Chapter 1 - The End Of The Semester

In a two story house at the top floor, there was a young boy sleeping in his bed. The boy was in his late teens. He was not too tall but he was well muscled. His hair was long and curly and had a dark brown color. His skin was slightly light. His eyes were a deep emerald color with a slight shade of yellow.

The blankets that were on the boy were half off of him due to him rolling around in his sleep. Suddenly, a woman's voice from downstairs called out to the boy.

Voice: Jason! Jason! It's time to get up!

Jason (sleepily): Ugh…. Alright…..

Jason sat up from his bed still half asleep. His dark brown hair was tangled and sticking out in different directions. His right cheek had an imprint from the sheets due to him pressing his face on it while asleep. He was shirtless and wearing a green flannel pajama bottom.

Jason yawned.

Jason: Why does it have to be morning?

Jason started to stand up from his bed and was about to walk towards his door when his feet got tangled in his sheets and he tripped.

Jason: AHHH!

Jason fell face first onto the floor.

Jason: Ow! God damn it!

Voice: What happened?! Are you okay?!

Jason: I'm fine!

Jason got up and started to head downstairs. When he got there, he walked into the dining room where there were eggs and hash browns presented for him on the table. Across from the table, there was a woman who was finishing her cooking at the stove that was across from the table.

The woman's name was Cynthia Steel. She was very tall and had long straight black hair in a ponytail. She had round hips and slightly muscular arms and legs. She was very beautiful as she had smooth white skin and green eyes. She was wearing a black tuxedo with dress pants and boots. She had an appearance that was a mix between a tomboy and an elegant lady. As she turned around, she put down a plate of food on the table in front of her and sat down. Jason sat down in front of the food that was left for him across from Cynthia.

Cynthia: You better eat up. The big day is approaching?

Jason: Big day?

Cynthia: Test day. Remember?

Jason: Oh. Yeah that.

Cynthia: You did study last night, right?

Jason at first said nothing and looked down at his food. He quietly took a bite of the eggs.

Cynthia (growing suspicious): Jason?

Jason (nervously): I looked at the study guide.

Cynthia (seriously): You looked IN it or did you look AT it?

Jason sighed.

Jason (ashamed): At it…

Cynthia (disappointed): Jason. You need to study for these types of tests if you want to become an Apex Guardian. They are important for this.

Jason (sarcastically): Yeah, because knowing the history of Demonta the Third has everything to do with becoming a guardian.

Cynthia (exasperated): Not this again. I've already told you about the credit system, haven't I?

Jason (signing): Yeah, a bunch of times. It's just that history sucks! Why should I care about what a bunch of dead guys did?

Cynthia: Look, I may be a PE teacher and not a history teacher but I'm still a teacher. This knowledge will help you later in life. Plus you have to have at least a decent AP score just to be a candidate for Guardians.

Jason (to himself): Shit!

Cynthia: Watch your language!

Jason: Sorry.

Cynthia: Being an Apex Guardian requires you to have knowledge on what you're doing. It's more than just strength. You need this if you're going to protect people.

Jason: I know.

Cynthia: Besides, you're a very smart kid. Your grades are high enough to where you don't need to ace it at History. Just shoot for a passing grade.

Jason (cheerful): Alright! I'll give it my best shot!

Cynthia: That's the spirit! But for now, keep studying.

Jason: Still, what does some dead human king from who knows where have to do with being an Apex Guardian?

Cynthia: How should I know?

Jason: So I take it that it's completely irrelevant?

Cynthia: Your food is getting cold.

Jason (starting to eat): Who's fault do you think that is?

Cynthia (annoyed): First of all, I did not tell you not to eat. Second, this all could've been avoided if you just studied like you were told to. Third, you do not speak to your mother like that!

Jason: I'm sorry.

Cynthia sighed.

Cynthia: It's fine.

Cynthia took a bit of her food. She then put her hands on her face and looked down embarrassed.

Jason: What's wrong?

Cynthia: My food's cold….

Jason had a smug look on his face.

Jason: Well Well Well. Someone shouldn't have been lecturing for so long.

Jason took a bite of his food and stopped as he tasted the soft, soggy, cold eggs. Cynthia noticed and stared at Jason.

Cynthia (suspiciously) Something wrong?

Jason felt a shrinking sensation in his stomach as he could now taste irony. Trying not to show it, Jason put down his fork and looked away.

Jason (nervously): You know, I'm actually not that hungry.

Cynthia, who was not falling for Jason's act, stood up and looked down at Jason.

Cynthia (sarcastically): Really? The same boy who can scarf down five meals in one minute isn't hungry?

Jason (nervously): Uh…. Yes?

Cynthia (seriously): Finish your soggy breakfast, chatter mouth.

After Jason reluctantly finished his food, he got ready for the day. He had on a blue hood that was yellow on the inside. The hoodie also has a lightning bolt pattern at the top right on his chest. Jason also had blue jeans and black shoes with blue lightning bolt patterns on them. Jason grabbed his bag and started to head out.

Cynthia: Hold it.

Jason turned around towards Cynthia who was right behind him.

Jason: Yeah?

