Chapter 13: Faebound Oath
Manon glanced around at the other humans. Dark circles shadowed their eyes, their clothes were crumpled, and they smelled unpleasant. She fidgeted with her dress, feeling a pang of guilt for how poorly they were treated.
The High Seer beckoned the humans to step forward. The faint hum of magic danced in the air. The hall was enveloped with silence as everyone honored the sacred ceremony.
"Take this Faebound Oath. To swear your life unto the stone. Speak your name—"
"What if I don't want to?" The harsh voice came from one of the humans.
Everyone was shocked. Manon saw the crest on his chest, he was the Human Champion of the Goblin Court.
"Then you will have to die tonight, human." The High Seer's voice wasn't threatening, her voice was a tone of unusual calm.
"Then kill me."
Murmurs filled the banquet hall.
