Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Seeds of Betrayal

Inside the grand court of Hastinapur, a serious discussion was taking place. The sabha was filled with the presence of respected elders, ministers, and members of the royal family. King Dhritarashtra, seated on his throne, asked Pitamah Bhishma about the recent conflict between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The question of punishment had been raised, and everyone awaited Bhishma's judgment.

Bhishma, known for his wisdom and impartiality, addressed the assembly. "The boys were wrong in their actions, and they have been duly punished. However, the larger issue here is the growing tension between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The true nature of a person is revealed in how they treat those who are not their kin."

As Bhishma spoke, the doors of the court swung open, and Arjun entered, holding the ball and stick given to him by the mysterious Brahmin. With a respectful bow, he handed them to Bhishma. The elder examined them for a moment, his expression unreadable. Without saying a word, Bhishma nodded, allowing Arjun to leave the court.

As Arjun walked out, his mind raced with thoughts of the Brahmin's words and Bhishma's silence. Meanwhile, in the garden, Duryodhan watched Bheem wandering alone. Sensing an opportunity, he approached his cousin with a smile, holding out a basket of fruits. "Bheem, do you want to taste some of these? They are sweet, but I know a place where the fruits are even sweeter, in Pramankoti," Duryodhan said, his voice dripping with feigned kindness.

Bheem, with his innocent and trusting nature, was easily convinced. "I'll wait for my brothers," he hesitated, but Duryodhan was quick to challenge him. "Are you afraid to go alone, Bheem?"

Stung by the taunt, Bheem agreed to go, unaware of the danger that lay ahead. As they left the palace grounds, Dushala, who had been playing nearby, noticed them together. A sense of unease filled her, but she remained silent, unsure of what to do.

Back at the palace gate, Pitamah Bhishma was engaged in conversation with Guru Dronacharya, who had just arrived. The two exchanged respectful greetings, unaware of the treachery unfolding in the forest.
