Chapter 2 - The Winter Soldier's Sobriety

Kaz quickly began attaching the arm, praying to the gods above Bucky did not have any built in failsafes, or at least, really strong ones. He knew his code was advanced enough to break through most things without alarm.

He finished the installation, and then on his watch, he pressed a button, sending out a signal bouncing about the room.

After a while, Bucky, who was originally expressionless, began to have a richer expression on his face, showing a look of struggle and pain.

"Who I am?"

"I'm the Winter Soldier. No! I'm James... James Barnes!"

Kaz, watched with an excited expression on his face. The chip he had implanted contained all the information on Bucky he knew, with a bunch of code, all interfering with the brainwashing of Bucky and jogging his memories of before the brainwashing.

It was only temporary, the moment it was turned off, he would revert to the stone cold Winter Soldier. For reasons unknown to Kaz, this Marvel universe used a slightly different method of keeping Bucky under HYDRA's control. Using a mix of brainwashing and brain implants. Meaning, Kaz would have to remove the brain implants within his brain to get him to permanently revert to normal.

Kaz slapped Bucky's face twice.

"Keke... You in there?" he smiles chuckling creepily, his eyes parting slightly. A manner of speech he had picked up from the original Kaz.

"Hey man. Wake up!"

But Bucky was still in a daze, not responding much to external stimuli.

Clap

Clap

There are two crisp slaps.

"Hey James 'Bucky' Barnes, wake up!"

"Remember Steve Rogers? He died with the Red Skull."

Kaz suddenly said, finally last sentence had an effect, Bucky shivered all over, and his eyes regained a little clarity.

"Steve... Steve is dead?!"

"No... who are you? Where am I now?"

"All the answers are hidden in your chaotic memory. Your sobriety is time-limited. I'll give you a minute to sort out your thoughts."

After he finished speaking, Kaz focused on the screen again. On the screen was a monitoring software written by himself, meant to detect and receive the radio signals outputted by Sinthea's device, meant to manually control Bucky if anything went wrong.

If only this universe wasn't different. I could of freed Bucky right now and escaped.

Kaz thought, slightly annoyed.

A minute later, Kaz sat in front of Bucky, who had been thinking deeply.

Bucky didn't attack Kaz immediately, proving that Bucky had his own calculations in mind.

"Very good, Bucky. It looks like you're fully awake. Time is precious, I'll keep it short."

"You have been brainwashed by HYDRA, and are currently in the base, working as their no. 1 soldier. I have managed to intercept the brainwashing, freeing you temporarily. I need you to follow my orders unconditionally if we are to escape." Kaz quickly explained, his eyes sharp and serious.

"When it's all done and we are out of here, I will completely remove the brainwashing, and let you go"

"Why should I believe you? You're an agent of HYDRA."

"This is your only choice. I may be a part of HYDRA, but I want to escape this hellhole, and I know you do not want to be brainwashed."

"Keke, maybe you enjoy Sinthea's rough embrace every night? Could it be that you fell in love with this life?"

Bucky's emotions suddenly became agitated for a moment, and then he quickly returned to his expressionless face.

After thinking for a long time, Bucky said in a deep voice:

"I can choose to trust you, but only if you tell me your plans. I need to know what I need to do for you."

"You have no room for bargaining. Time is running out, you should continue to be muddleheaded for now, and let's talk about it next time I wake you up."

After speaking, Kaz pressed the button in his hand, and the interference signal stopped abruptly.

Kaz went through all the procedures as usual, then let Bucky go, and Kaz returned to his laboratory.

At this time, Kaz heaved a sigh of relief.

One happy thing after another, Kaz couldn't sleep with excitement, turned around and vented his energy on the workbench in the laboratory.

