Chapter 28 - 22nd: Dungeon Coin Conversion

"GOOD DAY, mister. This is table thirty-six information admin, Vanna. Are you going to take a task?"

Wren didn't answer immediately and only stared back at the female admin before him. Fortunately, the information desk in this section has an invisible boundary for each table in order to make the task a lot more private.

It was to prevent the information about the task from being known to other hunters who actually didn't take the task itself. As well as to prevent the spread of the taskmaster's personal information.

There had been those cases before, and usually, the guest who put that task had taken a big repercussion from the spread of personal information, and obviously, the blame can only be put on the tower admin who gave the task.

The most popular incident that was the trigger of this boundary was none other than the incident just two years ago. It was a case in which a certain hunter got tempted by the prize money that a taskmaster had provided while he was lining up to get his own chosen task approved that he only heard from the table next to them.

It was because one of the said hunter's skills is enhanced hearing that even if the admin on the next table only said the information about the task in a low voice, the other still heard it.

Unfortunately, because that was a specialized task prepared by the taskmaster, he couldn't get the most important key to complete that special task, which was already in the hands of the hunter who took it. This certain hunter decided to ruin the whole task itself so no one could complete it if it was not him.

That's how he used the information about the taskmaster's personal data to share it in the intranet—a more advanced network that is not only used by humans on Earth but by the whole universe.

Let's just say the details that the hunter spread are not a simple one but it was too personal that the taskmaster's shame and dignity were at stake. So imagine the result for the taskmaster when this 'personal information' of his was spread not only to all the humans out there but to the whole universe—let's leave it out there for the said tasker himself.

That incident was really big because the dungeon tower almost lost its credibility with only that one certain mistake. Fortunately, the hunter association was able to locate the hunter who spread the taskmaster's information.

As repercussions of the hunter's crime, the association not only withdrew the other's hunter registration, which made him a lone awaken but also asked the other to pay a sum for the taskmaster and the tower administration.

It was honestly too light for Wren. If it was his own shame who was put into the eyes of all humans and aliens, Wren would seek blood as payment. The taskmaster was still too kind; Wren could only shake his head for his sake.

"Before I take the task, can I ask you some questions first?" was his answer instead.

When he came to this side of the tower, he didn't look at the area where he could choose certain tasks but Wren directly came into one of the admin tables. After all, he has to complete the first task of his chain task before he can take one from the dungeon tower.

"Sure, Mister. As long as the question is within our administration, then I'll be honored, Mister."

Wren wanted to first correct the lady admin for calling him 'Mister' but he held back. He hasn't even shown the other his personal information, such as his name so he can only understand.

"Can I ask for the money conversion here in the dungeon?" he directly asked.

Obviously, the lady admin was taken aback by his random question. And it can't be blamed on her because that was already a well-known fact by all the hunters, whether newbies or not. And even those who dream of being one, as long as they studied about it by themselves or in an institute, can learn it.

As for the original, he also knew it but only the basics. Wren knew that what the system must be asking is more than that. Albeit, what he might get in the admin wouldn't be that much from what the original had studied.

But since it was the system's task, he could only do so. Maybe the system required him to know it by himself instead of relying on the knowledge acquired by the original.

"Can I see your profile status, Mister?" The lady admin suddenly asked.

Wren gladly showed his pride—his SPIA ear stud. Then, with a tap, his profile status was presented before the lady admin.

Disappointed but not disheartened, Wren ignored how the lady admin once again turned a blind eye to his cool SPIA. Whatever others may say or think, for Wren, his choice goes to the aesthetic sense that only he can appreciate.

Vanna, the lady admin who was unaware of how she was branded as a person without aesthetic sense, only took a glance at the opened screen before smiling back at Wren.

"Mr. Adams, I will be answering your question now. It has been two years since the money conversion between dollars and dungeon coins has been upgraded. Before, it was a one-is-to-one conversion—one tower coin is equivalent to one dollar. And two years ago, the interstellar committee announced that dungeon coins would become the universal coins and so, when it was announced on our planet, the local government decided to increase the money conversion."

"It became a 100:1 ratio in which one hundred dollars will be the equivalent conversion for a single dungeon coin. For example, if you earn one hundred dungeon coins for taking a certain task, if you convert it into dollars—which is the only physical money our planet released—you will count one hundred to one hundred times, which will be ten thousand dollars."

