A tan grime-covered woman was dragged into a courtroom, her bruised wrists tied behind her back, hidden by her long messy black hair. The men who were dragging the woman threw her to the ground and yanked her by her hair, forcing her to look up.
The woman was faced with the court, who glared and laughed at the woman, sneering in return."Camilla Lucius, thou are charged with the following crimes: witchcraft, hiding among humans, and the murder of a human. How doth thou plead?" The judge stated, raising his brow in amusement.
Lucius stood firm and defiant. "I plead not guilty." she said, her voice strong and unbroken. Lucius looked down, a readless look on her face before she said, "I won't lie. I am a witch, I didst encave amongst thou. but I ne'r harmed a human! for that, I plead innocent! It is thou who is guilty, thy 'honor'"
A man gasped at this, and the women looked upon them with pure hatred and spite, "do not lie 'i the house of god witch! thou are guilty! we found thy unholy books! a woman of thy beauty should'st not e'en wot how to read!"
"A woman whom reads is a woman whom can provide more for her village" Lucius stated, angered at the men's stupidity. Another man who had been silent until now, scoffed and stood, addressing the court.
"Gentlemen, Methinks we all hit together, a woman whom reads, can only provide base fortune to her issue" The man stated, the other men nodding along with him. "Your god hath no meaning to me, nor to the magical creatures thou force off our own land" Lucius snarked, amber eyes flashing red.
"ENOUGH OF THIS!!!"
The judge slammed his fist to the court table, "Camilla Lucius, for thy crimes against humans, thou are to be executed by burning towards the pyre!!!" the men grabbed Lucius by the arms, dragging her out of the room as she thrashed.
"I am innocent! I didst not commit any crime against thy kind! Thou are the monsters who are trying to wipe us out! I shall not stand for this! SIT AUTUMNUS ET ENDOR MALEDICENT TE INFERIS!"
*CRASH*
A dark skinned witch gasped awake, breathing heavily as he looked out the dark window of the castle library. The stormy weather was barely visible through the falling water on the clear glass. The witch's strange pink eyes gazed at the window dazedly as he ran his hand through his coily shoulder length hair, which was a dark cherry red. A sudden lightning strike followed by the loud sound of thunder caused the tired witch to jump and release a soft squeak.
Blushing slightly at his squeaks, the witch looked around quickly, making sure no one heard him. Relieved no one was around, the witch heaved a sigh before rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Images of the strange dream he had about a woman in what seemed to be the dark ages flashed in his mind. The dream was so vivid, like the witch was really there, witnessing the awful scene first hand.
'What. . . Was that. . .?'
"Have a nice nap?"
The startled witch flinched at the sudden voice behind him, causing him to once again release a squeak as he stood up. He looked behind him to see a tall albino wolfshifter, dressed in a black silk robe, his bare muscular chest visible underneath. The wolf's white and blonde hair was fluffy and long, flowing far past his waist, with violet eyes that shone brightly in the reflection of the candle light in the man's large hand.
Recognizing the abnormal wolfshifter, the witch quickly stifled a squeak and bowed firmly. "Your majesty! I'm sorry, I hope I wasn't disturbing you." The witch apologized, seeing a look of confusion cross the wolf's face, but the look quickly turned to amusement as he chuckled lightly. "You need not bow, nor apologize. I was just leaving when I came across a sleeping cow." The king joked.
The witch didn't know if that was an insult or not. Nonetheless he politely bowed and introduced himself. "I'm High Witch Cova's new apprentice, Leo Gale, I started only yesterday." The wolf nodded and smiled at this, amused by Leo's manners "Right, Cova said he was hiring an apprentice, apparently he's a son of the infamous Gale family." The king mentioned playfully, bowing as well as he reached his hand out to the witch.
With a nervous laugh, Leo placed his hand in the kings', watching as he softly kissed his tattooed hand. "And obviously, I'm King Lupin. However, for someone as handsome as you, you may call me Lupin." The king teased, causing Leo to become flustered. With a fanged grin, King Lupin brought his attention to the old book Leo was reading before drifting asleep.
The book was large with a velvet color cover and gold brim, the cover matched the torn and tattered pages. The title was 'The Midnight Pyre' written in gold cursive letters. It was absolutely horrendous looking. "Such an ugly book. Even the story itself is strange, as well as nonfactual." King Lupin said, scowling as his wolf ears tilted to the side in disgust. Leo nervously laughed and replied, "Is it really that bad?"
Scoffing, King Lupin explained, "It's terrible. The color of the cover doesn't mix well with the title, it claims that humans were victims of magical creatures. You can tell it was written by human men by not only how they explain the dark ages, but also women entirely." Leo played with a strand of his coily hair as he processed the king's words, you could tell the witch barely read the book before falling asleep.
"Guess it's a good thing I fell asleep then." Leo joked, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yes, well if you want the true history of Krystal, I recommend this book." King Lupin then pulled out a book from behind his back. The book was large with a black color cover and silver brim, the pages were neat and well cared for. The title read, 'Krystal, Kingdom of Magic and Pyres' in silver cursive letters.
As Leo looked over the cover, he gently grabbed, not wanting to damage it. "It explains the history from neither humans nor magic, but both. And the cover is much more appealing." Lupin smiled, moving a strand of hair out of Leo's blushing face. "Okay, I'll give it a read. Thank you, King Lupin" Leo said, smiling at the King, who gently grabbed and kissed the witch's hand, and while speaking with a sweet tone, "then I wish you goodnight, little Gale~"
