Chereads / Redemption Of Hades / Chapter 9 - Capturing Alecto

Chapter 9 - Capturing Alecto

The city was on the brink of destruction. The sky churned with blackened clouds, and lightning struck the earth with deafening force, each bolt sending shockwaves through the ground.

Edward was now riding his chariot pulled by four colossal, black horses with eyes that burned like embers. His eyes glowed with a cold, blue fire.

Sensing Edward's presence, Alecto turned her gaze skyward, her eyes blazing with fury as Hades descended from his chariot. "You dare intervene, Hades?" she spat. Her voice was like a venomous hiss.

Edward stepped forward, his expression as cold and unyielding as the frozen rivers of the Underworld. "You've allowed your anger to consume you, Alecto," he intoned. "You've turned your back on your purpose."

With a roar, Alecto lunged at Edward, her talons outstretched and eyes aflame with wrath. The force of her attack sent shockwaves through the air, but Edward was ready.

With a flick of his wrist, his obsidian blade appeared in his hand, the weapon forged in the fires of the deepest pits of the Underworld. He met Alecto's attack head-on, the clash of their powers sending a shockwave that rippled through the city, leveling what few structures still stood.

Their battle was fierce and unrelenting. Alecto was a whirlwind of fury, her talons were striking with blinding speed, but Edward's movements were precise and unyielding. Each strike of his blade sent sparks flying. The air around them crackled with energy.

As the battle raged, the ground beneath them began to split, a massive chasm opening up as the earth struggled to contain their power. Fires erupted from the cracks, and the air grew thick with ash and smoke. Edward, saw the destruction spreading and knew he had to end this quickly.

With a surge of power, Hades unleashed a wave of darkness that engulfed Alecto, momentarily disorienting her. Seizing the opportunity, he struck with his blade, aiming for her core. But Alecto was relentless; she roared in defiance, shattering the darkness with a burst of crimson energy, her fury only growing stronger.

"You will not defeat me, Hades!" she screamed, her voice echoing with a thousand vengeful souls. "I will tear you apart, and then I will tear this city apart, stone by stone!"

Before Hades could respond, two more figures appeared, their forms wreathed in shadow. Tisiphone and Megaera, the other Erinyes, arrived, their faces grim as they took in the devastation.

"Sister, enough!" Tisiphone shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos. "This is not the way!"

But Alecto was beyond reason. "Stay out of this!" she roared, her power flaring. "They must be punished! All of them!"

Megaera exchanged a look with Tisiphone before nodding. "Then we will do what we must." Trisphone and Magaera joined Edward to strike at Alecto.

The air crackled with tension as the two Erinyes, Tisiphone and Megaera, stepped forward, their forms dark and imposing against the backdrop of destruction.

They joined Edward, creating a formidable triad against their raging sister. Alecto's fury was a force of nature, her power feeding off the chaos around her, but now she was outnumbered.

Edward's eyes met Tisiphone's for a brief moment. She gave a curt nod. There was no room for hesitation, not when the fate of the city and perhaps the world hung in the balance.

Alecto, unimpressed by the presence of her sisters, raised her arms high, and the sky responded to her call. Thunder roared, and lightning forked down from the heavens, striking the earth with explosive force. The city below was a sea of flame and rubble, but Edward and the Erinyes stood firm.

"Sisters, you betray me?" Alecto's voice was a guttural growl, the sound reverberating through the city as if it were the earth itself speaking.

"This isn't betrayal," Tisiphone disagreed, her voice unwavering. "It is salvation for you and for this world. You've lost sight of your purpose, Alecto."

Megaera added, her tone sorrowful yet determined, "We punish the guilty, but you've let your wrath consume you. This isn't justice. It's madness."

Alecto's eyes blazed with fury, her power crackling in the air around her. "Madness? No, sisters, this is what we were meant to do! We were born from vengeance! We are vengeance!"

With a shriek, she unleashed a torrent of crimson energy, aiming it directly at her sisters and Edward. The force of her attack was overwhelming, but the three stood their ground, pooling their powers in a united front.

Edward summoned the shadows of the Underworld, his hands weaving the darkness into a protective barrier. Tisiphone and Megaera channeled their own energy, their forms glowing with an ethereal light that contrasted sharply with Alecto's crimson fury.

The clash of energies was cataclysmic. The sky darkened further, as if night itself had fallen, and the ground trembled violently beneath them. The air was thick with ash, making it difficult to breathe, but Edward's resolve was unwavering.

"We must contain her!" Megaera shouted over the roar of the battle. "She's too far gone!" Tisiphone nodded, her expression grim. "Agreed. But we must do it together."

