Chapter 5 - Another New Task

Analise awakened the following morning to the aromatic scents of pancakes and sausage permeating the air. Upon noticing that Michael had already taken Lilly from her crib, she proceeded downstairs after refreshing herself. As she descended, she observed Michael instructing Casey in the culinary arts, which brought a smile to her face, appreciating the sight of Michael and Casey developing a bond and witnessing Michael embracing his paternal responsibilities towards Casey. At the dining table, Analise noticed Mark feeding Lilly her milk. The sight of Lilly's tiny baby hands grasping Mark's large hand as he held the bottle to her mouth elicited a warm smile from Analise. Meanwhile, Lucas, Rufus, Cujo, Max, Shep, and Norman were already consuming their breakfast, consisting of a mixture of wet dog food and granola. Analise took a seat, and Casey promptly placed a plate of food before her. Subsequently, he served plates of food to Mark, Rusty, and Mick, before placing his and Michael's plates on the table. Michael then set the glasses on the table and poured apple juice into each one. Analise took Lilly from Mark, and as they commenced their meal, Casey inquired, "Mama, can we have a cat?" Analise glanced at Michael, who nodded in agreement, and she responded, "Certainly, would you prefer a cat from the real world or the fictional world?" Casey replied, "Fictional." Analise then suggested, "Very well, why don't you watch some cat horror movies and decide which cat you favor the most, then we can consult Countess Mary to bring it to life." After breakfast, Analise turned on the news. A report detailed the murders of three women, perpetrated by Analise, Michael, and Cujo, as well as the killings of three college students by Mark, Rusty, and Mick. Notably, none of the murders committed by Analise and Michael since their relocation to Brookfield, Wisconsin, had been linked. Determined to undertake another of her mother's tasks, Analise followed the map to the second hidden task, which was concealed under a floorboard in the downstairs hall closet. Upon unfolding the piece of paper, she found the name of the man who had run over her mother's childhood Border Collie, Doogie, which resulted in the dog's death. The man's name was Nick Collier, and the note indicated, "He was 19 at the time he killed Doogie, and despite his apology, I remained furious for losing my constant companion. I want him to be torn apart by dogs." Given Doogie's herding background, Analise decided to enlist Rufus and Shep, recognizing that German Shepherds are also herding dogs, to execute this task. After locating Nick's address, she resolved to address the matter that night.

That evening, Analise and Michael Myers proceeded towards Nick Collier's residence, located in Madison, Wisconsin, with Lucas and Shep seated in the backseat. Upon arriving at the driveway, Analise observed that the houses were situated miles apart, ensuring that no one would hear Nick's screams. Analise habitually dimmed the headlights sufficiently to avoid detection by her targets, while still maintaining enough illumination for her own visibility. Analise knocked on the door, and when Nick answered, Michael Myers swiftly apprehended him, rendering him unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, Nick found himself facing Analise and Michael Myers, with Lucas and Shep positioned beside Analise. In a state of confusion, Nick inquired, "Who are you?" Analise responded, "You might recognize my mother, Lilly Bates. You killed her dog when you were nineteen, back in 1979. Now you are sixty-four and you will not be able to outrun my dogs, Lucas and Shep. If I were you, I would start running." As Nick bolted towards the road, Lucas and Shep quickly overtook him and began to maul him. Analise and Michael Myers remained seated on the porch as Lucas and Shep relentlessly tore Nick apart. Eventually, Nick lay in pieces. As they prepared to depart, a calico cat emerged from the doggy door, meowing softly. Analise picked up the cat and remarked, "Well, at least the cat Casey will choose will have a companion." After Lucas and Shep settled in the backseat, Michael drove while Analise sat in the passenger seat with the cat. Upon checking its gender and discovering it was female, she decided to name her Ana, after her grandmother. Upon arriving home, they found Mark, Rusty, Mick, and Casey lounging on the couch, watching Scooby-Doo, with Rusty holding Lilly. Upon seeing the cat, Casey exclaimed, "Aww, it's so cute! Is it a companion for the cat I'm going to choose?" Analise replied, "Yes, her name is Ana, after my grandmother." Analise placed a frozen pizza in the oven and prepared a meal for Lucas, Rufus, Cujo, Max, Shep, and Norman, mixing dry dog food with canned carrots. She also fed Ana some canned chicken, making a mental note to purchase cat food, litter, a litter box, and a litter scoop. While the pizza was baking, she sliced cucumber and tomatoes to accompany the meal. After feeding Lilly her milk, Analise joined the others for dinner. Following dinner, they loaded the dishwasher and retreated upstairs for the night. While Michael placed Lilly in her crib, Analise ensured that Casey was settled in bed. Casey mentioned, "While you and Michael were out, I watched some cat horror movie clips with Mark, Rusty, and Mick, and I decided that I want the cat named Church from the movie Pet Sematary." Analise responded, "Okay, we can visit Countess Mary tomorrow and request that she bring him to life." She then kissed Casey on the forehead, and Shep lay on the floor next to Casey's bed. Analise kissed Lilly goodnight and shared a kiss with Michael Myers before cuddling and drifting off to sleep. Lucas, Rufus, Cujo, Max and Norman slept in the hallway, while the cat Ana nestled next to Mark's bed.
