Emerging from the overgrown pathway onto the town's main street, Maverick and the rest manage to arrive safely. The street was deserted, the faint light of dawn barely illuminating the empty roads.
Maverick glanced down at Wolfgang, his usual fiery spirit seemed dampened, leaving him visibly shaken.
Maverick patted Wolfgang's shoulder, signaling him to keep moving. "I'm counting on you," he said softly, leaning slightly for support.
Griffin rolled his eyes, clearly exasperated by the weight of the unconscious Russell on his back. "Not even a twitch," he muttered, adjusting Russell's body with a small jump to redistribute the weight.
They continued forward, but as they neared the heart of the main street, Griffin suddenly stiffened. His instincts flared, and he stopped in his tracks. Maverick noticed immediately and exchanged a glance with him.
In a low tone, Griffin said, "We're being watched. And we're outnumbered."
