Chapter 3 - Trying Out Machines

Lilith's expectations of the panel were not large.

The functions of it were to display information via a status function, give tasks, and allow her to level up.

There was also a section for skills which the eidetic memory likely was one of, if she had gone that route.

She was concerned that it would be one of the panels that would be difficult to progress or make use of.

With the appearance stat being the only visible stat, she believed that the system was more looks based with secondary emphasis on money and the like.

However, her worries, at least for the time being were unfounded.

As, when she used the treadmill, she heard a very faint bell-like ring every few minutes.

She checked her status, and it revealed that she was actually gaining experience.

Not much, but she was.

She currently had 3 xp.

After running on the treadmill for a bit longer, she moved to the next machine.

Half an hour later, she decided to try the next machine.

Tried them out on the lowest setting and moved to the next device.

Her attempts in trying the different machines out, while the few people left gave an occasional odd look, she put them out of her mind.

In the middle of her third machine trial, she saw a pleasant sight and heard a even sweeter sound.

[Ding! You have leveled up!]

[ Appearance +0.1 ]

[ Reward Selection Available ]

As she read the message about the appearance, a shudder rang through her body.

The tenseness of her muscles seemed to vanish only to return.

A soft breeze like sensation running across her.

Smiling, feeling re-energized, she redoubled her efforts.

She was certain that her looks changed.

That might be an aspect of the panel and progression that she should be wary of.

It could get her unwanted attention in changing drastically to how she was.

It was fine for now, but going forward, she should actually try to do the home gym idea.

But not because of the fear of being judged.

She disliked the idea of running away.

But cautiousness would help out in the short term.

She already had seen and heard everything in the book.

A temporary measure could be for her to wear a mask.

Seeing the reward selection message, she was glad she could hold off on it.

When she got home, she would be able to relax and take a look at it.

The sharp sound of the panel with a equally sharp message confirming the completion of the task.

She got another Reward Selection to use soon.

At level 2, almost at level 3, she decided that was enough for today.

Her walking more labored.

Her breathing sporadic.

Her arms felt like led.

Her legs felt like iron.

Everything was heavy.

As she walked out to leave, James scoffed before focusing his attention on his tasks.

Shrugging, in a decent mood, Lilith went home.

Soon, she returned to her place.

Throwing her shoes off, she sat on her bed.

Her gaze lifted as her panel information was displayed along with the Reward Selection.

Activating the selection option, she was immediately presented with three options.

...

1.) Enhanced Stamina Recovery | 2.) Height Increase (1 Inch) | 3. Premium Computer

...

Seeing the options, she chortled.

Height was a non-issue. Premium computer although likely quite nice was not essential and almost certainly something that could be purchased with money...

Surely a repeat selectable reward in the future.

With two of the options ruled out, she selected option one, enhanced stamina recovery.

The skill instantly appeared on her status screen.

This would be helpful for her fitness endeavours.

Stretching for a moment, she used the second reward selection.

Three new choices, this time the choice was not so clear cut.

...

1. ) Home Gym Set | 2.) (x1) Reward Lock | 3. Skill Upgrader

...

The home gym set would be good, but like the computer was not unique. The Reward Lock likely let her retain a reward option for the future.

When she was spoiled for choice but no option was particular great, this likely would be far too useful.

Then, there was the skill upgrader to consider.

That was interesting, and though not useful now and kind of wasteful to use it on the newly obtained stamina recovery skill.

If she were to get an awesome skill, an upgraded version may even save her life.

Taking a breath, she settled on the skill upgrader.

Might not be used for a bit, but when she did find a suitable skill, it would only be elevated.

The skill upgrader upon being selected was added to the status, under the inventory section.

Reflecting on the day, she considered her improved appearance.

She had not checked the mirror, so she did not know how much of an impact a 0.1 increase would be.

However, when she went up to the mirror, inspecting herself, she noticed a sizeable change.

Her face still was chubby.

She was on the shorter side, that did not shift.

Her familiar teeth remained yellow, and misaligned.

Her face too, not close to being balanced.

Her ghastly pale complexion still cloaked in acne scars and blemishes.

Her hair wispy and fragile.

Her uneven hairline receded.

Several other small issues remained.

Even so, her tree-bark brown eyes crinkled.

As she saw that the few grey hairs she had gotten early had vanished.

Compared to some aspects, it might not be much, but for her, it was much appreciated.

Her life indeed was starting to turnaround.

She even might get addicted to improving how she looked.

It did improve her mood, seeing herself actually look better.

She went on her computer, browsed the interwebs for a good while, ate, then went to sleep.

The next day, she headed to the gym with extra determination, wearing a hoodie and a grey mask.

Her world was changing, she was changing, and she was not gonna be lazy nor arrogant about this chance.

She was going to make full use of it.

She was gonna level up.

Today, she planned on reaching level 3.
