Chapter 3 - To be become a Hunter

Karna and Ashwatthama were walking, Ashwatthama looked at Karna.

Ashwatthama just looked at him. So any reason why your names Karna.

Karna just looked at Ashwatthama. Wow isne't the pot calling the kettle black, no office and not being racist either

Ashwatthama raised an eyebrow, a small smirk forming on his lips. "Fair point," he replied, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I guess it's not every day you meet someone with a name straight out of mythology, huh?"

Karna chuckled softly. "Yeah, it's not exactly common. But then again, neither is yours. Ashwatthama, the immortal warrior. Quite a name to live up to."

Ashwatthama shrugged, his expression turning slightly thoughtful. "Names carry a lot of weight, especially when they're tied to legends. My parents were big on history and mythology, hence the name. They said it was a reminder of our heritage and strength."

Karna nodded, understanding the sentiment. "My parents were similar. They believed in the power of names and the stories behind them. Karna, the hero of charity, known for his loyalty and tragic fate. It's a lot to live up to, but it also feels... fitting in some ways."

Ashwatthama glanced at him, curiosity flickering in his golden eyes. "Do you believe in reincarnation? Like, do you think we're somehow connected to the legends we're named after?"

Karna paused, considering the question carefully. The irony wasn't lost on him, considering he was literally the reincarnation of the legendary Karna. But he couldn't reveal that, at least not yet.

"It's an interesting thought," Karna said, choosing his words carefully. "I mean, there's a lot we don't understand about the world and the universe. Who's to say that the spirits of legends and heroes can't find new lives in the modern world?"

Ashwatthama nodded slowly, seemingly deep in thought. "Yeah, maybe. It would explain why some people seem to have this... innate strength or connection to certain things. Like they were born for it."

Karna smiled faintly, thinking about his own experiences and the memories that lingered from his past life. "Maybe it's not about who we were, but who we choose to be. Names and legends can guide us, but in the end, it's our actions that define us."

Ashwatthama looked at him, a more serious expression crossing his face. "You're pretty philosophical for a guy our age. Most people don't think that deeply about this stuff."

Karna shrugged, trying to downplay his own introspection. "I guess I just like to think about the bigger picture. Especially with everything going on in the world—Gates, Hunters, monsters... It makes you wonder about our place in all of it."

Ashwatthama nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I get that. The world changed overnight with those Gates. It's like we're living in a different reality, and we're all just trying to figure out where we fit in."

As they continued walking, a comfortable silence settled between them. Despite their differences, there was a sense of mutual understanding and respect. Both had names that carried weight and histories that were larger than life, but they were also just two teenagers trying to navigate a world full of uncertainties.

Finally, Ashwatthama spoke again, his tone lighter. "Well, whatever our names mean or where we come from, one thing's for sure—we're stuck in this crazy world together. Might as well make the most of it."

Karna smiled, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Ashwatthama. "Agreed. Let's see where this journey takes us."

Ashwatthama then just looked at him. Ok that is enough philsophi for today, thanks for the extertencal crishes

Karna laughed, shaking his head. "Yeah, I guess we got a bit deep there. Sometimes it's good to just let things be."

Ashwatthama smirked, his usual confident demeanor returning. "Exactly. We should be focusing on more important things—like getting through school and figuring out how to become top-tier Hunters."

Karna nodded in agreement, feeling the shift back to a lighter, more casual conversation. "True. We've got enough on our plates without worrying about the meaning of life."

As they continued walking, the atmosphere between them relaxed. Despite the philosophical detour, both felt a sense of understanding and perhaps a growing friendship. They might not have all the answers, but they were both determined to carve their own paths in this new, unpredictable world.

Ashwatthama gave Karna a playful nudge. "So, how about we focus on something more immediate? Like, what are you doing after school? Training, or just chilling?"

Karna smiled, appreciating the change in topic. "A bit of both, I guess. Can't slack off if we want to be Hunters, right?"

Ashwatthama grinned. "Exactly. Let's keep pushing forward and see where we end up."

As they were walking the streets of Delhi, as they hurd something, a roar that sounds like a monster, they saw people running for there lives.

Ashwatthama then looked at Karna. Is that what I think it is.

Karna looked at him. A Gate break

The roar echoed through the streets, sending a chill down their spines. The once bustling streets of Delhi were now filled with panic as people ran in every direction, desperate to escape the impending danger. Karna and Ashwatthama exchanged a serious look, their casual conversation immediately forgotten.

Ashwatthama clenched his fists, his fiery aura flickering to life. "A Gate break... right in the middle of the city. This is bad."

Karna nodded, his expression grave. Gate breaks were rare but extremely dangerous events where the monsters inside a Gate managed to escape into the real world. These incidents often led to chaos and destruction, as regular people were unprepared to face the supernatural threats.

"We need to do something," Karna said, his voice steady despite the urgency of the situation. "We can't just stand by and let these monsters harm innocent people."

