Chapter 10 - Chapter 9: An Old Friend of Mine (1)

"Mrs. Rosalie, how is Eloise doing?"

I asked while speeding up my footsteps to catch up with the lady wearing a huge hat.

Dinner was over and we were all going our separate ways now. My father and his other associates went back to his meeting room, and it seemed like they still had a few matters to discuss before ending the night. My mother is currently leading the other guests outside of the house to see them off. I was supposed to go back to my room, but an idea was injected into my brain the moment I remembered that the lady who was wearing this ugly hat had a daughter.

If I could grab the chance to talk to her daughter and convince her to marry Killian—the convincing part is not actually necessary, I'm a hundred percent sure her daughter would marry Killian without a single hesitation. I'll be living my happy life if I could just have a talk with her daughter.

"Oh my, Miss Violet actually remembered my daughter's name?"

The lady retorted with a question. My mother, who was walking ahead of the group, turned her head along with the other ladies.

"Well, of course. How could I forget my only playmate who…actually stuck around."

Eloise Florence, the daughter of Rosalie Florence who had been acquaintances with my mother since I was a child. She would often force her child to play with me, hoping that her daughter and I would become close friends together. I overheard them talking behind the entrance once.

'Remember, you have to be good friends with Violet so Claudia will have a better perception of us, alright?'

Rosalie gripped Eloise's shoulders tightly as if it was the most important mission Eloise must accomplish.

Eloise did what her mother told her of course, she was just a daughter after all.

Eloise did what she could and tried her best to stick around with me. Sometimes she would bring her dolls and other toys and offer them to me, and I would suggest different games to play everytime.

I made her crawl down in the mud with me, threw a small garden skink into her hair, and made dogs chase us around town. These activities were against my will too, I did not like crawling in the mud, I had to sell my soul to the devil just to pick up a garden skink, and getting chased by dogs scared me out of my wits. What if those dogs were filled with rabies?! One bite and our soul would have been sent straight to heaven! I did my best to shake her off, but damn is she persistent…

I would always see her in front of the doors to my room every time Rosalie would visit. I couldn't point anymore if she's still being forced by her mother to get closer to me, I mean, no mother would force their children to suffer just to get on someone's good side!

The last time I ever saw Eloise was after I took her to see a gang war.

I did not plan on getting involved with the fight at first. I already learned how to punch and kick at that time, but the gang members were at least sixteen years olds! How much damage could a ten year old child possibly inflict?!

Unfortunately, I fell off the stadium we were standing on and landed on top of a gang member. He was angered of course but it was alright, the guy was already beaten up to pulp and his punches didn't have the chance to land. One kick and he passed out. The other guys who were wearing the same uniform as the one I kicked all looked towards me with vicious gazes.

'That kid is in the enemy's team!'

A horde of noisy, bloodied fighters rushed towards me. A guy swung a bat straight to my head, but luckily, I was a fast runner. I was able to defend myself from the angry mob for a few seconds, but just as I thought, I child couldn't probably beat these brainless, ugly cows. A bat went straight for my leg while I was running, unfortunately, I couldn't avoid it anymore. I went swimming directly to the ground with a broken leg.

If it wasn't for the opposing team, I would have been beaten up to death.

'Get the f*ck out of here!'

A member of the other team shouted angrily while stopping a guy from approaching me.

Eloise hurried down the stadium and helped to get up on my feet again. She had to carry me on her back all the way back to the mansion.

It was my mother who stepped in and advised Mrs. Rosalie to stop Eloise from playing with me again.

At least I got what I wanted, but Eloise was crying ceaselessly after witnessing a bloody fight scene.

I'll apologize to her if I get the chance.

"Right…Eloise really had to go through a lot when playing with you."

The woman chuckled along with her response.

"If you want you could pay her a visit. It has been a long time now since you too saw each other, I'm sure she'll be delighted to see you again."

Her response was exactly what I was wishing for. Now all I had to do was speak to Eloise, but I don't know if Eloise will be happy to see me...

"Is it alright if I visit her tomorrow?"

I asked while stopping on my tracks, we already reached the front door. The leeches were saying their goodbyes to my mother before walking out of the estate. They really didn't have to say goodbye, I know they'll be back tomorrow anyway. Mrs. Rosalie was the last to leave.
