Chapter 6 - The Voice

I walk down the now familiar hallway as I yawn. It has been a week since our summoning. I did say I have never experienced life as great as I experience it here. But I still train till my muscles tear so as to not die in the battlefield. We might be getting fed with a silver spoon. But for how long, that is the question to be asked. I, personally, do not want to hear the answer to it.

I do my daily routines again, which has been implemented to everybody who has been summoned here. I brush. I bathe. Eat breakfast. Learn the language, etiquette, and history of this world. Thereafter, lunch. Physical practice. Weapon mastery programme. Dinner. Free time. Sleep. Rinse and repeat.

Personally, I don't mind this schedule, unlike most of the others. As I talk to myself as I walk to the dining area to get my lunch. I hear something calling me.

"Haru... I am here... Come to me... Do not be afraid... Haru."

The voice was calming, endearing, soothing. It felt warm. Like a father or a grandfather. Someone masculine but not really abrupt, and the voice wasn't much coarser than mine. I felt attracted to it. I followed the voice. As I followed the voice, I realized it was starting to come from behind a wall much further from where we were lodging. I started looking for a way to get to the voice. A door or something else which led me to what was beyond the wall. As I was searching, I hear Alisha's footsteps. Her footsteps were very distinguishable from others. It was loud yet silent at the same time.

Anyway, as soon as I heard her I hoped into a bush which was conveniently placed beside me. After she had walked past me, I jumped out of the bush and ran to the dining area. I had made up my mind to come here at sometime today, late past midnight, when everyone would be asleep.

After this incident, I continued throughout the day like any other day. As soon as it hit midnight I covered myself with the black goop which I now call Vaac. I covered myself with it, so it will be harder to spot me at this time of the night. I also used light concealment magic and low-grade light magic. The former as an assurance, the latter to see in the dark. It is not like I haven't mastered the mid-grade magic. I used low-grade magic because Alisha can easily track me, sensing the Mana turbulence, which is noticeable when using higher-grade magic.

After exiting the room and escaping unnoticed from the guards, I again come in front of the wall I stood before. The voice comes again.

"Walk through the wall, Haru."

Without wasting time, I walk towards the wall. I expected for the wall to break my path, but somehow I walked through. After I came to my senses, I see I now stood in a well lit room. A room lit by tube lights. Even though it would have been common to me a couple of weeks ago, I observe it as curiously as I could. But then suddenly something... No cut that someone chanced upon me. It was my father. The first hero. Kenshiro Yoshida.
