As they drove through the city, Maya's curiosity got the better of her. "Why did Victor kidnap me? What's going on between you and him?"
Chase's expression turned grim. "It's an old feud, Maya. Between our families. The Blackwoods and the Smiths."
Maya's eyes widened. "Smith? As in, my parents, Richard and Elizabeth Smith?"
Chase nodded. "The same. Our families have been rivals for years, fighting for power and control. Victor's just a pawn in their game."
Maya's mind reeled. She had no idea her parents were involved in such a world. "But why me? What do I have to do with it?"
Chase's eyes seemed to cloud over. "You're the key, Maya. The leverage Victor needed to get to me. And now, you're in danger."
Maya felt a chill run down her spine. She was just an artist, not a pawn in some billionaire's game. But as she looked at Chase, she knew she was in this now, whether she liked it or not.
