Chapter 17 - Stances & Something OP

"So, class, I'll be teaching you all about stances today," Dan said as he looked at the students in the class.

The students had already selected their weapons, so there was no need to wait any longer.

"I want to believe that you're familiar with the weapons you're holding. If you're not comfortable with yours, you can select another one that suits you better," Dan continued.

Since no one changed their weapon, he decided to get down to business.

He started strolling from left to right, hands clasped behind his back. "So, what do you all know about stances?"

The class was silent for a few seconds before some of the students began raising their hands.

Dan's eyes scanned the room, eventually settling on a boy with red hair standing not too far from Arin.

The boy instantly dropped his hand before answering. "A stance is a particular posture an individual takes before attacking or while attacking," he said. "A person can have multiple stances, but they must learn to know which one to use at a given moment."

"Good," Dan said, nodding. "That's basically what a stance is. It's not something complex, but it'll help in the long run."

"It also helps you attack more efficiently and maintain proper balance," he added.

From the way Dan spoke, it seemed to be pretty important, but since he said it wasn't complex, most of the students weren't too worried.

"I'll start by showing you all the basic stance that you must know. It's easy, but important," Dan said.

Seeing that Dan was about to demonstrate the stance, the students began spreading out to create more space.

Even if they hadn't spread out, there would have been enough space for Dan to do what he wanted to, after all, the room was spacious.

Dan stood in the empty space as he gripped the wooden sword, ready to display the stance.

The students watched in anticipation, eager to see what Dan was about to do.

Since he said it was the most basic stance, they didn't expect anything flashy, but their curiosity couldn't be denied.

Some of them already knew the stance Dan was about to show. This was mainly because some of them had siblings who were Warriors, so they had seen it before. But seeing a stance and learning it were two different things.

*WHOOSH*

Suddenly, Dan crouched as he gripped the wooden sword tighter.

But that was not all...

His right leg suddenly moved backward with immense speed, while he bent his left knee forward, both hands on his sword.

Everything happened so fast, but the students managed to catch what he did.

"So fast..." the red-haired boy who had answered Dan's question earlier muttered.

"I know, right?" another boy standing beside him said.

"He's the Weapon class teacher. What did you expect?" a girl added, folding her arms.

"This is the stance I was talking about. If you all successfully learn it, it'll boost your combat abilities," Dan said. "I'll do it again, but slower this time, so you can all see the steps."

Immediately after saying this, he started performing the stance again, albeit more slowly.

This time, the students were able to follow his movements more closely, understanding what he did better.

Just as he said, the steps weren't too hard. It was just crouching, moving the right leg backward, and bending the left knee forward. Overall, it was something easy to learn.

"So, I believe you've all seen the stance properly," Dan said. "Before the class ends, you will all have to perform this stance."

There was no objection. After all, it was pretty easy to do.

"Who's going first?" Dan asked. "How about you?" He pointed at the red-haired boy who had answered his question earlier.

The boy instantly stepped forward and walked toward Dan with a nervous smile.

"You can start," Dan said. "Just remember what I did and recreate that same movement."

The boy nodded and gripped the wooden dagger he was holding.

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, then exhaled before opening his eyes.

In a swift motion, he crouched, moving his right leg backward while bending his left knee forward, and then...

*WHOOSH*

He swung his dagger with immense speed, slicing through the air in front of him.

"Perfect," Dan said. "See? It isn't hard." A smile formed on Dan's face; he was glad the students were cooperating and understanding the stance.

There was also the fact that the students were focused and paying attention, well, except for a particular someone.

Arin placed his hand on his chin as he stared at the system screen in front of him. He was currently looking at the spell he had just received for the Chaos Element, with a slight frown on his face.

[Arcane Chaos: This Spell allows the user to release a wave of Chaotic Energy that interferes with the natural flow of Mana in the surrounding area.]

The good feeling he had about this still hadn't disappeared, though he knew that whatever he had just received was to his advantage.

At least, he wouldn't be confused for long, because the words on the system screen suddenly changed.

[Do you want more information about this spell?]

The options "yes" or "no" were displayed just below the system's question.

'Of course, why wouldn't I want more information about it?' Arin thought. 'Show me.'

Immediately after he responded to the system, the screen suddenly disappeared, startling Arin for a second, but it reappeared again.

[This spell causes Mana to become unstable, making it extremely difficult—if not impossible—for others to cast Spells. Attempts to channel Mana or cast Spells could result in Spells misfiring, fizzling out, or even backfiring on the caster.]

Arin's eyes widened in shock as he stared at the system screen. His hand began trembling as a single thought crossed his mind.

'I think I might have just gotten something OP.'
