They watched her like a hawk, curious eyes scrutinized her from head to toe. The whispers did not help as they clouded her already fuzzy thoughts with helplessness.
"A female Human Champion? Is this a joke?"
"The Annual Hunt was a sacred celebration. How dare that—"
"Watch your mouth! The shadows have ears. They're everywhere," a harsher hushed voice said.
"What is High Lord Virmichael thinking? Throwing a human girl in the den of wolves? They'd devour her!"
"Madness. The Dark Hold has gone mad."
