Dean stood in front of Michael and me looking sheepish. "What's with the hiding behind these tiny objects?" I asked. Dean looked at me "If I hide behind anything bigger I can't see you." Ladies and gentlemen, our next genius. At this, I didn't know how to respond and he looked a little itchy as I let the suspense grow. Poor guy, I took out a piece of paper from my pocket and looked at him, he was beaming from ear to ear. "On one condition...," I started "... Michael and I have to join you two on your first date and this isn't my condition, this is straight from Mary herself." Great I now sounded as if I was lecturing them on the safety of crossing the road. First no words and now too many words. He cupped both his hands together and I placed the note with Mary's contact information gently in his hands. He looked at the paper as though it was the most precious thing in the world. Oh boy, this was going to be interesting. He looked up briefly and said, "Whatever her heart desires, thy will be done." He then took the paper and opened it, his eyes glowing. He lifted it to his mouth and gave it a kiss before placing it in his breast pocket. He then made punches in the air. "Thank you", he said with tears in his voice. He started walking away from us. Michael was still standing next to me and I had completely forgotten that his arm was around my shoulders. "So we are joining them?" I looked up at him and shrugged, "I guess so." "Thanks for all your help," he said. I was about to respond when I felt his mouth on the top of my head. WTF! Did he just kiss me? I stood there completely stunned.
I got home later than usual but I knew that the house would be empty as the twins would only be picked up by my mother after her shift this afternoon. The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was that the TV was way too loud. I stopped in the doorway to see if I could hear any other sounds. I recognized the program, it was the twin's favorite. I heard giggling at one point and immediately knew the twins must already be home. I walked into the living room and saw Sarah lounging on the couch, her phone was plastered to her ear and she was shouting over the too-loud program. Her conversation was so not age-appropriate. The conversation she was having was hopefully with a legal adult. She wasn't wearing much today either. The weather was warm but not that warm. She was wearing a tube top and the shortest jeans I ever saw. Her outfit reminded me of Daisy Duke because she wore her outfit two sizes too small and every inch of her was bulging. The twins were thankfully so in tune with the TV that they didn't even notice her. When they saw me they both got up and ran towards me. "Let! Let! We haves got home!" They both shouted in unison. "I see that", I stood there hugging them. Sarah wasn't facing the entrance and hadn't seen me walk in. Yup, one amazing babysitter I thought sarcastically. "Hi, Sarah!" I shouted loudly over the television. "Fuck!" She screamed and fell off the couch, her phone flying from her hand. I tried to shut the twin's ears. "Children here!" I shouted as she tried to pick herself off the floor. "Well, this is your fault you know." She bent down to gather her phone and I saw every crack you don't want to see. No wonder older gents favored her, they didn't need an imagination.
"You hungry?" I asked the twins and pushed them gently toward the kitchen, not giving them any time to respond. Sarah was back on her phone chatting away in no time. I fixed them each a snack, including Sarah or I would never hear the end of it. I assisted them back to the TV but I did turn down the volume and as I did so, Sarah's volume went down too. They were fixated on each of their individual tasks. Sarah chatted and chewed on the snack I gave her and the twins sang along to their favorite songs between bites. I carried on with my day, as usual, homework, and then my new book.
