An awkward silence stretched throughout the guild, and just as Damien thought that he was going to be asked to leave, Master Godric burst out laughing.
"Hahaha!" He slapped his thigh and then peered at Damien from the third floor. "You have guts boy, I will give you that. It's good to see that you are no longer acting like a fool demanding a toy which he cannot get or deserve."
He turned to look at Gina before saying, "Let him finish the formalities, I want to see what mountains he can move."
After speaking he somersaulted and fell back on the corridor of the third floor before vanishing.
"Lord Damien, please come here," once he was gone, Gina who stood behind the bar counter called out to Damien. Her voice was as sweet and seductive as a siren causing Damien to stare at her and for Xavier to smack him at the back of his head.
"Ah yes," Damien said as he rubbed the back of his head.
He walked over to the counter and sat down on one of the long stools that were placed against the counter.
"What role would you like to be assigned to you?" Gina asked politely. She then thought about something and began, "There are three roles in a guild. Warriors, Merchant and Healers. The role of warriors is assigned to the beastmen who are apt for fighting and protecting."
"Merchants are the strategists and the brain behind many of our business dealings. Lastly, the healers are responsible for the safety of the guild members."
"Please choose your role wisely because you will be put in a team after you become a member of the guild. In case you cannot perform your responsibilities according to the role that has been given to you, it will be troublesome."
Damien didn't have to think about this at all because he knew from the start what role he was going to pick.
"Doctor—I am going to be a doctor, a healer who cannot use magic."
*** **** ****
Damien looked at the mark (A falling star with a tail.) on the back of his hand, it looked like a tattoo minus the pain.
"Where are we going?" Xavier asked. The two of them were now roaming on the street, after Damien picked up his role, it went without saying that the entire guild was shocked.
After all, how could there be a healer without magic?! It was simply impossible.
But maybe the Fallen Star guild was used to picking up weirdos but Gina did not say anything. She didn't say anything and simply smiled before noting down his role and giving Damien the guild mark.
"To the herb and medicine hall," Damien answered Xavier. Gina told him that she would assign a team to him very soon and he should be prepared for an adventure at any time.
This meant that he had limited time in his hand and Damien wanted to use this time to get his hands on something that would help him make anaesthesia.
He hadn't unlocked the anaesthesia in the shopping section of his system which meant that he could not use it for the time being.
However, Damien knew that he could not continue treating beastmen without anaesthesia or else it would be troublesome.
Not only for his patients but also for him.
Fortunately, he had Dan who had already assigned him a concoction which he could use to make a spell that could be used as an anaesthesia. Not to mention, the one in his shop section was used on humans, Damien didn't know whether it could be used on beastmen.
"It can be used but the effects will be limited," said Dan, as he answered the question that was swirling inside Damien's head. "Of course, you can use it to strengthen the effects of the spell but that will all be there to it."
So it was like a buff? Damien thought to himself.
"For what?" Xavier asked with a frown on his face. "Didn't you say that herbs and concoctions were useless for Lady Cecil's condition?" Xavier thought that Damien was going to get something for Lady Cecil and her illness.
"I am not buying herbs for, mother," replied Damien. "There is something that I need in case I am sent on a mission."
Xavier seemed like he wanted to ask what the thing was but the two of them had arrived at the clinic.
"Is anyone inside?" Damien called while standing in the doorway.
Thud. Bang. Thud.
The sound of someone falling and crashing echoed from the back room of the clinic before the curtain on the side of the main hall was pushed and a grime-covered man stepped out. He reminded Damien of a large dragonfly.
"Good—ack—good day," said the man with a smile on his face as he wriggled out of the tassels of the strings that he had thrown on the floor, only to get caught. "How may I help you?"
"I would like to buy some Holyroot, goat bush and Marsh suckle," said Damien as he counted the herbs that were noted down on the screen by Dan. "And ah, the bone powder of Alabaster Angelfish fins."
The owner of the clinic frowned before asking, "These are all slightly poisonous herbs, are you sure that you want them? And Angelfish can numb the body of even the strongest beastmen. If it is not used carefully, it can get dangerous. "
The man thought that he had gotten a customer finally, who would have thought that he would end up running into a murderer? Should he call the guards?
"I just need them in the tiniest amount," said Damien as he placed a golden coin on the counter. "Can't it be done?"
The man behind the counter looked at the gold coin and then at Damien before saying, "If you add another maybe—"
"I will only add another coin if you double the amount," haggled Damien. "Don't think I don't know that these things are quite cheap. I am only handing you a gold coin for your trouble and nothing else."
There was silence before —
"Very well."