Wren finally knows the reason why the system still released this task to him despite the knowledge the original had provided. The original had learned about this money conversion before he reached the legal age of where one has to see if they will awaken a system or not. And that was more than four years ago.

While this updated money conversion was announced two years ago, the original was slowly losing hope about awakening a system. So it was really just to get this information as a system task.

There's still no system prompt coming after hearing that. Which means the information that he gathered was still not enough. That only implies that he still needs to find more. To do that, he might as well act like he's ignorant about it.

"Tell me more about it."

This confused the lady admin; she could only ask to confirm. "Looking at your profile, Mr. Adams, you're a newly registered hunter, right?"

Wren nodded his head. He couldn't lie about it when his profile status was still visible before the lady admin.

"Then allow me to use your own as an example. Can you show me your system history, Mr. Adams?"

That made him stupefy. "System history? Is there actually a feature like that? How can I open that?"

Vanna kindly nodded with a smile. "Yes, Mr. Adams. All systems had this feature set up. From the name itself, it will show the history of all the monsters that the hunter had killed. Each killed monster will also indicate the personal data of the monster, such as on what level in the dungeon they were killed, their class and type, a little information about that monster, as well as the dungeon points that were the reward for killing one."

"Dungeon points were the number of data that was written on the right side of the hunter's name on the status profile. And these dungeon points were more popular than dungeon coins. That's why dungeon coins can only be converted into dollars to be commonly used; although they can be transferred, not all can acquire SPIA, which helps in showing this amount to others. Without SPIA, you can't acquire dungeon coins at all. Looking at your own profile, these set of numbers were all the dungeon coins you had acquired for the past week, Mr. Adams."

That news was a total shock for Wren. There is much new information he heard from the lady admin that Wren had totally ignored before. He didn't know that it was actually important data.

Just like those experience points he got from completing tasks, quests, and missions, as well as those XPs he received for every kill he did inside the dungeon.

He knows about how he can acquire experience points and as for its use, the only thing he knows is how it can be used in buying summons from the [God System Online Store].

Wait, that's it! So XPs actually mean dungeon coins that he can't only use in the [God System Online Store] but also in his daily expenses! Why didn't he realize that sooner?!

Another one was how his dungeon coins were actually always on display with other people's eyes every time he opened his profile status through his SPIA. They were actually the first ones who saw his dungeon coin savings!

He always shows his profile status to other people but thinking that he already knows what was displayed on it, he never looks at it himself instead, he was trying to watch the reactions of other people towards his super cool and aesthetic SPIA.

After all, he knows more than what his profile status shows to other people. Aside from his attributes and some personal information, such as his name, class, and system ID, he knows more than that.

He looked at his personal profile and directly moved his eyes to the upper-right corner of the screen. He silently counted the digits that reached five digits. He actually reached five digits only within one week.

How regretting! The last time he looked into his profile status was when he first had his SPIA from the Hunter Association headquarters. And at that time, he still hadn't earned—wait, he did!

He remembered his first task. If he remembered it correctly, he received one hundred XPs at that time. But why wasn't it displayed at that time?

To answer his own question, Wren guesses that first, it was an XP received from completing a task from the system, which also supports his other guess that those experience points were only received before the connection of his SPIA to his system. And it only shows after his first kill wearing his SPIA.

Whether these assumptions were true or not, Wren can only ignore it as he listens more to the discussion of the lady admin. He even forgot about the reason for doing this, as he really enjoys listening.

"I will be cutting my lesson with that, Mr. Adams. If you want to learn more, you can enroll in a hunting school, which will broaden your knowledge more. If you find it too burdensome, there are also online courses available on the intranet."

"I'll take that in mind. As for now, I'm more focused on earning more money. So please help me take on some tasks and missions that can earn me more. I don't need other special rewards, as I prefer dungeon coins to that," Wren said instead, throwing the suggestion of the lady admin back to his head.

"I understand, Mr. Adams. I can suggest a list of tasks and missions with a big pay but also goes around Mr. Adams' capacity. Does Mr. Adams want to hear it?"

"Yes, please."

"Then please look at these lists, Mr. Adams. Feel free to click on each to see the task introductions. Once you have chosen some, please tell me the task or mission ID."
