AUTHOR'S POV
"Thank you for reaching out, this is the Entrinia Corporation. How can I help you?"
A plain, monotone voice cried from the other side of the call. Violet figured a hint of fatigue weariness mixed with the person's voice, despite her trying to make her tone even. The voice was vaguely familiar to Violet too.
"... I'm Violet Amaryllis. Get Killian on the line."
The sun was already on its way to rest, the moon ready to replace the sun, but Violet was demanding the customer service line of the corporation like she owned it.
"... I-I'll go check if he is still in the building, ma'am."
'Ma'am?'
Violet scoffed at the honorific the lady on the other side of the line used. Violet was somewhat sure that it was the blonde lady that guided her to Killian's office the first time she paid a visit.
"Hello…"
After a long minute, Violet finally heard the voice she was waiting for.
"I found you a suitable woman. When do you want to meet her?"
Her report was straightforward, not giving an ounce of remorse for the tired person on the other side of the line. Violet heard Killian sigh—even though they're just talking to each other on phone and not actually seeing each other's faces, Violet still found it irritating. Killian couldn't think of anything less.
"What's her name?"
"Rosette Ashbourne."
Silence.
Both Violet and Killian fell silent. Killian didn't respond and Violet was still waiting for his response. She was expecting that he'd agree in an instant, but a small possibility suddenly crossed her mind: What if it will take months for me to find him a girl that he actually likes?
'I don't want to work hard…'
Violet felt her eyes go watery and her stomach twist with just the thought. Violet bit down on her lip out of spite. She barely even exerted efforts for herself, and now she needs to work hard for someone else's convenience?
"You think she's suitable for me?"
After an uncomfortable silence, Killian replied. His question made Violet think about what answer she should give him.
But she really did not consider evaluating if Rosette was suitable for him—find a woman who is willing to marry him, this was the only objective Violet considered in finding a woman for Killian. She never thought about suitability…Who would even think about that when they're in a hurry to break free from an engagement?
"...Yeah, of course."
Violet hesitated then answered. If she thinks about it, Rosette seemed nice, she's pretty, and doesn't seem like she's horrible at decision making. Violet nodded to her thoughts, although her evaluation of Rosette was late, Rosette still passed her judgment.
"This friday. You have to be here too when I meet her."
Violet's face turned into a dejected vegetable as soon as she heard Killian's request. She was planning to stay in the village until friday—two days from today.
"I'm busy."
She replied, hoping that Killian will just leave it at that.
"Impossible. You must be reading a book right now, running around the neighborhood, beating up people, or over at your attendant's hometown. You're not busy."
Violet felt her own words choke her. She was just about to defend her excuse when Killian enumerated what she usually did on her daily basis. 'How did he know?!' She thought, her grip on her phone tightening.
Despite her nervousness and sudden rise of irritation, Violet still managed to smile. The smile looked like it belonged to a mad man, but it was still a smile.
"Aww, how did you know those things?"
Violet asked calmly.
"Your parents told me your usual habits."
'Ah, they sold me off again.'
She expected this much. If Killian ever asked her parents about anything that had the topic of Violet, they would answer him.
"I'll just drop her off at your office. I'm not staying to hear your conversation."
It would have been rude to stay just to listen to other people's conversation. Violet could tell that Rosette wouldn't want her clinging around the office while she and Killian talk.
"Fine. 10:00 am."
"Got it."
Killian wanted to add more to their conversation when Violet dropped the call. She couldn't stand sitting on top of the boulder anymore, her back was starting to absorb the cold winds into her spine.
She walked back to Olivia's house with the stars shining above her.
***
Violet already made arrangements for the upcoming meet up of Rosette and Killian. She already talked with Rosette on the phone on when and where she'll meet with Killian, Violet told her that she'll pick her up too.
She actually worked hard to become the bridge for these two, but she didn't mind—as long as she breaks free from the engagement, she'll be happy. A satisfied expression crept up her face as she flipped a page of her book with tea and biscuits displayed on the side table. She was back in their estate alone since she insisted that Olivia should complete the three day vacation she gave her.
This was the life she had been praying for. Just reading, eating and sleeping.
Everything was peaceful, until a sudden thought made her stare out the window. Didn't her parents sell her out to Killian? This alone would have been fine, but it can't be possible that her parents allegedly told Killian about random things. Killian must have asked her parents.
'Your parents told me.'
Killian's answer echoed inside her head miserably like a broken piece of record.
''Your parents told me' my ass…You clearly asked them about my daily routines.'
She was supposed to be pissed off about this, that was the most reasonable reaction she could ever give, but Violet instead found herself smiling.
'I finally have something against him…'
Her smile turned into a wicked one. As if someone was about to burst into her room unwelcomed, Violet covered her irrepressible smile by resting her lips on her right hand's knuckles.
Killian already has a few things to mention that Violet can consider as a threat. First, when she slammed his face down to the floor—if her parents knew about that, she'd experience a new level of hell, especially when she already told her mother that no violence was displayed during their first meeting.
Of course, she doubts that Killian is a shameless guy and will never waver his self-esteem over small and trivial facts. He'll just act like asking a girl's parents about her daily life isn't worth it for someone's attention to adhere to.
'Doesn't matter, he can't f*ck around with me anymore.'
Violet decided to stick with her initial thinking and declared that Killian will shut his mouth when she brings up the topic of him talking to her parents onky to ask what she does on a day-to-day basis.
