"What kind of transaction?"
"You want money, don't you? I happen to want this bracelet. Ten million, sell the bracelet to me," Fang Qinglian blurted out.
"Ten million?" Nan Xi sneered, "This bracelet is worth one hundred million, you're asking me to make a losing deal."
Fang Qinglian gritted her teeth, "Fine, one hundred million it is."
Although it was expensive, as long as she bought the bracelet, once married to Jianshen, let alone one hundred million, even one hundred billion wouldn't be an issue. No pain, no gain.
"Am I hearing things? Just the other day, I heard from the mother-in-law that Miss Fang is no longer the favored one. I am curious, where did you get this one hundred million to give me?"
"That's none of your business, I'll give you the money," Fang Qinglian said impatiently.
Nan Xi withdrew her wrist and hid the jade bracelet back in her clothes, while glancing at the "Divorce Agreement" in Fang Qinglian's hand.
"No matter how much the jade bracelet is worth, I will not sell it. Also, thank you for reminding me, Miss Fang. According to our country's marriage law, I can demand an equal division of property during a divorce. It looks like, indeed, I should re-sign a new divorce agreement, and clearly divide the property between Lu Jianshen and myself."
"What did you say?"
Fang Qinglian clenched her fist, hardly believing what she had heard.
This Nan Xi had such a thick skin, always wanting more and more.
"Nan Xi, you stop right there. You're penniless, on what grounds do you demand a share of Jianshen's property?"
Seeing Nan Xi rising to leave, Fang Qinglian chased after her, her emotions running high as she propelled her wheelchair.
Soon, they reached the hospital entrance.
The street outside the main gate was bustling with traffic.
There were many people, and vehicles were coming and going even more so.
Fang Qinglian was only focused on chasing Nan Xi, crazily moving the wheelchair, chasing at high speed.
Suddenly, a car came from the right. By the time she realized it, it was already too late; she and the wheelchair were sprawled across the middle of the road.
With a loud bang.
The wheelchair was instantly knocked over, and Fang Qinglian fell hard onto the ground.
When Nan Xi turned around at the sound, what she saw was the image of Fang Qinglian, her wheelchair overturned.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she immediately turned back.
Luckily, this happened right in front of the hospital, and soon enough, emergency doctors came running over, then pushed Fang Qinglian into the emergency room.
When Nan Xi got there, only Fang Qinglian's cell phone was left on the ground, with warm fresh blood splattered on it, emitting a strong stench of blood.
She had just picked it up when she covered her mouth and started vomiting violently.
It wasn't until her stomach had emptied, nearly bringing up bile, that she felt slightly better.
Just then, a man got out of the car, cursing under his breath as he looked at Nan Xi, "Hey, are you a relative of that person just now?"
Nan Xi was about to say no when the man continued, "I'm telling you, I was driving normally, completely obeying traffic rules. It was her who ran the red light, nothing to do with me."
"That won't do, you caused the accident, you must wait for the police to come," Nan Xi grabbed him.
The man, extremely impatient, pushed Nan Xi away, "Are you annoying or what? I've already said it was her fault. I'm telling you, if you want to swindle my money, make me pay for medical expenses, it's not happening."
"Get lost, I have things to do."
The man brushed past her, got in his car, and drove away quickly.
Nan Xi, smelling the strong alcohol on him, frowned deeply.
This man was obviously drunk driving yet had the audacity to shift the blame onto someone else.
Silently noting the license plate number and the man's appearance, Nan Xi immediately headed to the hospital.
She didn't have time to waste with this man, right now Fang Qinglian's life was the most important thing.
If Fang Qinglian really died.
She couldn't bear to think about it.
Lu Jianshen would surely hate her to death.
The light above the "Emergency Room" sign was glaringly bright; upon seeing it, Nan Xi's legs felt weak.
She opened her purse, wanting to find a wet wipe to clean the blood off the cell phone, but for some reason, her hands wouldn't stop shaking.
She rummaged in her bag for three whole minutes, but she couldn't find any tissues.
In the end, she simply dumped everything out of her purse and quickly found wet wipes, tore them open, and wiped off the blood on the cellphone.
Clutching the cellphone, she took a deep breath and dialed that all-too-familiar number in her heart.
"Qinglian," Lu Jianshen's voice came through promptly from the other side, sounding very gentle.
"This is Nan Xi."
"Nan Xi? Isn't this Qinglian's phone? Why do you have it?"
Exhaling, she continued, "Fang Qinglian had a car accident. She's in critical condition now, come quickly!"
"The address."
"The First Hospital."
When she hung up the phone, Nan Xi felt as if all her strength had been drained, her whole body limp like a clump of shapeless mud sliding to the ground.
She indeed disliked Fang Qinglian.
An undisciplined, cunning woman who had always held the position of the unattainable beloved in her husband's heart—no wife could ever like such a woman.
But she had never wished for her to die!
When Lu Jianshen arrived, Nan Xi was crouching on the ground, her hair disheveled, waiting, with the contents of her purse scattered around her.
"What happened? How come you were together?"
His hair was slightly disheveled, and he was still gasping for air in his chest.
Without guessing, it was clear he had run up the stairs.
Nan Xi lifted her head, her dark eyes earnestly looking at Lu Jianshen, "She probably saw the divorce agreement you gave me, felt I was getting too much of the property, and wanted me to sign a new agreement relinquishing everything."
"I didn't agree. I left first, but she wouldn't give up. She chased me frantically, then got hit by a car as she reached the road outside the door."
After speaking, she lowered her head again, her dark eyes fixed on the ground.
Because she did not have the courage to look into Lu Jianshen's eyes, nor did she know what he would say.
If Fang Qinglian woke up, everything would naturally be irrelevant to her.
If she really died, no matter how unrelated it was, in Lu Jianshen's heart, it would probably still be considered her fault.
However, Nan Xi waited a full five minutes and still didn't hear Lu Jianshen's response.
When she looked up again, he was anxiously pacing at the emergency room's door.
Two hours later, finally, the light went off, and the doctor came out.
Nan Xi quickly walked up to him, and the doctor took off his mask to look at Lu Jianshen, "Are you the patient's family?"
"Yes, I am her fiancé."
Fiancé?
Nan Xi listened blankly to those three words. Her husband hadn't divorced her yet, and he had become another woman's fiancé—this was truly the world's greatest joke.
"Fortunately, she was brought in time. Her head bleeding was controlled promptly, and there is some mild concussion. She must rest and have a follow-up check in three days."
"Okay, thank you."
Hearing this, Nan Xi took a deep breath.
She saw Lu Jianshen's clenched fists finally relax, and those furrowed brows, as deep as mountains, finally eased.
The beloved one, indeed, is different.
He had never been so anxious for her.
Soon, Fang Qinglian was wheeled into the ward.
"Jianshen, I noted down that driver's plate number, he..."
Nan Xi began to speak, intending to tell him about the driver.
But when she turned to her side, it was empty. Lu Jianshen was pushing Fang Qinglian's gurney with one hand and holding her hand tightly with the other, the two of them exuding the image of a loving couple.
And her, she was left forgotten outside the emergency room.
