Andrew's POV
"No way!" All heads turned to look at the teenage girl who had just yelled.
And that was when I noticed her. She had been behind her mother who was standing my father, hand in hand, as if she was hiding.
"Jade, are you okay?" My father asked her.
She nodded mindlessly while she stared at me, like she had just seen a ghost.
"What in the world is wrong with her?" I asked myself and frowned. There was something about her anyway, but I couldn't explain it.
My wolf stirred in my mind and I wondered why. That was unusual. Since my father and I were lone wolves who had decided to stay out of packs and mingle with people in the city, we had always suppressed our wolves.
The city people knew nothing about werewolves so we couldn't show our true selves. More so, doing that would expose us to rogues who wouldn't hesitate to harm us, as we were weaker without a pack.
That was one of the reasons I had vehemently objected to my dad's decision of bringing his human girlfriend who even had a child into our house.
That meant we would never be able to shift in the house and run around in our wolf's form, anymore, like before.
My fragile freedom had just been shattered by the clueless human girlfriend who looked like she was after my dad's wealth.
"Do you know each other?" My dad's girlfriend asked her daughter after looking between the two of us.
That question made the daughter seemed really familiar but I didn't really remember where I had known or seen her, before.
"No. We don't know each other." The girl replied, sharply. Her tone was sharp like a knife. It was as if she didn't even want to be associated with me.
Who would want to associate with a gold digger like her, anyway? Like mother, like daughter!
I thought, angrily and that seemed to also anger my wolf, but not in my support. He growled weakly, at me.
I didn't understand what was wrong with him.
"Oh, they should know each other. They attend the same college." My dad stated and that made me remember that I have seen her before, indeed.
We had taken few classes together before but she wasn't that noticeable.
I wondered why she had denied knowing me then. I was a popular guy in school, even those that didn't have any class with me, knew me not to talk of someone like her who had taken few classes with me.
A miss nobody like her dared to deny knowing me? How funny!
My wolf growled out, weakly again.
"She is not a nobody." My wolf gritted out and I wondered what his problem was.
I simply regarded that as his way of showing his anger towards me for suppressing him, so I couldn't blame him for being grumpy and insufferable.
"It is a big school." I heard the girl replied my dad and I scoffed at how she was lying through her teeth.
I knew she knew me. Definitely!
"Okay. That is fine. At least, you guys know each other now. So, Selena, this is my son, Andrew. Andrew, this is my woman that I said would be coming over with her daughter, Jade. I hope you all get along very well." My dad introduced us to one another.
"Hello, Andrew! What a handsome young guy you are. You are a God's gift to women, I must say." Selena said to me, as a compliment, smiling brightly but that just seemed to fuel my anger.
I hoped she wasn't thinking she could get closer to me by throwing compliments here and there.
"I hear that a lot." I replied her and smiled through my teeth. She should know I wasn't pleased to have her and her daughter invading my space.
Had it been my dad didn't bring her in here, I wouldn't have any displeasure. I wouldn't even give a damn about whether they got married or not.
I just didn't like anybody invading my space. Especially the humans who knew nothing about our world.
"Right!" Selena stated and used a bright smile to cover up, so I couldn't say whether she got the subtle message I was passing to her or not.
However, a glance at her daughter's countenance made me know that the girl definitely got my message.
"She seems smarter than her mother. Or was she just being expressive with her feelings while her mother wasn't?" I wondered, inwardly.
"Selena, let me take you to our room. Andrew, please show Jade to her room. Remember the arrangement?" My dad asked me.
I was surprised that he gave me such a task but I couldn't turn him down as I actually have few things to say to the girl, in privacy.
"Sure, dad." I replied my dad and looked at the girl, nudging her to follow me.
Quietly, she followed behind me and I walked her upstairs. Her room was directly opposite mine.
Initially, I had objected to that arrangement but my dad had gone on and on, endlessly, about how I could help keep an eye on her and go to her aid in case she had trouble settling in.
I finally agreed when my dad had asked whether I would prefer she takes my dead mom's room, instead. It was the one opposite the master bedroom. And the room had the remnants of my mom's belongings.
She had died during a rogue's attack on our pack when I was still a toddler. And that led us to desert our pack and entered the city.
Giving the room to a complete stranger would means packing out my mom's belongings and I would never do that. So, I rather put up with having her in the room opposite mine.
"Here is your room." I told the girl as we got to the entrance of the room.
"Thank you." She had said to me, curtly. That was the first time she would be talking directly to me.
I cleared my throat then, knowing that was the perfect time to tell her what was in my mind.
"I need you to know that I hate people invading my space. I would appreciate it if you can stay on your lane and completely avoid trespassing on my space. I am sure you understand exactly my drift." I told her, harshly.
She looked up at me, the expression on her was one I couldn't understand nor explain. She looked like she had a lot going on in her head and was hardly listening to me.
Despite our situation, I couldn't help but notice how bright and round her big eyes were. They were beautiful.
From the appearance of her eyes, pointed nose and full lips, there was no doubt she was a beautiful young lady, and I would have stopped to appreciate her, on a normal day but not when she was there in my house, as my stepsister to be.
"I believe you can find your way downstairs, for anything else, which I definitely won't be the one to guide you through." I informed her, firmly and walked away.
She was just standing there, looking at, and thinking of what I had no idea of.
"You are going to regret treating her like that, later." My wolf mumbled weakly and I didn't get what he said.
"No matter how beautiful she is, she should just avoid my space." I ignored my wolf and maintained firmly.
