In a cauldron that Damien had arranged from the small kitchen, he poured the Holyroot that had been chopped. The purplish leaves hissed and sputtered as soon as they made contact with the hot surface of the cauldron.
Damien raised his head and read the instructions that were written on the floating screen hovering in front of him.
[Wait for three minutes until the herbs turn liquid.]
And so he did wait. Once the leaves turned into purplish liquid, he added Goat Bush while trickling marsh suckle at the same time.
Three stirs clockwise and two anticlockwise —and finally the Alabaster Angelfish fins' bone powder was added.
"I feel like a wizard," Damien muttered as he stirred the potion in the cauldron. "Why am I making potions when I am supposed to be a doctor?"
"When in Rome you do as the Romans do," Dan simply said. "This is a world of magic and beasts, host. You cannot expect to live like humans, do you?"
Damien had to pause his stirring as he turned to look at Dan. "You—don't you think you are getting more and more human-like these days?" He even learned how to speak idioms now.
His words brought a smile to Dan's face. The 3D hologram floated in front of Damien's face as he clasped his hands and said, "Oh it is truly fun to study humans. So many emotions and contradictory words!"
"Just yesterday I saw the maid who scolded Miss Priscilla, kneeling and asking for forgiveness in front of Xavier. The change of expression was really amusing, one moment she was sneering and the other moment, she was begging and pleading."
"It was faster than the pace with which a chameleon changes its colour, I have to admit that humans can do anything as long as their benefits are attached."
'That…is not a good thing,' thought Damien but he kept his thoughts to himself. He didn't need another round of questions hurled at his head.
However, through Dan's babbling, Damien found out another important piece of information.
Xavier seemed to have taken care of the maid who was bullying Priscilla. No wonder he thought that there was a sudden change in the servants who worked in their mansion.
At least they were not giving him stinky looks hoping that he would drop dead every second.
In fact, they were more respectful than before, even Priscilla looked like she was going along with her new maid.
As for Henry —
Damien furrowed his brows, he hadn't seen Henry ever since the fight and he had no idea what that boy was doing. He was an orphan and didn't have the slightest clue about how to get along with his siblings.
Was he supposed to say sorry?
But why should he say sorry? Henry was in the wrong as well wasn't he? He didn't see him coming with an apology bouquet or something of the sort.
With a snort, he poured the numbing potion into vials and pushed the thought of his instant younger brother.
[Congratulations! The First Anaesthesia of the Beast world has been created.]
[Strength: +9

Mana:+1]
"Mana?" Damien rubbed his eyes as he carefully looked at the screen. This was his first time seeing the word mana pop on the screen. Does this mean that he could recover the lost mana inside this body?
[Skills: Levelled by +1]
[Fame: +2]
[Combine the numbing potion with the human anaesthesia to create the most potent knock-out spell.]
Damien read his stats again and again, once he was certain that he hadn't missed anything, he pocketed the vials of the numbing potion in his space ring.
Knockout spell eh? For that, he had to collect more points.
He walked out of his room and just as he headed out, Damien noticed that someone was lurking outside his room. He turned and looked right at the corner where he noticed a shadow.
"What the—" who was keeping an eye on him now? Damien walked over to the end of the corridor with a determined look but as he came to a stop where the shadowy figure should have been—
He didn't see anyone. There was just a vase and some withered flowers inside of it.
"There is nothing," said Dan while eyeing the empty corridor. "Do you have hallucinations? It can happen when a person is too hungry, distraught or.."
"I know when hallucinations happen, Dan," said Damien in a clipped voice. Though he indeed could not see anything in the corridor for some reason he had a feeling that there was indeed someone standing here just now.
And it was not his hallucination.
"Lord Damien," Xavier glanced at Damien. The two of them were sitting in the carriage as Damien stared out of the window. "Is something the matter? You seem far too quiet."
Damien opened his mouth to speak but then thought against it and shook his head. What was he supposed to say? That he felt like someone was watching him?
If he did Xavier would only scoff at him. After all, who would want to keep an eye on a man who had lost his beast core and mana along with it?
No one. Exactly. He knew the answer before he could even bring the words to his lips. So what was the point?
"It's nothing," Damien shook his head and replied. Xavier looked like he knew that it wasn't just nothing but before he could say anything, the carriage came to a halt and Damien took advantage of this opportunity presented to him.
He didn't want to talk about what happened in the morning and be treated as a narcissistic crazy man.
With his foot placed on the top of the steps, he jumped down the carriage and walked over to the entrance of the guild when —
"But why!" Damien heard a woman shout as soon as he stepped inside the guild. Behind him, Xavier also turned and looked at the woman who was standing in front of Master Godric with tears running down her cheeks.
"Why can't you help my father? The mission was only for four days and yet he had been missing for a week. Isn't it about time you send someone, Master Godric?"
