Chapter 19 - Chapter 18: The University Uprising

EXT. UNIVERSITY CAMPUS - DAY

The sun casts a warm glow over the bustling college campus, where a massive protest has erupted. Hundreds of students flood the quad, their chants for Evo rights echoing through the air, mixing with the rustle of protest signs: "Save the Evos! Stop the Genocide!" The tension is palpable, the students' voices filled with anger, fear, and defiance.

JAMIE and DON stand on the outskirts of the crowd, their expressions stark contrasts—Jamie, dressed casually, shifts nervously, while Don remains calm, a practiced hand resting on his concealed holstered weapon.

JAMIE

(frowning, scanning the crowd)

I didn't expect it to be this... intense.

DON

(calm, his voice steady)

Protests always are. People fight hard when they're scared—when it's about survival.

JAMIE

(uneasy, glancing around)

Do you think there are any Evos here?

DON

(nodding subtly toward the gathering)

We're about to find out. Stay sharp.

The crowd's chanting crescendos as a line of heavily armed police officers march into view. Their arrival only intensifies the protesters' shouts. The tension in the air thickens like a storm waiting to break.

STUDENT LEADER

(shouting through a megaphone)

We demand justice for Evos! They deserve to live in peace, not in fear!

Suddenly, in the center of the protest, a young student stumbles and doubles over. His skin begins to glow and shift, turning a vibrant shade of blue as veins of energy pulse across his body. The crowd gasps, eyes widening in realization—he's an Evo.

JAMIE

(startled)

Don, look—he's changing!

The police, already on edge, notice the transformation. They shout orders into radios as backup arrives—armored vehicles block the exits, and soldiers in tactical gear move in quickly, their weapons trained on the Evo student.

SOLDIER

(through a megaphone, coldly)

Evo detected! Stand down immediately, or we will use force!

STUDENT

(panicked, backing away)

Please, I didn't mean to... I can't control it!

The soldiers inch closer, weapons drawn, as the Evo student stands frozen in terror. Don steps forward, placing himself between the boy and the approaching soldiers, his hand resting on his pistols.

DON

(stern, unwavering)

Back off. He's not going anywhere with you.

Jamie moves to Don's side, tensing for a fight, his muscles ready to spring into action.

JAMIE

(firm)

You're not taking him. We're here to protect him.

The soldiers hesitate for a split second, but then, without warning, one opens fire. Bullets whizz through the air, but Jamie reacts instinctively, using his strength to rip chunks of concrete from the ground, creating a makeshift shield that deflects the bullets. Don moves like lightning, drawing his pistols and taking out soldiers with deadly precision, each shot finding its mark.

DON

(grinning as he fights)

Showtime, kid. Let's make this quick.

Jamie slams his fists into the ground, sending a shockwave that topples a wave of soldiers like bowling pins. Don moves through the chaos with graceful efficiency, his movements calculated as he disarms and disables the advancing troops.

JAMIE

(breathing hard, overwhelmed)

There's too many of them, Don!

Before Don can respond, the ground rumbles violently. A shadow looms overhead, and both men look up to see a massive figure descending from the sky. ZARVOX, a towering Martian warrior, lands with a thunderous crash. His red, glowing eyes burn with menace as he steps forward, the ground cracking beneath him.

ZARVOX

(booming voice, mocking)

You dare interfere with the Legion's plans?

DON

(gritting his teeth, recognizing the threat)

Of course, it had to be him.

JAMIE

(confused, staring at the Martian)

Who the hell is that?

DON

(grimly)

Zarvox. Martian warlord. Bad news.

ZARVOX

(laughing darkly)

Two against one? Hardly seems fair... for you.

Zarvox raises his hands, summoning a crackling energy orb. Blue lightning dances between his fingers before he unleashes it, a devastating blast hurtling toward Jamie and Don. Jamie reacts quickly, forming a debris shield, but the force of the blast sends him skidding backward, barely holding his ground.

DON

(shouting)

Stay on him, Jamie!

Don charges forward, firing a barrage of bullets at Zarvox, but the Martian moves with inhuman speed, dodging effortlessly. He retaliates with a powerful telekinetic wave, sending Don crashing into a nearby building. The impact is brutal, but Don shakes it off and rises, a smirk on his face.

DON

(smiling through the pain)

That all you got, alien?

ZARVOX

(snarling)

You haven't seen anything yet.

Zarvox launches into the air, landing behind Jamie with blinding speed. He grabs Jamie by the throat, lifting him like he weighs nothing. Jamie struggles, his eyes widening as Zarvox tightens his grip.

ZARVOX

(mocking)

You're weak. Just like the rest.

Don, seeing Jamie in trouble, hurls a series of explosive devices at Zarvox's feet. The resulting explosions force Zarvox to release Jamie, allowing him to stumble back and catch his breath.

