Chapter 3 - Embarrassed

A few minutes later, she dragged her feet out of the bathroom, looking pale.

"Are you okay?" He asked worriedly, checking her out.

"I'm fine, just weak all over. I think it is because I haven't had a good sleep for days. You don't have to worry about me. I'm fine!" She snapped, pushing him off slightly.

"Get ready, we are seeing a doctor right away!"

"We? I think you should exclude me from the 'we' because I'm not going anywhere. I'm perfectly fine. Like I told you earlier, I just need to rest and nothing more!" She chimed in.

"Sleep, indeed! I will have my men get you the maids you sent away, and I need you to get ready. Like I said earlier, you don't have to worry about anything. I will send someone to come help you. I don't want you stressing my unborn child."

"Whatever!" She rolled her eyes.

"Make sure to look as breathtaking as you can!" He added as he made his way out of the room.

6:00 PM

Anna stepped out to meet Adams, who had been waiting for her. He came earlier than expected so he had to stay outside and wait for her.

A wow escaped his mouth the moment he saw her. The dress, her makeup, everything was perfect. He had specially chosen the dress for her and right now he wasn't disappointed; it was perfection.

"Hey!" She snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Hmm," he muttered, running his hands through his thick hair.

"Are you trying to murder me with your glares? You almost got me falling with your lustful glares!" She fired.

"I wasn't staring, okay! I was only looking! Don't misquote me," he snapped back.

"Whatever!"

"Come on, hold my hands," he gestured, stretching out his hands, which she reluctantly took.

"You smell nice," he complimented.

"So what? Please, can we just get going? I'm not in the mood for your pretense. We will pretend in front of the world, but when they ain't around, we are nothing! So don't act like I'm your lover or something!" She blurted

He only scoffed.

The car pulled into the magnificent mansion, leaving her speechless. She had seen mansions before, but this one seemed to be bigger than the previous. If the outside could be this stunning, what would be the fate of the inside? She wondered, trying really hard to keep her composure.

"Welcome to my home. Let me give you a little hint about my family. Apart from my mom, my dad has another wife who had four kids for him. Then, he also got two from outside, and they all live here. I'm sure you know what that means! Four girls and three boys, altogether we are seven in number.

Theresa, his second wife, is the mother of four: Arnold, Bethel, Tricia, and the youngest son, Drake. The other two are Tyler and his brother Sean. I'm the only child of my mother, so I expect you to level up! Don't get intimidated by their glares. Anyone who tries rubbish, make sure to give him a dose of his own medicine. Don't act all holy; I don't like it. Then again, don't laugh with any of them. They are more dangerous than vipers; they don't love me, so there's no way they would love you. They are all pretenders, except for my mom," he muttered the last part.

"No wonder you are fake! Absolutely everything about your family is fake: fake people, fake smiles, fake love, fake everything! I wonder how I'm gonna cope with their fake smiles!" She jibbered.

"When you meet fake people, you play fake. When you meet real people, be real. At this stage, be fake!" He added.

"I can't believe you are telling me this! That's what I do best. Let's get going," she mumbled, walking ahead of him.

"Looks like someone is desperate to see what her in-laws look like. Hope you won't get disappointed," he added thrilling behind her.

Hand in hand, they walked into the large seating room where all his family members were already gathered.

"What took you so long? It's already 6:30; you always get on my nerves!" Fired his dad.

"Why won't he when his so-called fiance spent hours dressing just to impress," his stepmom added, rolling her eyes. It was obvious she was jealous.

"You see, we didn't mean for it to happen that way, but you do know how pregnant women behave. It took her hours to even get on her feet. She seems to be too tired lately. Everything seems to be too hard these days. Getting up to take a shower seems too tiring. You see, I have to do all the work, including helping her take her bath. So you can't blame us for showing up late. Huff! Taking care of a pregnant woman is harder than I thought. I just hope this doesn't get harder than this," he said, trying to provoke them, and as expected, it did work on them.

"And who said she's pregnant? You are just cooking this up!" His stepmom chipped in.

"Yes, he's only trying to play us! Show us proof that she's pregnant. I wonder how much he paid you to make you put up this show. I mean, you don't look pregnant!" Arnold, one of his brothers or rather the second son of the family, added, glaring at her.

"The last time I checked, early pregnancies ain't written on the face! You just have to sit back and give it time. Don't get yourself stressed over what you have no control of!" Anna snapped, earning a gasp from almost everyone.

"What? She's even a rude ass!" Arnold gasped.

"You heard her, mind your business!" Adams defended.

His stepmom sprang up, pointing her fingers at Adams.

"How dare you! So it has gotten to the point of bringing in your low-class bitch to insult my son?" Then she turned to her husband, "Are you just gonna sit back and watch her ruin, insult on my son? Aren't you going to do a thing about it?" She yelled angrily.

Arnold couldn't do a thing, all he could do was boil underneath.

"So what should I do? Beat her or? I think your son got what he deserves. He wouldn't have been insulted if he had faced his business!" His dad pinpointed.

She turned to face Anna, who had already taken a seat beside Adams on the large table.

"It's all your fault, you little bitch!" She yelled, emptying the cup of wine she was holding on Anna's face.
