Chapter 2 - Hot Room (2)

The blue haired girl then put her hands on Su Lie and Lin Chen's cheeks, in an instant cold rushed into their bodies overpowering the heat. Soon enough the cold was the only thing that was bothering them, the heat was an eternity away from them.

"Too... c..cold." Su Lie muttered.

"Oops sorry, I got carried away." She apologized and removed her hands from their cheeks and placed it on their hands.

"My attribute is ice so if I don't manipulate the energy properly I'll just end freezing you guys."

"Ah, my attribute is darkness." Lin Chen boasted.

"Darkness is the rarest attribute next to light, so you're as good as dead meat if you fight someone with the light attribute."

"Nope, I will bring pride to this town so I cannot allow myself to lose to a petty light attribute cultivator."

"What's your attribute?" She asked Su Lie.

"Lightning and fire." He said.

She thought about it for a second.

"It's actually a disadvantage to have those two attributes, having just lightning is okay but if you have two you would have to spend equal time mastering them whereas someone who only has lightning will be able to do what you do." She stated blantly.

"Ah."

Su Lie felt like he was getting mocked, it wasn't his fault that he got two attributes. Normally, someone who had two attributes was the pride in most towns but he was an exception considering the remarks he got from the two people he had told.

"But still, it could actually be good in a fight. Considering you could trick your enemy into preparing for lightning attacks before attacking with fire. But still it's how you use it that counts."

He felt like he was getting lectured by a girl the same age none the less, but still it was what he learnt that counted. She was giving him insights on how to effectively and only a cultivator would allow his pride keep him from learning.

"But, if you have the fire attribute why were you complaining that it was too cold, isn't your body supposed to have an inbuilt heat system?" She questioned.

"Well, it's just that I don't actually want to use it. I'd rather have someone guide me so I don't damage my dantian by doing something wrong."

She laughed out loud, why was this boy so fun to mess with.

"You think that drawing power from your dantian will damage it? It will actually strengthen it earlier for you. It will be a little bit easier to cultivate if you understand the element you're cultivating in than just doing what the manual tells you." She smiled.

"Hmm," Su Lie hummed to himself. "How come we were never thought this at school?" He questioned.

"Why would they teach you at school? It would be disadvantageous for them if you already knew what you were doing without advice or help or instructions, so if you want knowledge you buy it. Unless you are not a cultivator knowledge is expensive and most people can't afford it."

"For example, everybody was given a basic beginner's cultivation manual once they became a cultivator and buying a cultivation manual would be very expensive. So expensive that they would be forced to join the town's guild to get a mid-grade cultivation manual for their element.

Compare that to someone who bought a cultivation manual before he/she became a cultivator for hall the price once they became a cultivator."

"Once you leave the mortal realm hundreds of years are a decade to you so time is irrelevant. In that notion what you purchase earlier in life will be less stressful for you in the future." She explained.

Li Chen looked as if he was processing the information he was getting while Su Lie was confused.

'Why would someone who knows about what will happen hint at it? Is she going against the law? Or does she have a wealthy family backing her?'

Su Lei scratched the second option as it was unlikely, a noble would have given their children a higher grade awakening stone and expensive elixirs for a high talent.

The elders forbid everyone who knew what was going to happen in the next month from telling anyone else as they would be executed should someone outside know what was going to happen.

He himself had not told Li Chen about the impending casualties this town would suffer but he was going to do his best so as to make sure his brother would survive.

"If I may ask can I ask where you got this information?" Li Chen asked.

"My parents bought books for me."

"Ahh." He nodded.

That explains everything.

"Why don't you try manifesting your fire energy now so I can cut back." She said.

Su Lie nodded, he felt that this was going to do was very important, so he would do his best to make sure he didn't screw up.

...

In a large but crowded room, there were 60 people talking. Over 50+ people were sweating profusely, however some people still managed to stay cool, they had their water attributes to help them.

But the most notable person sat at the edge of the room, one of them had deep red hair and a striking face he was a boy and was one of the people with the fire attribute.

The puzzling thing was that he had no talisman on him, yet he was not sweating. Infact, his temperature was at 5 degrees, he had just awakened but had gotten a grasp on his fire attribute allowing him to lower his temperature.

The fire attribute was not about heat but rather it was about the heat it emitted, there's a difference. The fire attribute could be used to freeze someone but that required mastery at the peak of the mortal realm, the fact that this young boy had already began to grasp cooling down his temperature showed his immense talent.

"Hah, I did it." Su Lie exclaimed.

In his hand was a small flame, it turned out that manifesting your element for the first time was hard.

"Great, next you'll coat your body in fire energy, that is very important."

"Ehh, there's more. No thanks, I think... it might disrupt your element."

She snorted.

"Like your weak spark of fire would be able to do anything to my water element." She said proudly.

"Brother Lie, I want to try to manifest my darkness."

"Okay, good luck!"

"What? Aren't you supposed to guide me since you have a bit of experience in it?!"

"You're kidding, you'll do great." Su Lie laughed.

After a moment Li Chen nodded and then sat in the lotus position and began.

A few minutes of silence passed over, then Su Lie remembered something important.

"You never told us your name." Su Lie said suddenly.

"Huh, you're looking for my name. It's Jiang Mei." She said, "So what's your name?"

"It's Su Lie, this kid over here is Li Chen."

She smiled and then continued.

"I-"

"Silence!" A voice cut him off.

The 60 people kept quiet as they knew who it was, one of the elders.

He was dressed in a gold colored robe, his bald head glimmered in the light that followed him. His eyes were closed but everyone could tell that he could see, one of the perks of having a high cultivation level.

His face had been hammered with age and battles, he seemed like a handsome guy if it was a hundred years ago but now he had scars on his face.

Then surprisingly he opened his eyes and they revealed white plain eyes, he was blind! He walked majestically to the center of the room, and eyed each and every one of them.

The room was actually not the best as it stunk so bad, his Qi spread out throughout his whole body and the smell in the air was not anywhere near him. One of the most mediocre things to use as a cultivator.

Everyone in the room suddenly bowed, they had to pay respects to this man who was one of the elder.

He snorted as they got up. He probably thought that dead people were paying their respect to him and that was disgraceful.

He was someone who had the highest cultivation in this run-down town, and the only ones who paid respects to him were walking corpses. He knew most of them were going to die and only a few would survive. But as someone who had survived battles of life and death their lives were not important.

As someone who had survived countless battles he referred to this one as... evolution.

"Raise your heads."
