Chapter 26: The Scroll!
Zen could see hints, but what did this truly mean?
Does it mean that he knew everything? Does it mean that he knew where he was? Does it mean that he knew what was going on with this whole trial thing?
The short term answer was: No!
His trait was hints, not google.
It wasn't omniscient and sometimes even he didn't understand what it wanted to imply by its words.
It could be as obvious as [If you turn left, you die] or as abstract as a small [Danger].
He had many hints, like the first one, while the latter only appeared when they were in front of the gate of death.
So, one might ask, did he truly need the scroll? And did his hints not tell him what he needed to do in order to kill the maze walker? Well, the only thing it told him was...
[Ah, that thing looks dangerous; if you search well, you might find a scroll related to it.]
Quite a long hint, nonetheless, it was still useless. Zen suddenly stopped at a little turn where he could see a chest.
[Hmm? A chest! I wonder what's inside.]
'Fucking useless.'
Zen proceeded to open it while evading the little [Trap] signs.
*Click*
"Tsk."
*Click*
What Zen found inside the chest was nothing but water and food once again.
He turned back and started jogging.
Second chest, third chest, fourth chest...
"Fucking hell! Where the fuck can I find the scroll?!" Zen kicked the fifth chest he found with nothing useful.
Now that he was alone, his true nature was there for the world to see.
Taking out a water jug and some jerkies, Zen sat on top of the chest as he ate to his heart's content.
"This damned trial, all that effort to get stuck in the last room." Having eaten enough, Zen threw the water jug to the ground and got up before he dusted himself and walked out of the small chest room.
"Hopefully those guys are still alive." Zen said as he thought back to his comrades. He then turned to his right and continued the search.
Being all by himself didn't help as he had nothing to think about except some small plans he had in mind that he was perfecting. Luck was still not on his side, as even after 7 chests, with 1 of them being a trap, he couldn't find the scroll.
But, when he opened the eighth chest...
"Hahahaha, There it is." The scroll was sitting around at the bottom.
He took it out, opened it, and...
"Are you messing with me?" His expression changed to that of utter confusion and anger.
--------------
Back to the small group of six, who were all sitting around in the room where Dali found the scroll, the atmosphere was tense and everybody looked gloomy and sad.
Although the road back here was full of traps, there was quite a distance between each one of them, and Zen made sure to point out every single one of them. Now, they could confidently walk the whole distance back, like Melissa.
It's been a while since they arrived here and they were sure Zen had a hard time finding the scroll, seeing as it took him so long. So, they took this chance to rest and ease up their mood.
"Uuuuu, what do we do?" Lisa, who was still crying, asked; her tears had yet to stop.
Dali and the boys, however, were far past that and were now in the phase of shock that Yu was in first when he realized that Pablo was gone forever.
"We can't do anything; we can just hope that the maze walker doesn't suddenly appear again." Alex replied, his gaze on the floor.
"Can we even know when it will appear? All we know is that it can teleport and kill us in a split second with its claws; we don't even know if it has a pattern or not." Sabrina said.
"I can feel it approaching, and even without me, the mist gives it away, it's only a question who it will aim for when it doe-" Alex suddenly stopped mid-sentence.
"It's Here! Get out of the room!" He shouted as the horrific, dark mist appeared around the room. Dali and Max, hearing the shout, were quick to react as they stumbled to get out.
Sabrina, Alex, and Lisa had an easier time getting out, but Yu... Was too late.
"KikYAAAAAAAA!" The screams of the maze walker drowned the room as it materialized out of thin air and appeared behind Yu.
"No! NOOOOOO!" Yu's face expressed pure terror as his eyes opened wide and he stretched his arms in hope that someone would help him... Alas, the monster was far too swift and sinister
*Slash* *Thump*
"FUUUUUUCK!"
*BLEGH* *UGH*
"Mom! Uuuuu"
"Kikikiki." Shouts and cries echoed as the maze walker just laughed while vanishing like its mist.
"What happened, Who died?!" Zen arrived to see the scene of the group losing it.
Alex had tears in his eyes as he smacked his fist against the wall, Lisa was bawling her eyes out while holding on to Sabrina's lab coat, as it was her last chance at life. Dali once again tried to throw up but there was nothing left in his stomach, making him gag uncomfortably, while Max was on the ground, both hands and knees on the floor as he cried.
"It was Yu. That thing appeared just when we were discussing about it and while all of us ran away... he was too slow; we couldn't do anything." Sabrina explained. Like a professional, she was the one who held on to herself the most.
"You can't. You can't do anything." Zen said.
"What do you mean we can't do anything?" Alex turned around to look at Zen with wide eyes. He was the one to always say those words, but now that he wasn't, he didn't like them.
"I found the scroll."