Ashwatthama smirked, the thrill of battle evident in his eyes. "You're right. This is our chance to put our training to the test. Let's see what we're really made of."

Without another word, they both took off towards the source of the commotion. As they rounded a corner, they saw the Gate—a swirling, ominous portal hovering above the ground. Emerging from it were several monstrous creatures, each more terrifying than the last. They ranged in size and shape, but all shared an aura of malevolence that set them apart from any normal animal.

Karna quickly assessed the situation. There were a few low-level monsters rampaging, but the real threat was a larger, more imposing creature at the forefront. It had a massive, armored body and sharp claws that could easily tear through concrete.

Ashwatthama's eyes gleamed with excitement as he summoned flames around his fists. "I'll take care of the smaller ones. You handle the big guy."

Karna nodded, summoning his own powers. He felt the familiar warmth of the sun's energy coursing through him, ready to be harnessed. "Be careful," he cautioned, knowing that while they both had abilities, they were still students and not fully trained Hunters.

Ashwatthama grinned. "Always am."

With that, they charged into the fray. Ashwatthama unleashed a torrent of flames, expertly controlling the fire to burn through the lesser monsters. His movements were swift and precise, each punch and kick releasing bursts of heat that incinerated his enemies.

Meanwhile, Karna faced off against the larger creature. He concentrated, focusing the sun's energy into a brilliant spear of light. With a swift motion, he hurled it at the beast. The spear struck true, piercing the creature's armor and causing it to roar in pain.

But the battle was far from over. The monster, enraged by the attack, lunged at Karna with surprising speed. Karna barely managed to dodge, rolling to the side as the creature's claws swiped through the air where he had just stood.

Karna quickly regained his footing, summoning another spear of light. He knew he had to take this thing down fast, or it could cause even more destruction. As he prepared to strike again, he noticed Ashwatthama had finished dealing with the smaller monsters and was now moving to assist him.

The two of them fought in tandem, each supporting the other with their respective abilities. Ashwatthama's flames provided cover and distractions, while Karna's precision strikes targeted the monster's weak points. It was a difficult battle, but together, they managed to wear the creature down.

Finally, with a coordinated effort, Karna unleashed a powerful beam of light while Ashwatthama engulfed the monster in a fiery blaze. The combined attack proved too much for the creature, and it let out a final, agonized roar before collapsing to the ground, defeated.

As the dust settled, Karna and Ashwatthama stood panting, their bodies tense from the exertion. The streets were eerily quiet now, the danger seemingly passed. They exchanged a glance, a mixture of relief and pride in their eyes.

"We did it," Ashwatthama said, a satisfied grin on his face.

Karna nodded, still catching his breath. "Yeah. But we were lucky. If more powerful monsters had come through..."

Ashwatthama's expression sobered. "True. This was just a taste of what's out there. We need to get stronger, become real Hunters."

Karna agreed, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. This encounter had shown them the reality of their world—the dangers and the responsibilities that came with their powers. It was a wake-up call, but also an opportunity. They had potential, and now they had a goal.

As they stood there, amidst the aftermath of the battle, they knew that their journey as Hunters was just beginning. There would be more challenges, more battles, and more mysteries to uncover. But for now, they had proven to themselves that they could stand up and fight. And that was enough to keep them moving forward.

The sound of clapping echoed through the now-quiet street, drawing Karna and Ashwatthama's attention. They turned to see a man approaching them, his appearance distinctive. He had striking yellow hair, neatly styled, and wore a black suit with black gloves, giving him an air of professionalism mixed with a hint of mystery. His eyes, sharp and calculating, assessed the two boys with a hint of amusement.

The man stopped a short distance away, his hands still clapping slowly. "Not bad, kids," he said, his voice smooth and confident. "But next time, leave it to the actual Hunters. You two did a good job for your first time, though."

Karna narrowed his eyes slightly, trying to gauge the man's intentions. Despite the compliment, there was a subtle authority in the man's tone that suggested he was used to being in control. Karna felt a mix of curiosity and caution. Who was this man, and why was he here?

"May we know who you are?" Karna asked, his voice polite but firm.

The man smiled, clearly enjoying the attention. "You can call me Ka," he replied. "I'm a Silver-rank Hunter. I was in the area when the Gate break occurred and came to handle the situation." He glanced at the fallen monster and then back at the boys. "But it seems you two got here first."

Ashwatthama crossed his arms, a hint of skepticism in his expression. "So, you're a Hunter, huh? And a Silver-rank, no less."

Ka nodded, his smile widening. "That's right. It's not every day you see civilians, especially kids, taking on a Gate break. You both have potential, I'll give you that."

Karna, still feeling the adrenaline from the battle, couldn't help but feel a sense of pride at the acknowledgment, but he also knew they were lucky this time. The danger of Gate breaks was real, and they had acted impulsively. "We just did what we had to," Karna said modestly.