Cynthia stared at Jason. She then gently held Jason's cheeks and kissed his forehead.

Cynthia: You are such a cutie.

Jason (embarrassed): Come on Mom!

Cynthia: I love you.

Jason (hesitating): Thanks.

Cynthia: What do you say?

Jason (embarrassed): I love you too.

Cynthia (grinning): Alright, see you at PE class.

Jason: Bye!

Jason's legs began to charge with electricity and he jumped high in the air.

Cynthia (calling out): Don't land on any houses again!

Jason: (calling back): I won't!

Despite his looks, Jason is not actually human and neither is Cynthia. In fact, no one in the kingdom of Tempion is a human. They are known as Electrens. A type of Demi-Human that are descendants of Ogres that have evolved to have the ability to generate electricity. While Ogre are normally very big with big horns on their heads, Electrens have evolved to be smaller and more human-like while still maintaining their power.

This young Electren named Jason Steel is working to become an Apex Guardian as he has a passion for helping others. The Apex Guardians are an organization of mercenaries who travel across the world to help others. They are well known across the world of Eternia. Jason, as well as many Electrens at his school, dreams of becoming an Apex Guardian.

As Jason got to his school known as Tempion High, he got to his locker and started taking some books out. Suddenly, a boy approached Jason from behind.

This boy was very large in size. So much so that his shadow completely covered Jason. The boy was very muscular with large arms and broad shoulders. His skin was dark and had black short hair. He wore a black undershirt and a green vest along with dark green cargo pants that reached all the way to his heels. The boy looked very intimidating as he looked over Jason.

Jason: Can I help you Ethan?

Ethan: Perhaps.

Ethan then put his hands together in a way to beg.

Ethan: Can I please borrow your math notes?

Jason: Did you not take notes yesterday?

Ethan: I have math class with that annoying jackass David. I couldn't concentrate.

Jason took out a notebook from his locker.

Jason: Here. It should have everything you need.

Ethan took the notebook and patted Jason on the back heavily.

Ethan (grateful): Thanks pal!

Meanwhile, a tall, slender older man walked by and looked towards Jason and Ethan. The man was pale with wrinkles that curved alongside his cheeks. His eyes were green and had stern eyebrows. This man wore a tight dark blue vest and long pants. He also wore black dress shoes and round glasses. His hair was gray and short. He had a small mustache that curved around the top of his mouth. He seemed very neat and proper. Like a dignified gentleman.

The man: Excuse me young Jason. You wouldn't happen to be giving Ethan your homework would you?

Jason: I'm not. I'm just sharing my notes Mr. Gravin.

Mr. Gravin: Hm, very well. I suppose young Ethan needs the help considering he was focused more on David than the lesson.

Ethan (complaining): David was the one who wouldn't shut up!

Mr. Gravin turned away from the two.

Mr. Garvin: If David was that much of a distraction, why didn't you come talk to me about it?

Ethan: In front of everyone?!

Mr. Gravin: My dear boy, you could've talked to me after class. I would've given you some notes about what we talked about today and switched your seats.

Ethan stopped and realized what Mr. Gravin was saying.

Ethan: Sorry.

Mr. Gravin: Well, now you know next time. For now, the two of you should study.

Jason and Ethan: Yes Mr. Gravin.

Mr. Gravin walked away.

Ethan: Remember when we used to think Mr. Gravin was a jerk?

Jason: Yeah, but then we found out that he is actually a pretty chilled dude.

While Jason and Ethan were talking, someone was sneaking up behind Ethan.

Girl (yelling): HEY GUYS!!!

Ethan (startled): AH!

Ethan jumped and fell on top of Jason.

Behind them was a girl around their age. She had scarlet curly hair that flowed like ribbons. Her eyes were a pale blue and her skin was smooth and clear. She had a few freckles on her cheeks. She was as tall as Ethan's shoulders. She had a noticeably large bosom and round hips. She wore a gray tank top that showed her cleavage and blue jeans that centered around her hips. She was unmistakably attractive and had a cheerful personality.

Ethan (annoyed): Damn it Hana! I hate it when you do that!

Hana giggled.

Hana: You should've seen the look on your face!

Jason (weakly): Ethan….. get off….

Ethan looked down and saw Jason who was underneath him. He was turning red and was struggling to breathe. Ethan immediately got off of Jason and Jason stood up. He was taking deep breaths and his face returned to its normal color.

Ethan: Crap, sorry about that Jason!

Hana: You okay?

Jason (still panting): Yeah, I'm okay.

Voice: You should be careful. Baby elephants weigh a lot.

From behind Jason was a tall and slightly muscular boy. He had slightly tan skin and black hair. His eyes were charcoal black. He wore a black shirt with a skull and crossbones and gray denim jeans that were torn at the knees.

Ethan: What did you just call me?

Hana: David, that's pretty rude you know.

David: What? There's nothing wrong with some helpful advice. I was just looking out for Sparky. Considering how helpless he was.

Jason (annoyed): I thought I made it clear not to call me that.

David (mocking): Aw, is someone upset?

Jason (growing angry): I'm warning you!

David took a step back as he was a bit startled. A drop of sweat dripped down from behind his head. He then stepped forward and scoffed.

