hadn't heard much about it," he replied, struggling to keep his voice steady.

"Yeah, it's been all over the school forums. They've got cameras set up now and everything. I heard they're even considering installing more locks on the locker room doors. Makes you wonder what kind of creep would do something like that," Yuto said, shaking his head in disbelief.

Kazuki swallowed hard, feeling the weight of Yuto's words press down on him. The added security measures were bad news—very bad news. But as much as Yuto's casual conversation added to Kazuki's anxiety, it also provided valuable information. The increased security meant Kazuki would have to be even more careful and precise in his planning.

"Yeah, that's pretty intense," Kazuki said, doing his best to sound nonchalant. "Guess we'll have to be extra careful around those areas."

"Definitely," Yuto agreed. "But hey, enough about that. Let's talk about something less creepy. You up for a gaming session later?"

Kazuki hesitated. Normally, he would have jumped at the chance to unwind with a few hours of gaming, but his mind was too preoccupied with the task ahead. Still, he didn't want to raise any suspicions by acting out of character.

"Sure, sounds good," Kazuki said, forcing another smile.

As they finished their conversation and went their separate ways, Kazuki couldn't shake the growing sense of unease. Yuto's words had only confirmed what he already knew—the task was going to be incredibly risky. But despite the fear gnawing at him, Kazuki knew he couldn't back down. The system had given him no choice, and he had to see it through to the end.

That evening, Kazuki returned to his dorm room and locked the door behind him. He sat down at his desk, pulling out a notebook where he had been jotting down his observations and ideas for the task. His hand shook slightly as he flipped through the pages, reviewing his notes.

The security cameras were a major concern. Kazuki had noticed their placement around the gym, and he knew that avoiding them would be crucial. His stealth abilities could help him blend in with the shadows, but the cameras were unforgiving—if they caught him, there would be no escape.

He needed to time his entry perfectly, slipping in during a moment when the cameras were less likely to catch him. He also had to account for the increased patrols, which meant he needed to be even more careful when moving through the area. The risk was immense, but he had no other option.

Kazuki took a deep breath and began to finalize his plan. He would enter the locker room just as the previous class was ending and the next one was beginning. This would give him a small window of opportunity to slip inside unnoticed while the girls were still changing. He would use his stealth abilities to remain hidden and avoid detection, moving as quietly as possible.

The temporary invisibility skill he had recently acquired would be his last resort. He could only use it for short durations, and it drained his energy quickly, so he had to be strategic about when and how he used it. It was a risky gamble, but it might be the key to completing the task without getting caught.

As Kazuki went over his plan again and again, his determination began to solidify. The fear and anxiety were still there, but he pushed them aside, focusing on the task at hand. He had come this far, and he couldn't afford to fail now.

He knew he was walking a dangerous path, one that could lead to his downfall, but there was no turning back. The system had backed him into a corner, and he had no choice but to move forward.

The following day, Kazuki made his final preparations. He dressed in dark, inconspicuous clothing that would help him blend in with the shadows. He double-checked his equipment, making sure everything was in place. His heart pounded in his chest as he went over his plan one last time, every detail etched into his mind.

As the time for the task approached, Kazuki felt a sense of grim resolve settle over him. He couldn't let his fear control him—he had to stay focused and see the task through to the end.

He left his dorm room and made his way to the gym, moving with purpose. The campus was bustling with students going about their day, oblivious to the turmoil raging inside Kazuki. He slipped through the crowds, keeping his head down and avoiding eye contact with anyone who might recognize him.

When he reached the gym, Kazuki's heart raced even faster. He found a spot where he could observe the area without being seen, watching as the previous class ended and the students began to leave. His timing had to be perfect—one misstep, and it would all be over.

As the locker room door opened and the students filed out, Kazuki saw his chance. He activated his stealth ability, feeling the familiar sensation of his presence fading into the background. He moved swiftly and silently, slipping into the locker room just as the door was about to close.

The room was filled with the sound of girls chatting and laughing as they changed out of their gym clothes. Kazuki's heart pounded in his ears as he crouched behind a row of lockers, trying to stay as hidden as possible. He couldn't afford to be seen—not even for a moment.

The five minutes he needed to remain undetected felt like an eternity. Every second dragged on, the tension in the air almost suffocating. Kazuki could barely breathe as he listened to the sounds around him, his senses on high alert.

Just as he was nearing the end of his time, he heard a voice that made his blood run cold.

"Hey, did anyone else hear something?" one of the girls asked, her tone laced with suspicion.

Kazuki froze, his heart hammering in his chest. He had been so careful—how could they have noticed him?

"I think you're just imagining things," another girl replied, but her voice wasn't entirely convincing.

Kazuki knew he had to act fast. He activated his temporary invisibility skill, feeling the strain as it drained his energy. He moved quickly, slipping past the girls and heading for the door. He couldn't afford to stay any longer—the risk was too great.

As he reached the door, Kazuki felt a wave of relief wash over him. He had done it—he had completed the task. But the

relief was short-lived, replaced by a lingering sense of dread. This was only the beginning—the tasks would only get harder from here, and Kazuki knew that the system wouldn't let him off easily.

He slipped out of the locker room and made his way back to his dorm, the weight of his actions heavy on his mind. The task had been a success, but the price he was paying was becoming clearer with each passing day. Kazuki couldn't shake the feeling that he was losing a part of himself with every step he took down this dark path.

As he lay in bed that night, exhaustion finally overtaking him, Kazuki couldn't help but wonder how much more he could endure. The system had pushed him to his limits, and he knew that the worst was yet to come.