Ka chuckled, clearly entertained by their humility. "That's a good mindset, but remember, the world of Hunters is dangerous. It's not just about having power; it's about knowing how to use it wisely and responsibly." He glanced at the monster carcass again. "Still, you handled yourselves well for first-timers. You should consider registering as Hunters officially if you're interested."

Ashwatthama raised an eyebrow. "You think we have what it takes?"

Ka shrugged. "Potential is there, no doubt. But potential needs to be honed. You need training, experience, and guidance. The Hunter's Association can provide that. Plus, you'd be helping keep the world safe from these creatures."

Karna and Ashwatthama exchanged a look. The idea of becoming official Hunters was tempting. They both had powers and a desire to use them for good. This could be their chance to make a real difference.

Karna turned back to Ka. "Thank you for the advice, Ka. We'll think about it."

Ka nodded, his expression approving. "Good. Think it over seriously. The Hunter's Association is always looking for talented individuals." He paused, then added with a grin, "And if you ever make it to Silver-rank, maybe we'll run into each other again."

With that, Ka gave them a nod and turned to leave, walking down the street with an air of confidence. As he disappeared into the distance, Karna and Ashwatthama stood in silence for a moment, processing everything that had happened.

Ashwatthama finally broke the silence. "Well, that was... unexpected."

Karna nodded, his mind racing with possibilities. The encounter with Ka had opened up a new path for them, one filled with challenges and opportunities. Becoming Hunters could be their way to protect others and understand their powers better. But it also meant stepping into a dangerous world, one that required courage and commitment.

"We should talk to our families," Karna said thoughtfully. "This isn't a decision we can make lightly."

Ashwatthama agreed, the serious expression on his face a rare sight. "Yeah. But I think... I want to do it. I want to be a Hunter."

Karna smiled, feeling a similar determination welling up within him. "Me too. Let's see where this road takes us."

With that, they turned and headed home, the events of the day marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. The world of Hunters awaited them, filled with dangers and mysteries, but also with the promise of adventure and the chance to make a difference.

After a while Karna has rerun back to his house. Karna walked into his house, the familiar warmth and comfort of home enveloping him. But before he could even take off his shoes, a small figure came rushing toward him. It was his younger sister, Tapti. She flung herself at him, wrapping her arms around his waist in a tight hug.

"Big brother, you're okay!" Tapti exclaimed, her voice a mix of relief and concern.

Karna gently patted her head, smiling down at her. "Of course I am, Tapti. Why wouldn't I be?"

As he looked up, he noticed his mother standing in the living room, her eyes fixed on the television screen. The news was on, and it was broadcasting footage of the Gate break that had occurred earlier. The camera captured scenes of chaos, the rampaging monster, and even glimpses of Karna and Ashwatthama confronting the beast. It was clear that his mother and sister had seen everything.

His mother turned to him, her expression a mixture of worry and sternness. "Karna, what were you thinking? Going up against a monster like that... you could have been seriously hurt!"

Karna walked over to her, gently pulling away from Tapti's embrace. He could see the fear in his mother's eyes, and it pained him to have caused her such distress. "Mom, I'm sorry for worrying you. But I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. People were in danger."

His mother sighed, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "I understand, but you're just a student. You're not trained for this kind of thing."

Karna nodded, knowing she had a point. "You're right. That's why I've been thinking... about becoming a Hunter. A real one. With training and everything."

His mother's eyes widened in surprise. "A Hunter? Karna, that's a dangerous path. You saw what happened today. Are you sure that's what you want?"

Karna looked into her eyes, his expression serious. "Yes, Mom. I've thought about it. I want to help people and protect them. If becoming a Hunter is the way to do that, then I want to try."

There was a moment of silence as his mother studied his face, searching for any hint of doubt. When she found none, she sighed again, softer this time. "You're so much like your father," she murmured, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "Always wanting to help others, even at the risk of your own safety."

Karna felt a warmth in his chest at her words. He didn't know much about his father, but hearing that he shared this trait made him proud. "I'll be careful, Mom. I promise."

Tapti, who had been quietly listening, finally spoke up. "Big brother, if you become a Hunter, will you fight more monsters?"

Karna smiled and crouched down to her level. "Maybe. But the important thing is to help people, Tapti. And to make sure everyone is safe."

Tapti nodded, her eyes wide with admiration. "I think you'll be a great Hunter!"

Karna chuckled, ruffling her hair. "Thanks, Tapti."

His mother finally relented, nodding slowly. "Alright, Karna. If this is really what you want, then I support you. But promise me you'll take the necessary precautions and don't take unnecessary risks."

Karna stood up and hugged his mother, feeling her warmth and concern. "I promise, Mom. I'll be careful."

As they broke the hug, Karna glanced at the TV screen once more, the images of the Gate break still fresh in his mind. His decision was made, but he knew this was just the beginning. The path of a Hunter was fraught with dangers and challenges, but it was also a path that could lead to great things. With his family behind him and his determination set, Karna felt ready to take the first step into this new world.
