_Chapter 5: The Safe House_
Chase drove Maya to a secluded mansion on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by tall trees and a high-security fence. "This is one of my safe houses," he explained. "You'll be protected here."
Maya stepped out of the car, gazing up at the mansion in awe. "It's beautiful," she said, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. The mansion's stone façade seemed to glow in the fading light, and the sound of a fountain burbled in the distance.
Chase smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "I'm glad you like it. You'll be safe here, Maya. I promise."
As they entered the mansion, Maya couldn't help but notice the way Chase moved with confidence and ease, his eyes scanning the surroundings as if searching for potential threats. She felt a flutter in her chest, drawn to his strength and protectiveness.
The interior of the mansion was just as impressive, with high ceilings, marble floors, and lavish furnishings. Maya wandered through the rooms, taking in the artwork and sculptures on display. Chase watched her, a small smile on his face.
"Make yourself at home," he said, as Maya ran her fingers over the keys of a grand piano. "You'll be here for a while."
Maya turned to him, her eyes narrowing. "How long is a while?"
Chase's expression turned serious. "Until I can neutralize the threat, Maya. Until you're safe."
Maya felt a shiver run down her spine. She knew she was in danger, but with Chase by her side, she felt a sense of security she couldn't quite explain.
