"Snap out of it, young lady! I'm not here to joke with you!" The voice interrupted angrily, jolting her out of her imagination.
She had been imagining things all along.
"Who are you? And what are you doing here?" she managed to ask as she stylishly ascended the stairs.
"Who I am doesn't matter; what matters now is that I'm here to take you, and that's all that matters. Now stay where you are if you don't want me to blow your skull off!" the guy threatened.
Anna's eyes moved down to the gun he was holding, and she was forced to scoff. "Threatening me with a toy gun? Who does he think he is?"
"Shot me if you dare!" Anna mouthed, running back towards her room.
"Stop there!" the guy ordered, running after her.
"Shot me if you dare! Or rather, catch me if you can!" she yelled as she ran. He chased her furiously.
She pushed the door open, dashing in and then banging it shut. She tried locking it, but she couldn't due to how the guy was twisting the doorknob and pushing the door; it seemed impossible. The guy almost succeeded in forcing the door open when his phone rang. Thinking it was hers, he got distracted, and she used the opportunity to lock the door.
He realized immediately and began banging on the door.
"Open the door, bitch!" he cursed.
Anna immediately picked up her phone, dialing Adam's number. As soon as he picked up, she began yelling at him.
"Someone's here trying to kill me! Adams, I'm so scared. He's holding a gun! Adams, I don't want to die. What if something happens to my baby?" she questioned anxiously, panting.
"Just stay where you are, Anna. I will be there before you know it. Just don't get hurt," Adams replied pleadingly before ending the call.
She tightly placed her hands on her ears, curling her legs together—fearfully.
"This is not over, little bitch! I will be back for you!" the voice said as it faded. He was gone, but she was still scared.
Almost immediately, she heard loud footsteps, causing her heart to skip again.
"I'm here now, Anna! Open the door!" she heard Adams say, but she still wasn't convinced it was him; she wanted more signs.
"Adams! Is that you?" she asked, and he replied with a "yeah." "Come on, open up," he continued.
"I don't think I have the strength for that, Adams. I'm tired," Anna muttered lazily.
"Fine, I'm coming in. Just a sec," Adams said, inserting the key into the keyhole and throwing the door open, revealing the pathetic-looking Anna.
"What took you so long? I almost died of a heart attack!" Adams, whose expression was pitiful, quickly ran to her, hugging her tightly to himself.
"I almost thought I lost you. You got me really worried," Adams, whose hand was curled around her waist and his head buried in her neck, whispered into her ear.
"What took you so long? He almost got me!" Anna chuckled as she began hitting his chest playfully.
"Tell me, who was it? Did you get to see his face? What does he look like?" Adams glared at her as he asked those questions.
"How am I expected to know all that when he didn't even give me a chance to look at him? He was hell-bent on getting his hands on me!" Anna's face turned pale as she said those words.
Adams finally broke free from the hug and then began taking a proper look at her to see if she was in any way hurt.
"He didn't touch you, did he?" Adams questioned, getting her annoyed.
Her pretty face turned pale once again. "That's all you care about?" Adams looked at her for a while and then took her hands.
"I'm sorry, Anna. I was only scared. What if something had happened to our baby? Please." His hands moved slowly to her cheeks as he caressed them.
"It's fine; pack my things. Let's leave," Anna's words took him aback; he was forced to chuckle.
"Pack your things? You want to go with me?" Adams asked in amusement.
"What? You don't want me to come with you?" Anna's tiny but yet annoying voice questioned angrily.
Adams looked at her in confusion. What's up with the mood swings? One minute she's happy, and the next second she's angry. Who does that?
"Not that, baby. I'm just shocked you actually want to go with me," Adams caressed her hair as he said those words.
"Don't touch me! Just do as you are told! I might change my mind if you continue delaying!" Anna pushed his hands off.
Adams waved at one of his men, who rushed in immediately.
"Boss," he bowed.
"Pack her things; we are leaving," Adams ordered the guy, who bowed again.
Immediately the guy opened Anna's wardrobe, Anna began shouting to the shock of everyone, "Don't tell me you expect him to touch my undies!" Anna shamelessly asked.
Adams' eyes widened in shock while his men tightened their faces, trying hard not to laugh.
"Do it yourself if you still want me to go with you," Anna told Adams, who stood like a statue. "Seems you don't want me to go with you. Fine! I will just sit back and wait for them to come take my baby and me; not like we are important to you." Anna's words forced Adams to move his feet. He reluctantly moved to her wardrobe and began packing her things.
Months ago, the almighty Adams Winthrop wouldn't even imagine himself being ordered around by a woman, but here he was, packing her things. He wouldn't even do that for his mom.
Anna watched closely as he arranged her clothes. She would shout at him if he did it the wrong way, so he did it carefully to avoid insults.
"You are too dull for my liking. I'm tired of sitting already!" Anna kept complaining.
Adams brought out her undies, holding them up. "Where am I supposed to put this?" he asked, not minding the fact that his men were looking. Anna felt shamed by his silly behavior and question.
"Put it on my head!" Adams foolishly headed towards her, placing the undies on her head, and the next thing was a slap across his cheek, to the shock of everyone.
Adams' eyes widened as he placed his hands on his cheeks.
His eyes reddened as he approached. "DID YOU JUST SLAP ME?" he asked, his eyes burning in fury.
