Chapter 5 - Chapter 4: Have lunch together?

Violet's POV

"Exactly for what reasons?"

Wow. He looked happy, his expression suddenly looked more brightened up compared to the sun.

"I just wanted to see him."

I wanted to talk to him peacefully about cutting our engagement, or force him into cutting our engagement.

"Your attendant, Olivia, already spoke to me about this matter."

"... Where is she by the way?"

I asked while looking around the cozy but extravagant looking office.

"She is now currently on a talk with the representative of the young master Entrinia. She should be back soon."

I sat down over a couch near the office table with my arms crossed. A neatly stacked pile of documents were placed on the left side of the table, a cup of coffee on the right, and a few other things like pens and markers were on top of the dark wood table.

"Will you wait for your attendant here?"

He asked out of the blue.

"Yes."

"I see… I don't think I have seen you so eager to wait for someone before."

Possibly because we barely see each other? Is it because you never spared a glance at your daughter? Because you only go out to see your only daughter on crucial occasions and events? Who knows?

"Is that so?"

I caged my genuine thoughts inside my head, making sure it never leaves through my mouth. If it ever did, this office will become a debating ground. And in this case, I just woke up from a nap and I might end up throwing a chair at someone if I ever argued with anyone right now.

"It is so. I barely even saw you gain any sort of interest in the men who asked for your hand in marriage. I believe the young master Entrinia is absolutely suitable to be with you."

My father spoke with much happiness on his face. It's such a shame if he ever finds out that I was planning on sending a nuclear bomb to Entrinia.

"Your mother is also very delighted with this sudden turn of events," He added. "I'm very happy that you finally grew up, Violet."

I hope my allowance grows up too.

A few minutes passed by without any of us speaking another word. My father continued to scan and sign documents while I stared at the ceiling the entire time. It's been a long time since my father and I spent time together… Well, for some it's not basically spending time together. I'm just sitting here doing nothing, not bothering to talk to him, but I still consider it as spending time with my father.

I stood up from my seat, my mind set on leaving the room to go to the kitchen when suddenly, a knock on the door rang the room. Since I was already standing on both my feet, I dragged my body to the door, my hand reaching out for the knob. I opened the door and I saw Olivia on the other side.

"Ms. Violet, what are you doing here? I thought you were still sleeping?"

Olivia asked with a confused and worried tone.

"I was looking for you."

I answered and backed away a few steps, indicating for her to come inside the room. Olivia did so and bowed shortly to my father.

"The young master Entrinia said he agrees to meet the young lady Amaryllis tomorrow afternoon."

Olivia stated.

"That's wonderful."

My father's answer was short, but anybody could tell that he was happy, extremely happy.

"That's great."

I exclaimed with a happy expression. My father nodded in agreement, but Olivia only looked at me with a pair of suspicious eyes. What? She thinks I'm really going to beat someone up tomorrow? She doesn't think that I suddenly had a change of heart and I actually will act properly this time?

"The young master Entrinia asked for a small favor from the young lady Amaryllis though…"

Olivia turned to me with a calm expression.

"... What is it?"

I asked, slightly shaken aback. My father looked at her with a focused gaze too.

"The young master Entrinia said the only free time he has is during lunch tomorrow. He can only meet up with you during that time, he also apologized for not being able to take you to a different place or a restaurant for your meetup. He can only meet up with you in his office due to his busy schedule."

"What? Why is he apologizing for that? It's completely fine."

I replied and flashed a closed eye smile. Olivia's eyes shook for a moment and no words left her slightly agape mouth. My father was the same too, both shocked and confused expressions were written on their faces. It's fine, it's actually better to just talk in young master Entrinia's office than let him take me to a restaurant. A bigger problem might arise if we talk about breaking off our engagement in a public space.

"... Well, I think you should head to the dining room now, it's almost time for dinner. I'll join you and your mother shortly."

My father's unusually cheerful voice was heard again.

"Alright."

I replied shortly and walked out of the room with Olivia behind me, leaving my father alone in his office. Now that was different. My father actually wants to have dinner together with the family? This engagement they threw at me really is special.

"Are you going to join your parents for dinner tonight?"

Olivia asked, still walking a few steps behind me.

"I don't want to."

"... Violet, this is the first time I've seen the master Amaryllis being so happy for you before, maybe you sh-"

"He's not happy for me, he's just happy that he finally found a use for his good for nothing daughter. I'm sure you're very much aware of this."

I stopped Olivia from finishing her sentence. My foot became glued to the floor. I couldn't move an inch from the guilt of raising my voice at her, but what could I do, I wasn't even aware of my own anger rising anymore. Trying to give me false reassurance to a fact that I am already aware of is just like adding fuel to a fire.

I took a deep breath to calm my nerves. Olivia hung her head low, her brown hair falling over her face trying to hide her expression. Sh*t, I really f*cked up this time.

"... Thank you for arranging the meet up by the way, and… no need to worry about me. I won't cause any trouble anymore… I'm sorry too for…"

Why the f*ck is it so hard to apologize?

Sweat beads ran down my forehead slowly as I thought of other words to say to her. I was about to open my mouth again when I suddenly heard a light chuckle from Olivia.

"... I don't think you'll ever stop causing trouble…"

She said in between her laughs, her laughter became louder and more audible. Seriously? I thought she was going to get mad at me. I was nervous for no reason at all!

"I'm serious here."

My brows knitted together while watching her laugh like the world was about to end. I suddenly feel embarrassed for being nervous in front of this woman.

"Sure sure..."

She held her stomach from laughing and finally, she stopped.

"Good luck with not causing any trouble to your soon to be husband though." She added.

