Lila sat on the small wooden stool beside the bed, watching Ye Jin sip the bitter medicine she had prepared. The steam curled into the air, filling the room with a faint herbal scent.
She hadn't expected Ye Jin to be awake when she returned earlier. Apart from exchanging names, they had barely spoken.
Now, Lila found herself staring.
Who is she?
She had never seen this woman in her past life. So why had she risked so much to save her?
Ye Jin drained the cup and set it down with a soft clink. "Thank you," she said, her voice still hoarse from exhaustion.
Lila shifted, her fingers tightening around the hem of her dress. "N-no, I should be the one thanking you," she said shyly. "You saved me."
Ye Jin studied her for a moment, then let out a small hum.
She's cute, she thought.
If things had been different, if this entire mess hadn't happened, maybe she wouldn't have minded being friends.