David: Like you have any chance at beating me. You're not worth the dirt on my shoe.

Jason: And you're all talk!

David walked past Jason and Ethan and went right to Hana. He then put his arm around her shoulders to get close. Hana looked very uncomfortable and annoyed.

David: I don't understand why someone as hot as you would be hanging out with a bunch of nobodies like those two. Hana baby, you can do so much better.

Hana then smiled and looked towards David. She gave him a seductive look and leaned in closer. Jason and Ethan looked at each other and grinned. They both knew what Hana was planning on doing.

Hana: Wanna know something funny?

David leaned closer to Hana. They both could feel their breath on each other.

David: Yeah? What's funny?

Hana gently tilted David's head to the left and whispered in his ear.

Hana: What's funny is that you don't realize that you are out of your league.

Suddenly, a red string appeared in Hana's hand. As she pulled it, David was suddenly pulled from above and was hanging from his feet.

David: Hey! What the hell?!

Hana: Next time you wanna hit on a girl, respect her boundaries first!

As David hanged from the ceiling, several other students gathered around and saw David as was hanging helplessly from the ceiling.

David (angrily): Get me down now!

Hana: Okay.

Hana let go of the string and David fell from the ceiling and on his face.

David: Ow!

The crowd began to laugh as well as Jason and Ethan who were giggling. David got up and had a red mark on the top of his nose where he fell. He then angrily walked away. As he walked past Jason, he muttered something under his breath. Jason heard him and grabbed David's arm to stop him. The crowd got quiet as everyone was watching.

Jason: You mind repeating that?

David who was still looking ahead looked over to Jason who was giving him an intense look.

David: It wasn't at you. So let go.

Jason (seriously): What did you just say to Hana?

Hana: Say what?

David turned around. Both him and Jason stared at each other intensely. Everyone in the crowd watched silently. Ethan looked at Jason with a concerned look. David took a deep breath.

He the  leaned in closer to Jason's face.

David: I said "Stupid Bitch"!

David's hand suddenly glowed purple and he karate chopped Jason on his hip.

Jason: Argh!

Jason staggered back while holding his hip.

The crowd: Oooooh!

David turned around quickly and walk away. Jason's face turned bright red. He felt his face burn hot. Yellow electricity began to emit from his body.

Jason (angrily): YOU CHEAP SHOTTING ASSHOLE!!!

Jason was about to go after David when Ethan grabbed Jason by the arms and held him back. Jason started thrashing around to get free. Hana got in front of Jason in case he got loose.

Jason (angrily): COME BACK HERE YOU COWARD!!!!

Ethan: Jason! Chill! It's not worth it!

Hana: Calm down!

As David walked down the hall, turned to the left, and was out of sight, Jason stopped thrashing and calmed down. The crowd began to dissipate and Ethan let go of Jason.

Ethan: Dude, I get that David is an asshole but it's not worth fighting him. You can't think straight if you let your anger control you!

Jason (frustrated): I know! But he pisses me off so-

Before Jason could finish, Hana grabbed Jason by his head and hugged him.

Hana: Awww! I can't believe you would get angry for me!

Unknown to Hana, she was pressing Jason's face against her chest. Jason turned red again and started to thrash around again.

Jason (panicking): Hana! Hana! Let go!!!

Hana let go of Jason. His face was bright red however it was out of embarrassment.

Hana: I'll see you guys in PE!

Hana skipped down the hall and turned to the right where she was out of sight.

Ethan: Someone has to tell her.

Jason: Considering it's Hana, I don't think it would change anything.

Ethan: Anyways, you really want to take on David in a fight? Don't forget who his family is.

Jason: Yeah I know. The Atoms. They are all knights. I get that. But the thing is, I look at him and I just don't see him being a knight.

Ethan: Yeah. I guess I would've heard more about him. But he is a Purple Electren and those guys are really good at fighting.

Jason: But I hardly see that guy participate in anything. PE, Battle Studies, Math, Literature, even History and I actually try in that class.

Ethan: Oh yeah, you hate History.

Jason turned around and faced Ethan.

Jason: Seriously, what does a human known as Demonta the Third have to do with anything?

Ethan: I think he had a country that was known for their pickles.

Jason raised his eyebrow.

Jason: Pickles? What are those?

Ethan: I think it's like a type of vegetable the humans have made.

Jason: Oh. So is that all he is known for?

Ethan: Oh wait, I think he also committed filicide.

Jason (realizing): Oh, I guess that makes a little more sense.

Ethan: How does killing a horse make more sense?

Jason (confused): Killing a horse? Dude, filicide means killing your kid.

Ethan: No, it's when you murder a horse.

Jason (confused): Where did you get that from?

Ethan: It was in the History book.

Jason: I think you need to look over it again.

Ethan: You of all people shouldn't tell me that when it's about History.

Jason: That's English dude! Anyways, later in PE, they might do sparring matches so hopefully I will get a chance to show David what for!

Ethan: If they actually do it today and if you get paired up.

As Jason walked off, Ethan looked back at where David had left.

Ethan (thinking): How much longer can you keep that act up David?
