Since last Tuesday, when I spoke with Ryan about assisting him with his late wife's accident, I had figured out two things.
One, my suspicions were confirmed, Master Evans did not know that Ryan was still secretly investigating the cause of the accident. In fact, I overheard them arguing over it that night, and the next morning, Ryan was gone.
The second thing I noticed was that being an investigator while staying in doors was impossible. How could I find any new clues if I was always inside the residence? I needed to go outside, but that was not easy either because if I went out, I would have to report myself to Master Evans, and it was obvious that if he placed anyone by my side to go with me, they would definitely report on my activities which would alert Master Evans of Ryan's secret and make Ryan hate me.
I thought of many ways to avoid this, but I couldn't come up with something that was good enough. It was so frustrating to think about it.
" Mom? Mommy?" Jay Jay called out.
" Y-yes, Jay Jay?" I answered him as he got me put of my thoughts.
" What's the matter? Do you want a fruit?" I asked
He didn't say anything he shook his head. He looked very sad with his lips pouted and his tiny short arms crossed. Furthermore, he had a wronged look on his face, and I could figure out what was wrong. I knelt before him and said," Sorry, Jay Jay. I have been distracted. Do you still want to play with mom?" I asked him.
Jay Jay came to my room to ask me to play a game with him, but because I was distracted, I didn't answer him. I didn't even catch the name of the game he proposed. I play with him. That was why he had such a facial expression.
His eyes lit up like cute Christmas lights, and he vigorously nodded his head and said," Will you?"
" Of course." I replied with a smile. To be honest, I missed Jay Jay because I hardly saw him during the day. The kid had a schedule buiser than my own because if his academy, he would leave early in the morning and only come back in time for dinner sometimes. Their school was overworking and being too harsh on them. But then again, the academy was attended by solely heirs to kingdoms and small lands. They were being taught what they needed to govern people even at such a young age.
So today, Jay Jay finally had a day off, and he wanted to spend it with me.
We went to the game's room. The room had a different variety of games to choose from but Jay Jay made a beeline for a chess board.
" Jay Jay, do you want to play that game? Are you sure?" I asked. Out of all the board games that existed, I hated chess mostly because I have always lost against my father for as long as I could remember.
" Yes, Daddy said this game will make me smarter."
"R-Really?" My mouth twitched at his answer.
He nodded seriously and said, "Even the teachers at school said so."
" Okay then, let's play it then." I couldn't refute. But what the hell was wrong with this kinfdom? How could they let a 4 year old play chess? Were they not afraid that they would dull the poor kid's imagination and ability to make believe?
