King Edmond, also known as King Edmond the wisest man on earth, was a man loved by many. He made critical decisions and personally was at the forefront of battles whenever the Kingdom was at war.
He believed resolutions would be made without necessarily engaging in war and crime. He had built his own palace from scratch and directed the old palace to be used by the homeless for shelter.
He was king for ten thousand days and nights, equivalent to twenty seven years and about two months. He ascended the throne not from his father, Lord Edmond Beast I but from King Scardion the ruthless.
He was a noble man born from a noble family that held the Lands of Oldor, in the west of Bernbute and the gateway to the ocean trade. King Scardion had grown fond of him, something that made his father Lord Edmond the first, worry as well as proud, he was stuck in between.
Lord Edmond, King Edmond's father, was the Lord of Oldor as well as the Lord hand of King Scardion the ruthless. Upon his promotion, King Edmond was just but a little boy of fifteen years. He was in the court meetings of the king as the cup bearer and the eyes and ears of the king.
He had shown his wisdom from an early age and King Scardion on his own will, appointed him as the Lord hand of the king after his father was executed by the enemy on the king's bid to negotiate with the Laminites, a great tribe and danger to the throne.
King Scardion discarded all the nominated contestants from all the major families of the Kingdom and settled for a eighteen year old young Lord Edmond the second. This decision was the only decision that the people would later on commend it to be his best decision ever.
See king Scardion was not a great ruler. He committed all kinds of injustices to his people. He ordered that all farm animals and lands to be in his name, any resistance would be termed as treason and the ones responsible would be executed in ways better left unsaid.
He was growing sickly and old and he was yet to have a child. People would gossip that God had punished him for all the things he did to his people. In his final years, the Beasts' were changing him or as people would say, they made him soft.
Despite having over two hundred wives and concubines, he had no heir to his throne, something that further weakend him. It was until the young Edmond walked into his palace that he felt he found a son of his own.
Young Edmond only said and did what the king pleased. He would make decisions on behalf of the king in a way that both the king and the people would benefit. When he was twenty years of age the King Scardion was assassinated by a trader, Mintee.
The trader was believed to have been a witch from the other side of the Kingdom where people feared it to be the underworld. Rumours have it that the trader was one of the people executed by King Scardion, reincarnated as a witch in disguise of a trader.
The Kingdom ironically mourned the death of Scardion the ruthless. Since he had no heirs to the throne, many people were lured to contest for the throne. King Edmond II was one of them. He had enjoyed power as a hand and was eyeing the throne, not only for himself, but for the protection and reputation of his family.
He had messengers send word across the Kingdom that it was King Scardion's wishes that he becomes King. King Scardion's family was immediately arrested and imprisoned on the orders of other Lords including Edmond the wise.
It was a surprise that all the major families were in support of his bid for the throne yet he stole a major position the families strived for when he was just a young boy. He would execute or imprison any person that challenged his quest for the throne until he finally won.
Upon his ascension to the throne, he promised that his rogue days were over and the Kingdom would thrive under his rule. He hired the best men to build him his own palace next to the river Obeth that was later named Edmond after completion of the palace.
Edmond was betrothed to a Lady Silion of the North, in order to repay the noble family of Lord Gert which was the biggest supporter of him being king. Though it was an arranged marriage, the pair grew fond of each other and they later on built a charming family as they were blessed with children; Robin, Arvin, Silion and Nira.
King Edmond ensured that every person thrived in their own ways so long as there was no breach of law he had set from scratch after discarding the laws of Scardion the ruthless.
For about a decade, the Kingdom had not faced any attack or war. Businesses thrived and families grew. He developed reputation and respect. People feared him saying he was a devil in disguise of an angel. He was set to serve the people of Bernbute Kingdom but the things he did to the enemies...
He was the first King on earth to formulate a law that was in favor of the people of his kingdom and not for his own. He would even punish members of his own family including his children according to the directions of the law of his land.
He promoted respect and freedom of expression and religion. He promoted justice and he would encourage his people to adhere to the law. He saw to it that there was no laziness and every worker rewarded according to their amount of dedication and labor.
You would think that he was the best king ever and people would forever want him as King. After twenty seven years as King, he was executed in a wedding ceremony in the land of great Pines in his sleep.
Several guards and guests served as collateral as they went down with him. His children were left in pain and agony as was all the people that benefitted from him. Revenge was aching in their souls. The same war that the Kingdom avoided at all costs, was sounding horns and the king's death saw Bernbute on the verge of self distraction.
