Lu Jianshen looked up at her, "Are you sure you want a hundred million?"
"Having second thoughts?" Nan Xi mocked him.
"If you really demand it, I will agree," Lu Jianshen said.
Nan Xi, infuriated, tore the "divorce agreement" in her hands and then threw all the shredded paper pieces in front of Lu Jianshen.
"I'm truly a failure, Lu Jianshen. In your heart, I'm just a gold-digger, only interested in your wealth."
"You love Fang Qinglian that much, to give me a hundred million without even blinking an eye?"
"It has nothing to do with Qinglian. I've said that as long as your demands aren't excessive, I'll try my best to satisfy them. I was the one who ended the agreement early; I am the violating party. Since you want the money, I'll just satisfy you."
Nan Xi looked at him and suddenly burst out laughing.
Clutching her fists, laughter brought tears to her eyes, "Since you've already decided, there's no point in explaining."
"You can leave. I don't want to see you."
After Lu Jianshen had left, Lin Xiao carefully walked in.
Nan Xi looked at him with fury, "What do you want?"
Lin Xiao arranged the documents on the table one by one, and then looked at Nan Xi, "Mr. Lu had me print five copies and also sent you the electronic version. He said wait until you've cooled down and then sign."
Nan Xi grabbed a pen, didn't even look, and signed directly.
Then, she threw it at Lin Xiao, "Tell him, I don't care for his money at all."
She didn't bring a penny to the Lu Family.
And she wouldn't take a penny when she left.
After receiving the signed "divorce agreement" from Nan Xi, Lin Xiao immediately called Lu Jianshen, "Mr. Lu, the lady has already signed."
"Signed?"
Seemingly not expecting it to go so smoothly, Lu Jianshen was quite surprised.
"Did she say anything?"
"The lady said she doesn't want any of your money," Lin Xiao reported truthfully.
After hanging up, Lu Jianshen vigorously rubbed his brow.
For some reason, he suddenly felt restless and troubled.
Opposite, Fang Qinglian asked with a gentle smile, "Jianshen, what did you just say was signed?"
"The divorce agreement," he replied indifferently.
Fang Qinglian was stunned and incredulously asked, "You mean, she already agreed to the divorce and has signed?"
"Yes."
"That's wonderful, Jian Shen. After so many years, we can finally be together openly," Fang Qinglian stood up and hugged him happily.
Lu Jianshen, however, seemed somewhat lackluster. For some reason, hearing that she had signed so promptly, without any hesitation, he didn't feel as happy or relieved as he had imagined.
"I'll go wash my hands."
Pushing Fang Qinglian away lightly, Lu Jianshen stepped outside and lit a cigarette.
As the smoke rose, his sharp profile became obscured by the smoke.
She had signed the documents so readily.
Surely, she was going to meet the man she loved.
To think he, Lu Jianshen, couldn't compare to a twice-married older man in her heart, this realization deeply frustrated him.
Lin Xiao had brought the "divorce agreement" when Fang Qinglian was there.
"Give it to me, I will give it to Jianshen later."
Thinking that she was soon to marry Mr. Lu, Lin Xiao handed it over without suspicion.
When Fang Qinglian saw the property split and what Lu Jianshen had given to Nan Xi, she clenched her fists tight.
So many things?
That was beyond what ordinary people could enjoy in several lifetimes.
Jianshen had given them to her with a stroke of his pen.
Nan Xi had brought not a penny when she married into the Lu family, so why should she leave with so much money? Fang Qinglian felt an itchy hatred.
The next day, Nan Xi was packing her things to leave the hospital.
Suddenly, a visitor arrived in the hospital room uninvited.
"What are you doing here?" she asked Fang Qinglian, her tone void of any warmth.
Thinking of her reason for coming, Fang Qinglian struggled to control herself, displaying an extraordinarily gentle smile, "Let's have a drink together, I want to apologize to you."
Fang Qinglian apologizing to her?
How could that be possible?
It didn't take long for Nan Xi to figure out it was a bait she had thrown.
At the cafe downstairs, Fang Qinglian ordered a latte and then turned to Nan Xi, "What would you like to drink?"
"I'll have a glass of plain water."
Fang Qinglian's expression turned awkward abruptly, sensing that Nan Xi was doing this on purpose.
"Just say what you have to say, I don't have time to waste here with you." Nan Xi spoke directly.
"About last time, I indeed said some excessive things, please don't take it to heart."
"What if I insist on taking it to heart?"
Not expecting Nan Xi to play out of turn, Fang Qinglian suddenly faltered, but quickly smiled again, "Then I sincerely apologize to you, I'm sorry, Nan Xi, I didn't mean to hurt you."
This apology was just like a weasel paying a New Year visit to a chicken—she definitely had no good intentions.
A woman like Fang Qinglian, willing to apologize, must surely be holding back a major move.
"Let's get to the point, or I'm leaving."
Hearing this, Fang Qinglian immediately became anxious.
She grabbed Nan Xi and took something out of her bag to place in front of her.
Another "Divorce Agreement"?
Upon spotting those words, Nan Xi scoffed, "I've already signed the document, what, you're afraid I fooled you, and you want me to sign it again in front of you?"
"No."
Fang Qinglian responded with a smile, "I think there's a slight issue with the division of assets in your divorce, so I made some minor adjustments and wanted you to sign again."
Minor adjustments?
Nan Xi glanced at her, picked up the "Divorce Agreement."
But when she saw the divorce compensation fee had changed from "ten million" to "one million," she suddenly laughed, "Did you change this agreement, or did Lu Jianshen change it?"
Fang Qinglian thought she would be furious, but instead, she was unexpectedly calm.
"I changed it."
Nan Xi glared at her, "Does Lu Jianshen know? Are you sure he would agree?"
"Of course, my will is his will."
"If that's the case, why don't you dare to tell him? And why are you sneaking it to me behind his back? Fang Qinglian, you, the proud daughter of the Fang Family, disabled but still proud, stooping so low for money... I think you've burrowed too deeply into the pocket of money."
Fang Qinglian was infuriated by Nan Xi's words, steaming mad.
"And you? When you married into the Lu Family, you didn't contribute a single penny, not even a dowry. Why should you walk away with so much in the divorce?"
"Who told you I didn't have a dowry?"
Fang Qinglian sneered, "Considering your poor mother and gambler father, what dowry could you possibly have? Even if there was one, it surely must have been pathetic."
Nan Xi lifted her wrist, pointing at the jade bracelet on it, "Oh? Are you talking about this 'pathetic' thing?"
Upon seeing the bracelet, Fang Qinglian's eyes widened abruptly, "Impossible, how could that bracelet be with you?"
"When my mother saved your father and grandfather, your grandfather personally gave it to her as a token. Later, when I married Lu Jianshen, grandfather declared it to be my dowry. Although it's a dowry, it belongs to me for life, and no one else."
Fang Qinglian staggered, chilled to the bone by Nan Xi's words.
She certainly recognized that bracelet.
It was a Lu Family heirloom, traditionally passed only to the daughters-in-law and not to outsiders.
No wonder she was so defiant.
However, being weathered by many storms, Fang Qinglian steadied her mind and made a bold decision, "Nan Xi, how about we make a deal?"