As Kaz wrote and drew on the papers, a mock up for his most sophisticated creation yet took place.

~~~
The next day, in the morning, in the conference room.
The regular meeting in the morning has ended, and most of the participants have already left, busy with their own affairs.
There were only four people left in the huge conference room, which seemed a bit empty.
Sinthea sat on the main seat, behind her was the emblem of the Hydra organization with a skull and 6 tentacles. Against the ominous backdrop Sinthea was quite majestic.
Kaz sat there, purposely taking obvious glances at Sinthea, his snake like eyes opening. Keeping up the act of being enamored with the crazy lady. All knew Kaz rarely opened his eyes for anything but getting a better look at Sinthea.
Kaz sat in the second row to Sienna's right, opposite of Kaz was Dr. Zola, who is standing at the conference table because his robotic body does not allow him to perform the sit motion.
"Miss Sinthea, why did you keep me here? You know, I have a lot to be responsible for today."
Although Dr. Zola was afraid of the HYDRA, he was a lot tougher in the face of Sinthea.
Maybe because he was technically immortal. HYDRA could do virtually nothing to him even if he spat on the face of Sinthea and slapped her across the face twice,
"I have no intention of wasting your time, Dr. Zola. It's just that something is wrong with the Winter Soldier, and you're the only expert on that."
Sinthea was also used to Zola's attitude and said the business directly.
"The Winter Soldier, what's wrong with him?"
Dr. Zola looked at Bucky who was standing beside Sienna and said:
"Is his penis broken? I can't fix that."
Dr. Zola said, a rare joke coming from the near emotionless old man. He had only made jokes at the expense of Sinthea.
Listening to Dr. Zola's ridicule, Sinthea not only was not ashamed, but licked her lips and said seductively:
"That is not a problem. He is in fine working order there."
Ugh... what is wrong with this woman...
Kaz thought internally, but externally, he showed a look of jealousy.
I cannot wait for the day her expression crumbles after I betray her.
"This morning, I found some unusual messages on the Winter Soldier's control terminal, as if the control chip in his brain was disturbed by an inexplicable signal."
Hearing Sinthea say that something really happened to the Winter Soldier, Dr. Zola also became serious, his synthetic voice became low, and the expression on the monitor changed to a serious face.
Taking over the control terminal in Sinthea's hand, Dr. Zola carefully watched the historical records.
At this time, Kaz, who was sitting behind Dr. Zola, heard that Siena had discovered the abnormality of the Winter Soldier last night, and his heart began to beat faster involuntarily.
He had remembered to remove the malware chip he implanted, and wiped the memories of his and Bucky's conversation, uploading them to the chip for a later date, but there was nothing he could of done to stop the logging of changes in his Bucky's brain worked.
He lacked the internal information on how the control terminal worked for him to replicate what it needed to pass through close examination.
Dr. Zola carefully checked the control terminal, and even used the detection unit that came with the robot to detect the historical signal, and then threw the control terminal to Sinthea in a bad mood.
"It's not a big deal. The Winter Soldier's self-consciousness is resisting. This is something that was expected, but his resistance was earlier than expected."
"The Winter Soldier still has self-awareness? Isn't he already under chip control and brainwashing?"
"Hmph, technology is not perfect, nothing technological can permanently control a mind. It is too advanced, especially since the technology in question is from the 40's. Still a wonder it has held up well enough we have not needed to replace it."
That last bit of information surprised Kaz.
Had they really not thought to upgrade the brain implant?
"So don't try to keep the Winter Soldier under control forever with a single chip and flimsy brainwashing."
"Then Doctor, according to you, the Winter Soldier will become more uncontrollable in the future?"
"How do you think this problem should be avoided?"
"Brainwashing, freezing, waking the Winter Soldier only when he's on a mission, just like the plan I made when the Winter Soldier was first built."
Dr. Zola said, very clearly telling Sinthea to stop her night "wrestling" with the super solider.
"I've always insisted that's the proper way to contain the Winter Soldier. But you insist on going your own way."
"Hahahaha~"
Her laugh wrang through the room. Clearly not taking his advice seriously.
Such a stupid woman.
Both Dr. Zola and Kaz had the same thought.
She was never this careless in the original Marvel universe. What kind of sex is Bucky giving her for it to cloud her judgement like this.
Kaz couldn't help but openly shake his head.
"Forget it, I won't advise you. But remember, the sooner the containment plan is implemented, the better."
"No, just another day. After the regular meeting tomorrow morning, the Winter Soldier is yours. For now, he's mine."
Sinthea smiled again and led Bucky out of the conference room.
"What an impudent brat. Let's go." Dr. Zola said, leaving the room with Kaz following soon after.
If Sinthea had heard him say such words, his current mechanical body would of been thrown into an industrial grade scrap disposer. Not like that would of done anything. Dr. Zola has many backup consciousnesses around the globe after all.
