Chapter Five - The meeting.
A few days later, their work-free day was over. Grasping her curvaceous hips with her hands, Catherine gazed at her attractive reflection in the mirror. Grinning, she hurried over in her high heels to retrieve her handbag from the bed. With poise, she walked down the stairs to find William seated in the dining room.
"Morning." She greeted but there was no response. While they ate together at the table, William started, "We have a meeting to attend today." He said casually.
Catherine raised her head when she heard what he said. "What? Why?"
He stopped digging through his food and faced her. "Because it's important, and you have to be there."
"I have plans for the day. Unfortunately, I cannot join you at your meeting. You only just informed me now, William; maybe if you had mentioned it earlier, then maybe I would have considered."
"Do you think you have a choice?!" He pushed his seat, stood up, buttoned his seat, and continued, "Meet me in the black Ferrari. Don't keep me waiting, I don't like to be late." He smirked and then walked away.
She watched him walk away before rolling her eyes and sucking her teeth. So this was how it was going to be, she would be acting like a robot and do whatever he wanted. Having no other choice, as her husband said, she slammed the car door shut and joined him, and the engine revved.
"Where to sir?" The driver asked.
"To the company of course, where else?" He said sarcastically.
Arriving at the company, people murmured and whispered a lot of things when they saw them walking in together, acting like a loving couple.
~That must be his wife?~ One said.
~I heard his marriage was arranged~ the other responded.
~His wife is so pretty~
~That's not the boss' wife~ one was opposing. Probably didn't know she was.
Catherine could feel the people on her, which made her even more uncomfortable. But she ignored them.
Getting to the meeting venue, William pushed open the glass door and chose a seat among the 5 seats in the special board meeting room. He immediately got in his phone and so did Catherine before Mr. Dunlop finally appeared.
"Welcome sir." William welcomed him, and they handshake; they then started the meeting. After about an hour, they were done talking about new projects they would run with Dunlop's Company.
Catherine immediately excused herself to use the bathroom. On her way back, while adjusting her outfit and going back to where she was given an office, she overheard William and Mr. Dunlop's conversation; she immediately hid behind the wall to hear what they were saying.
"Is he aware of the plan? I mean Mckellen?" Dunlop whispered.
"Of course not. He doesn't have to know. We'll just get it done. All we need is his signature on those papers, and everything else will fall in place." William responded.
"I hope the documents are safe?" Mr. Dunlop asked.
"Yes, they are safe and sound hidden in my office," William assured.
Catherine became confused. She furrowed her brows and wondered what documents and papers they were talking about. She cleared her throat and walked in causing them to instantly change topic. "Yeah so William, it was nice having you both."
Mr. Dunlop and William simultaneously stood up and exchanged handshakes while Catherine stood by the side with her hands clutched together, wearing a fake smile on her face.
"Thank you, Mr. Dunlop, we'll take our leave now," William responded.
William and Catherine exited the Company; as she walked behind William, she couldn't take her mind off what William and Dunlop were talking about, and she didn't want him to know she was eavesdropping on their conversation.
She held her nail tip in her teeth and her head buried in the ground, thinking seriously of what they were talking about not noticing when he stopped walking. She subconsciously bumped into a hard wall which was his back.
She immediately froze and raised her head to face him. "Can't you see?!" he sparked.
"Sorry," she muttered. When they got to the car, the driver started the engine and then Catherine ordered him to stop. William was surprised at the audacity. "I need to get down!" She instantly grabbed her purse and got out of the car.
"Where do you think you're going?!" William yelled but got no response.
"Get me the fuck out of here!" He ordered, feeling very irritated by Catherine's actions.
"Yes sir!" The driver answered.
Catherine took a cab straight to her best friend's place since it's been a while since they saw or spoke to each other, plus she needed to clear her head. She dialed Felice's number while in the car, "Hi girl, where are you?"
"Oh hi Cathy, I'm at the mansion?"
"Okay, I'm on my way."
"Cathy--" Felice was immediately interrupted when Catherine hung up the phone. She wondered why Catherine sounded like she was being chased by a pack of rabid wolves.
Minutes later, Felice heard the sound of the doorbell; she opened the door and met Catherine standing behind it.
"Hi Cathy, everything okay? You sounded a bit tensed over the phone."
"Yeah, I'm great." They both walked towards the living room. Felice started, sounding excited, "So tell me, how has it been? I mean with William."
"Well, nothing exciting. Just total boredom and awkwardness." As she spoke, Felice went to the kitchen to get a couple of snacks for them.
"So guess what? The Bentleys plan to throw an official CEO celebration party for their son William. Unfortunately, I was invited."
"Oh my gosh!" Felice immediately burst into laughter. "Are you kidding me? Why, unfortunately? It won't be as bad as you think, trust me." She giggled.
"Yeah right, the thought of it makes me want to puke." She scoffed.
"Don't overthink it." Felice encouraged.
"Oh yeah, Also I heard the strangest thing today, I and William attended a meeting today at his company, with some guy I met at the wedding, so I think they're planning something that I'm not supposed to know about because they immediately stopped talking about it when I walked into the room."
Felice sat up straight and began to wonder why they didn't want Catherine to hear what they were saying, "Tell me, what did you hear?"
"I heard them talking about some document; I think they need my dad's signature for something bad. I'm not sure."
"Hmm, what are you going to do about it?"
"I'm going to talk to my parents and warn them about it I guess. I'm going to find out."
"Catherine no! Don't do anything crazy!" Felice warned.
"You know me too well; of course, I'm going to sneak into William's office without anybody's knowledge. I'm not going to let anybody sabotage my family!"
