Chapter 37 - Chapter 36 - Gali, Gwen, and Xu Mo in New York

As Green Goblin, the infamous villain responsible for the carnival terror, hovered over the bridge on his glider, his maniacal laughter echoed through the night. From his elevated perch, he launched a miniature missile at the traffic below, creating a brilliant explosion that illuminated the night sky with fiery waves and deafening sounds. Cars on the bridge crashed into each other in a chaotic frenzy, blocking the roadway and leaving a trail of panic.

Pedestrians scrambled in fear, and the police, arriving at the scene, had no choice but to abandon their vehicles and run on foot.

Standing not far from the commotion, Gwen was visibly distressed. "What do we do? The police are too late," she exclaimed.

Xu Mo, trying to reassure her, responded, "This is New York. I'm sure someone will show up soon."

As if on cue, a red figure swung into action, using spider silk to traverse the skyline. "Oh, it's Spider-Man!" Green Goblin shouted with a mix of excitement and malice, clutching Mary Jane in one hand and the rope of the school bus in the other. He taunted Spider-Man, offering a cruel choice: save his beloved or the innocent children.

"No, you can't do this!" Spider-Man pleaded, desperate to save both.

Green Goblin, unyielding, let go of the rope and Mary Jane fell, alongside the school bus, both plummeting towards the river below.

Gwen shut her eyes, bracing for the worst. Cries of horror filled the air, but Spider-Man swiftly flew to Mary Jane's side, catching her, while his spider silk rescued the school bus from falling into the river. Spider-Man's actions drew Green Goblin's ire, making him a prime target for the villain's assault.

Gunfire erupted as the police finally managed to intercept Green Goblin's glider, allowing Spider-Man to escape. A nearby freighter caught the school bus, ensuring the children inside were safe. Meanwhile, Spider-Man continued to battle Green Goblin, moving away from the bridge and into the residential area.

Director George, Gwen's father, arrived at the scene, horrified to see his daughter involved. Noticing Xu Mo, who had been present during the carnival incident, George was displeased, particularly seeing him holding Gwen's hand.

"Boy, every time I see you, Gwen always seems to be in trouble," George grumbled.

Gwen, embarrassed, interjected, "Dad, why do you always say that?"

Xu Mo, feeling slightly awkward but determined, replied, "Director George, this just means that Gwen and I have a relationship."

George, though initially stern, recognized Xu Mo's calm demeanor amidst the chaos. He understood that Xu Mo was not just another face in the crowd but someone with notable composure and strength.

With the situation escalating, George had to leave for his duties, acknowledging the inadequacy of the police in handling such supercriminals.

As Xu Mo and Gwen prepared to continue their evening, Gali, who had been with them, was missing.

"Gwen, where's Gali?" Xu Mo asked, noticing her absence.

Gwen, worried, called out for Gali. Xu Mo, while concerned for Gali's safety, knew she was capable and likely caught up in something.

Meanwhile, Gali had found herself mesmerized by an exquisite cake in a shop window. Not having any money, she noticed a few youths in an alley and approached them. She soon returned with the cake in hand, seemingly oblivious to the ongoing chaos.

As she enjoyed her treat, Gali noticed Spider-Man in midair and, to her astonishment, a loli with purple hair swinging silver silk, seemingly following Green Goblin. Recognizing the character from her favorite comic series, Gali was intrigued and puzzled, wondering if it was a cosplay or the real deal.

Her curiosity piqued, Gali decided to follow the purple-haired loli, drawn by the tools and gadgets reminiscent of those from Xu Mo's comics. The allure of the familiar yet extraordinary was too strong for Gali to ignore.

As the night continued, the streets of New York were alive with action, and the connections between the characters, both familiar and new, were only beginning to unfold.