The three of them moved as one. Edward advanced, his obsidian blade slicing through the air, aiming for Alecto's heart. Tisiphone and Megaera flanked her, their hands glowing with the combined power of the Erinyes.

Alecto fought with the strength of a being possessed, her talons tearing through the shadows and light that sought to contain her. But Edward was relentless, his movements precise and deadly. He feinted to the left, drawing her attention, and in that split second, Tisiphone and Megaera struck.

A brilliant flash of light erupted from their hands, coiling around Alecto like chains forged from pure energy. She screamed in defiance, her power lashing out in all directions, but the bonds held firm.

"Now, Hades!" Tisiphone cried out.

Edward's blade found its mark. With a swift, decisive strike, he plunged the obsidian weapon into Alecto's core. Her scream echoed across the city, a sound of pure, unbridled anguish that shook the very foundations of the earth. The crimson energy around her flared one last time before dissipating, leaving only the glowing chains that bound her.

Alecto's form slumped, her eyes losing their fiery glow. She looked at her sisters, and for a moment, the rage was gone, replaced by something almost human and regretful.

"You...were right," she whispered, her voice weak, barely audible over the crackling fires and distant thunder. "I lost my way..."

Tisiphone and Megaera approached her, their expressions softening with sorrow. "Rest now, sister," Megaera said gently. "We will take it from here."

Edward withdrew his blade, and the chains tightened around Alecto, drawing her down into the earth, where the chasm had opened wide. As she disappeared into the depths, the ground began to close, sealing the chaos within.

The sky began to clear, the blackened clouds parting to reveal the stars above. The fires that had raged throughout the city began to die down, leaving only the smoldering remnants of what once was.

Edward stood silently, his gaze fixed on the spot where Alecto had vanished. The battle was over, but the cost was heavy. Tisiphone and Megaera joined him, their faces etched with grief.

"We will rebuild," Tisiphone said, though her voice was tinged with sadness. "And we will remember," Megaera added. "For Alecto, for all that was lost."

Edward nodded, though his thoughts were elsewhere. Persephone, the brief glimpse of hope she had brought him before this storm. He turned his gaze toward the horizon, where the first light of dawn was beginning to break.

"Yes," he murmured, more to himself than to the others. "We will rebuild. And we will endure."

With that, the three of them turned away from the ruins, leaving the city to its dawn of recovery. The winds carried away the last remnants of ash, and the stars above shone down, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there was always a glimmer of hope.

Hades was now reclining in the large obsidian tub, its smooth, dark surface reflecting the flickering light of torches that lined the chamber walls.

The water was warm and scented with a faint trace of pomegranate, enveloping him, soothing his body but not his restless mind.

The chamber was vast, its walls carved from the black stone of the Underworld, adorned with intricate patterns that seemed to shift and change in the dim light. Shadows danced across the ceiling, adding to the eerie yet regal atmosphere of the space.

As Hades leaned back, his thoughts drifted to the image of Persephone in her garden. He had watched her from afar, her movements light and carefree as she danced among the nymphs, her laughter a melody that lingered in the air. Even now, the memory of her brightened the shadows of his mind.

He had learned of Persephone long before, back when he was still Edward, a scholar among mortals. The stories he had read were filled with dread and darkness. Tales of Hades abducting the unwilling Persephone, dragging her into the Underworld to be his queen.

The mortals had spun these tales to explain the seasons, to give voice to their fears of death and the unknown. But Edward, even then, had seen them as more than mere myths. They were warnings, echoes of a truth twisted by time and fear.

Now, as Hades, those warnings resonated with him differently. He was no longer the observer of myths. He was the myth itself.

But he had no desire to repeat the mistakes of the past. The thought of forcing Persephone into his world, of seeing that light in her eyes dim under the weight of his realm, was unbearable.

"I will not be the tyrant they speak of", he vowed silently, the words echoing in his mind like a solemn oath. "Persephone deserves more than that. She deserves a choice."

He closed his eyes, letting the warm water soothe him as he replayed the moment in his mind. He had been hidden in the shadows, watching her from a distance. Her fiery red hair had caught the sunlight making it glow, and her movements had been fluid, almost as if she were one with the earth itself.

There had been a pull, a connection he couldn't explain, something that had drawn him to her like a moth to a flame.

But he had not approached her, not then. He had seen the joy on her face, the way she had moved with such freedom, and he had known that to take her against her will would be to destroy that light within her.

And so, he had retreated, returning to the Underworld with a resolve to do things differently.
