"Done," Arin muttered as he stared at the paper he was holding, which had a list of important dates written out. "I'll certainly remember these days, but it won't hurt to have a backup."
By the time he finished, it was already evening, though the sky wasn't fully dark yet. He still had some time before his appointment with Tessa.
"System, show me the inventory," Arin said as he sat down on the bed.
[Inventory: A space where you can keep different items except living things.]
[Slots: Unlimited]
[Items: Extra's Mask, Dark Cloak.]
Arin squinted at the system screen. "Unlimited slots... I see." This meant he could store anything in the inventory, regardless of the amount, except living things. It was a great feature that he planned to utilize to the fullest.
"Now, how do I access it?" he muttered, asking no one in particular.
Surprisingly, the system, which usually didn't answer questions, suddenly provided an explanation.
[Just think about the object you want to put in the inventory, that's all.]
[Note: You must be in physical contact with the object.]
[Also, if you want to remove an item from the inventory, just think about the item, and it'll instantly be removed from the inventory.]
Arin placed his finger on his chin. "Hmm, that's convenient."
Deciding to try it out, he thought about the mask, and in an instant, the mask appeared in his hand. "Great."
"I haven't seen the cloak yet, but the system mentioned it was black, so..."
Arin instantly thought of a black cloak, and just as expected, the cloak appeared in his hand. It was pure black with no design, which made Arin like it even more.
"It has the [Repair] skill, so even if it gets torn, it'll repair itself," Arin muttered, remembering the cloak's ability.
He stared at the cloak and the mask, then thought about putting them back in the inventory. Instantly, they disappeared from his hand. The inventory was indeed convenient.
He glanced at the table beside the window and noticed a small badge that read "3A." That would be his class in the Academy. Tomorrow, classes would start, and they would test their Affinity with their innate Element and learn how to use their Element effectively.
"Though everyone already knows their Element and even has Spells," Arin muttered. But Alex was the only person who defied the rules of this world. Every individual could use only one Element, yet he could use all Elements.
Well, it wasn't time to dwell on that now, especially as darkness was slowly taking over the light. It would soon be time for him to meet Tessa.
"She'll be there, I'm certain of it." Even though Tessa didn't assure him that she would come, he was sure she would be there. After all, he knew the kind of person she was. He had read all about her character, personality, and traits. So he knew her more than any other person in this world.
A smile crept on Arin's face as he stared outside. Instantly, the black cloak appeared in his hand, and he quickly donned it. He had already taken off his uniform. Though she had seen him in the uniform, she knew he was a student in the Academy.
"At least, the mask prevented her from seeing my face."
The dark cloak was long and fit him perfectly. It also had a hood that obscured his face, though his mask already did that job.
At this point, Arin was fully ready.
A few minutes later, silence took over, and the darkness stretched out as far as the eye could see. The only sources of light were the moon, hanging high and beautifully in the sky, and the little lights adorning the Academy grounds.
It was finally time for him to leave.
Arin walked towards the window and climbed out. In a swift motion...
*WHOOSH*
He instantly jumped down without the slightest hint of hesitation. His brown hair and his cloak fluttered as the wind swept past his face. His room was on the second floor, so it wasn't too high.
With his composure intact, he landed softly with a small thud. He darted his head towards a building in the distance that didn't look significantly different from the other buildings in the Academy.
"The library..."
Instantly, Arin dashed towards the building silently. His steps were almost inaudible as his cloak fluttered in the wind. The wind whizzed past his face as he got closer to the building, and the night masked his presence.
A few seconds later, he reached the library building. He quickly assessed the structure, noting the stone façade and the decorative ledges that could serve as handholds. Using the rough texture of the wall and the protruding ledges, he started scaling the building.
The library wasn't too high, so it didn't take long for Arin to reach the rooftop. With a slight boost, he launched himself upwards and landed on the rooftop.
Immediately, he heard a sweet voice creep into his ears.
"You're late," Tessa said, gazing at him with her sharp blue eyes.
'Just like I thought... She's here...' Arin thought as a smirk appeared on his face behind the mask.
"Well, I didn't expect you to be here so early," Arin said, his voice muffled by the mask, a sinister edge creeping into his tone. "You've saved me the trouble of hunting you down."
Tessa's eyes suddenly widened in shock as she stepped back.
'H.... Hunting me down.... What does he mean by that.....?' Tessa found herself trembling a bit as she stared at Arin.
'No, I can't slack off now.... I'm not weak....' She reassured herself.
Mustering the courage, she walked forward a bit, before speaking.
"Start talking, Chaos. I don't have time to waste," Tessa said, gripping her sword, ready to strike at any given moment.