"I did not direct that to him and I'm not going to marry that damn Entrinia!"

"We never know."

She hummed calmly and walked ahead of me with a teasing expression.

***

"We're here."

The driver stopped in front of a tall building. I opened the car door with the sunlight glinting off my sunglasses. I finally came prepared against the sunlight. My white shoes made contact with the concrete ground as I stepped out of the car.

"Have a good day young lady Amaryllis."

The driver bid farewell before driving the car to the parking space.

I'm going to have a good day alright.

I walked inside the building. It was filled with employees and clients of all sorts walking around, going in and out of the building. I'm finally in the company building of one of the wealthiest families there is. The family of Entrinia.

I specifically asked my father not to bring any attendants with me, even Olivia. I don't want any word about how my conversation with the young master Entrinia went, reach my father's ears. Olivia reports to my parents monthly about my movements and behavior, my expenditures, and even my hobbies to keep me in check. Olivia told me about this of course, and I basically knew since she gets called to either my mom's office or my father's. Knowing this, my parents will surely ask Olivia about my conversation with the young master Entrinia.

I walked over to the receptionist's table and looked at the clock. 11:46 am. My timing is pretty good.

"Good morning! What can I help you with?"

The receptionist greeted me with a bright smile.

"I'm from the family of Amaryllis. I'm here to see Mr. Killian Entrinia."

I answered with my hands on the pocket of my hoodie, my sunglasses were still reflecting the sun rays that managed to seep inside the building through the clear glass walls.

"I see! You're Miss Violet Amaryllis. Mr. Killian has been waiting for you."

She smiled again and stood up from her seat. She then motioned towards a blonde woman walking towards us.

"This is Eliane. She will guide you to the main office of Mr. Killian."

She introduced the woman with blonde hair who was now beside me.

"Alright. Thank you."

I expressed my gratitude to the receptionist and followed the blonde lady to the elevator.

The woman did not speak another word after that. Even as we got in the elevator, she stayed completely silent. She pressed the close button of the elevator and then pressed the floor number. The 20th floor. So that's where his office is. The woman still did not utter a single word. Is she mute? But she doesn't look mute.

"Is the young master Entrinia really not that busy?"

I asked to spark a conversation between us while smiling like an innocent child. My sunglasses were still covering my eyes despite being already inside the elevator, I have no plans in taking my sunglasses off though.

"He's very busy."

Her reply was snappy like it was against her will to even talk to me.

"Oh… Is that so? I must be really lucky that he had spared a few hours to just to see me."

My grin became wider, almost reaching both of my ears.

I think this lady hates me.

"I think he will only see you for a few minutes, his schedule is always packed. He doesn't like having unimportant visitors see him at the most unexpected times, especially when he's in the middle of an important business."

Wow... Unimportant, huh?

Her brows furrowed as she spoke with a calm voice, but I could see it. I could see the hatred and anger burning in her eyes. Her expression is anything but calm.

'Hehehe…' My own soul caged my own laughter internally. She really does hate me. At first I thought she was just having a bad day at work but really, she was just mad at me. She probably hates me because of Killian. Everytime I mention anything about Killian, the violent-looking fire in her eyes becomes brighter.

"Well… I'm happy that he at least spared some time to see me, even if it's just a few seconds, the fact that he agreed to see me and have lunch together already brightens up my day."

Lies. I'll never eat lunch together with Killian Entrinia. A sickening sweetness lingered along with my words. I'm disgusted with my own words too. I'm stomach is already feeling ill hearing my own mouth utter those words, but annoying this lady is more important.

"... H-have lunch together?"

She suddenly started stuttering as she asked the question. Her eyes widened with a look of disbelief.

"Yes! Isn't it great?"

I exclaimed with a happy and excited expression.

"Y-yes… It's great…"

She doesn't seem happy about this conversation at all.

"... But just now you looked so surprised when I said I was having lunch together with Mr. Entrinia hmm? Does he not spend his lunch time with anyone?"

I placed a finger on my chin, and a wondering expression plastered on my face. I could not even tell anymore how fake my expression is, but who cares. She's buying it like cheap candies.

"... He doesn't… I never saw him eat lunch together with anyone… even with…"

She hung her head low as her voice became softer and quieter as the words flew out of her mouth one by one.

'With you? You like him don't you? Damn moron, I feel so sorry for you.'

I crossed my arms and stood proud in a winning stance. Wow, annoying people really is the best. The lights of the elevator bounced off my sunglasses once again.

Ting.

A short sound echoed through the elevator before it automatically opened it's doors. The small screen on top of the elevator doors showed a small display of numbers. The 20th floor. We're already at the 20th floor. The smile I wore disappeared as I stepped out of the elevator with both of my hands still in my pockets.

The blonde lady named Elaine stepped out of the elevator too, but her face looked like it was crushed by a meteorite. Her eyes did not have that annoyingly fire of determination anymore. Is she really that sad about me having lunch with her boss?

"...Please follow me."

The lady spoke in a defeated and quiet voice again. After the both of us stepped out of the elevator, she proceeded to guide me deeper into the hallway in front of us. There were only a few people here compared to the first floor. The two of us did not spoke another word through the entire hallway until we finally stopped in front of two huge coal colored doors with golden handles. This must be it.

Elaine knocked on the door thrice but after a few moments, not a single voice on the other side answered. Is he sleeping? Eating? Cleaning his up his office? Why won't this guy open the door? Is he dead?

"Ms. Violet from the family of Amaryllis has arrived to see you."

And with that, Elaine held the golden colored handles and opened the doors wide.

"... Welcome, young lady Amaryllis."