DON

(sarcastic, as he reloads)

You're welcome, by the way.

JAMIE

(panting)

Yeah, yeah, thanks.

The two exchange a quick nod before regrouping. Don pulls out a high-tech device from his belt and tosses it to Jamie.

DON

Use this. It'll amp up that cannon of yours.

Jamie attaches the device to his arm cannon, which begins to glow with a fierce electric blue energy. He charges it up, his eyes locking onto Zarvox, who is preparing another Martian energy attack.

JAMIE

(determined, teeth gritted)

Let's see you block this!

Jamie unleashes a massive energy beam, enhanced by Don's device. Zarvox tries to form a shield, but the beam overwhelms him, slamming him through a nearby building. The structure collapses around him in a cloud of dust and debris.

ZARVOX

(roaring from the wreckage)

This isn't over!

Zarvox rises from the debris, his body battered but still brimming with power. His red eyes glow brighter as he summons a telekinetic storm, ripping apart the campus. Cars, benches, and even sections of buildings are pulled into the vortex, swirling dangerously in the air.

DON

(gritting his teeth, eyes scanning the chaos)

He's tearing the place apart!

JAMIE

(yelling over the storm)

We can't let him destroy the whole campus!

Thinking quickly, Don pulls out a grenade-like device and hurls it into the eye of the telekinetic storm. The device detonates, releasing a shockwave that disrupts Zarvox's control. The storm dissipates, leaving the campus in shambles but intact.

DON

(urgent)

Now, Jamie! Finish it!

Jamie powers up his cannon one last time, the energy crackling around him like a lightning storm. With a shout, he charges at Zarvox and fires a concentrated beam of energy that strikes the Martian square in the chest, sending him flying across the quad. Zarvox crashes into the campus fountain, the water exploding around him as he finally falls still.

DON

(panting, surveying the damage)

Finally.

As the dust settles, the once-bustling campus is left in ruins. Buildings are partially collapsed, debris litters the ground, and students cautiously emerge from their hiding spots, their faces a mix of fear and gratitude.

DON

(looking at the destruction)

We made a mess of this place.

JAMIE

(nodding, weary but satisfied)

But we saved them.

Don turns to the blue-skinned Evo student, who has been hiding behind a fallen column, still trembling with fear. Don approaches and kneels down, extending a hand.

DON

(gently)

Come on, kid. We're getting you out of here.

The Evo student hesitates but eventually takes Don's hand. With a nod, Don and Jamie teleport the boy to safety, leaving the wreckage of the campus behind.

CUT TO:

INT. NEXUS - GINGORDA'S OFFICE

Back in the Nexus, Don and Jamie stand before Gingorda, who is pacing back and forth, his face tight with frustration. Holographic news screens display footage of the destroyed campus, along with news anchors reporting on the chaos.

GINGORDA

(furious)

Do you realize what you've done? This is all over the world! You nearly destroyed an entire university!

DON

(defensive)

That kid was going to die if we didn't step in. I did what I had to.

GINGORDA

(exasperated)

I trust you, Don, but you need to be smarter. You fight like a wrecking ball, and now the world sees us as terrorists!

Don crosses his arms, clearly irritated but knowing Gingorda has a point.

DON

(reluctantly)

Fine. I'll be... stealthier next time.

GINGORDA

(sighing, worry lining his face)

We've got to be more careful. The Legion will come after us even harder now.

CUT TO:

INT. LEGION HEADQUARTERS - ASHIMOTO'S CHAMBER

Deep within the dark confines of the Legion Headquarters, Ashimoto sits on his towering throne, his deep, raspy voice echoing through the chamber. Uchizoro kneels before him, his head bowed.

ASHIMOTO

(menacing, with venom in his tone)

They're growing bold. This cannot continue.

Uchizoro nods in agreement, his expression serious.

UCHIZORO

(gravely)

The Insiders are becoming a serious threat, my lord.

Ashimoto rises from his throne, his presence filling the room like a dark cloud. His eyes glow with a terrifying energy as he contemplates his next move.

ASHIMOTO

(darkly, with sinister intent)

Then we'll show them true power. I'll send war to their doorstep. Every Evo hiding on this planet will be wiped out.

As he speaks, a malevolent smile spreads across his face, his laughter echoing through the room, chilling Uchizoro to his core.

UCHIZORO

(softly, a hint of fear)

Shall we initiate Protocol Eve?

ASHIMOTO

(shaking his head, dismissing the idea)

Not yet. They're still a nuisance. But if they push further... then we will unleash it.

Ashimoto's laughter grows louder as he envisions the destruction to come, his mind already crafting the next phase of his brutal campaign.

FADE OUT.
