Olivia bowed shortly before I entered the room. The butler that opened the door took a glimpse inside of the room before he closed the doors. There's a lot more people inside the dining room than I expected.
"I'm glad you joined us for dinner sweetie!"
My mother, who was seated on the left side of the long table, greeted me happily.
" It's been a long time since I saw you Violet! You really have grown up!"
A rich looking lady seated near my mother looked like she was ready to jump at me. I don't know who she is but I'm sure she's one of my mother's friends.
"Take a seat Violet."
My father spoke with an authority filled tone as usual and I quickly took the seat that was nearest to me.
A lady with deep brown hair—deeper compared to Olivia's, was sitting at my right. She had a beauty mark located slightly above her chin and her almond brown eyes glimmered under the light of the chandelier.
A man in a dark blue suit was on my left. He seems like an associate of my father's company. His glasses were framed with sparkling gold— I could tell that the gold was real.
Both people beside me only threw a few greetings at me and did not try to push any conversations with me further—they are absolute saints. The other guests continued to talk to each other normally. My mother was busy chatting with her gossip loving friends too.
But my father who was sitting across from me—why does he look like he already knows everything!?
His piercing gaze only became sharper as seconds went by. Thankfully, that lady who greeted me earlier when I entered the room yell- spoke to me again.
"Violet! How is my niece doing?! I heard about your engagement with the young master Entrinia! Congratulations!"
"Thank you…"
Niece? This noisy lady is my relative?
Then, another lady, who seems to be another friend of my mother, joined the conversation.
"You really have grown up a lot. I still remember when you were a young child, your mother and I would be worried sick whenever you would come home with bruises."
Another lady who seemed to be in her forties barged into our conversation. Her huge yellow colored hat matched her blonde hair.
"Yes…She was so hard headed back then, always getting herself into fights. I'm surprised she has grown into a wonderful lady now. It's even more surprising that she got engaged to the only son of Entrinia!"
I remember these people. They are the ones who always stuck around my mother like leeches ever since I was a child. Gaining the trust and favor of a wealthy family must be a necessity because these people are really doing their best to get on my father's good side, trying to ask for small favors here and there—they have been trying to do so for years now, but at least they still haven't given up yet.
Some people would use other means to accomplish this too, like these leeches that keep sticking around my mother, acting like they are friends. I won't be surprised if I hear a rumor that these people used my mother's name for their own benefits. Besides, I can't look at them like they are the ones at fault after all, my mother is using these idiots to her advantage too.
The more leeches that stick to her, the wider her array of connections in the business world becomes. She doesn't have any problems looking over the small businesses the people around her have.
Everytime the leeches visit our estate, the host would always smile at them in the most friendly manner possible—of course the leeches would do the same.
I would see the living room showcase clowns smiling at each other every time my mother's friends visit. It's very fun to watch.
"Don't be so surprised! I always knew she was going to follow Claudia's footsteps! Your daughter is becoming just as amazing as you Claudia. The saying 'Like mother like daughter' really is real…"
The lady with blonde hair quickly interrupted. Nice move lady, you're now one step closer to being the most obvious leech.
"Don't be like that now…My daughter grew up as Violet, not as Claudia. I'm sure she will become an amazing woman in the future."
My mother, Claudia, smiled at me with a loving gaze.
"O-of course…I was only saying that because Violet is still young, I'm sure she's bound to more greatness in the future."
The blonde haired lady frantically defended her statement. It sounded like sh*t.
My parents and the guests then continued to talk to each other, leaving me silent, with nothing to do—it's not that I'm complaining about it. I don't like talking to these leeches anyway.
But how could they do this? Invite me for dinner but forget the dinner part? I have been sitting here for a few minutes now and no food ever arrived at the table!
"Mom-"
"I'm so sorry to keep you waiting, but dinner is served."
I was about to speak to my mother when the door burst open and the head chef, who was carrying a small tray in his hands, energetically presented dinner. Took him long enough.
The other servants who were following behind the head chef earlier started to place the dishes on top of the table. As the servants continued to put the dishes on top of the table, my mother exclaimed…
"Finally! I was starting to get hungry."
I was already hungry before I entered the room!
"The chefs really did an amazing job tonight."
My father added while nodding in approval to the head chef.
"Thank you Sir."
The head chef turned around and left the room with a smile on his face.
"Well then, shall we eat?"
My father spoke as he turned his attention back to the table. Finally!!!
