The dark elves looked at me like I had a death wish… they were trying to take a nap and I was looked like I was planning to destroy their base.
"Sorry, guys. False alarm. Carry on."
As one would expect, they didn't like my tone, but soon, I ignored them and decided to check my parameters.

It looked like Fireball consumed ten MP. That wasn't half bad. The only downside was that my MP was only restored by one point after a minute. Even though my system was broken, I couldn't become a magic spammer. Well, it was fine. It would be way too convenient otherwise.
Since I was done with that spell, I decided to study the other skill book, and once again, just reading about it and testing the theories helped me learn it.
(You have unlocked a new skill tree.)
Healing: Improves your skill in healing, protecting yourself or others, and damaging the undead.
Novice Healer
You consume one less MP when using healing spells. (Requires Healing skill tree at Level 01)
The healing spell I learned restored five HP at the cost of ten MP, so the skill would only consume a single MP at rank nine. Maybe that was truly the maximum rank of those skill trees, but it would be too simple to be the case.
Now, I could be slightly more careless, like I wasn't enough considering my HP's low. Anyway, I could survive some minor wounds now. That should be more accurate.
"I suppose the legends are true; your family truly has some fearsome powers. Healing magic isn't something that a lot of people can learn…"
Diran looked pretty astonished when he approached. He tried to look like he had been sleeping, but he was watching me the whole time. He couldn't have been more creepy if he had tried.
"Even though you have a book like this lying around?"
"The books are pretty cheap because few people can learn them. At the same time…"
Diran pointed to the books, and then I saw the images on their covers and the letters inside them vanishing. That was odd and very creepy, too.
"They vanish after they are used like that. Only mages who know those spells are of a certain rank and have some skills can rewrite them, but mages are well sought after in many fields. Some rich families even have their own for protection and for other utilities."
Those guys who attacked the place when I was about to be burned probably worked for my family… the royal family. It was impressive that they had that much loyalty since they obviously died thanks to their intervention. The fact that I didn't find pursuers until the next day proved that.
"... I will teach you some tricks tomorrow; for now, you should rest."
When I began to relax, I also noticed the exhaustion in my body. It made sense that I felt like that. So many things were happening so fast, and it was kind of hard to deal with and absorb all of that, even though I had confidence in my adaptability.
I didn't even realize when I fell asleep, but I woke up when I began to smell fresh bread and milk. It looked like some of the guys who worked in the hideout had brought breakfast alongside some pieces of information. Diran was eating while receiving a report when he saw me waking up and then called me to join them. There wasn't much bread and milk for six people, so I wondered if it was fine to accept the offer.
"The others already ate and left, so don't contain yourself."
In the end, I just nodded and then began to eat. I was truly hungry, after all. Going through puberty again wasn't easy, and it didn't agree with the life of a runaway criminal either.
"We received the information that our brothers and sisters are going to be executed tomorrow at sunset, so we don't have as much time as we had expected."
"What is the plan then?"
I was hoping that the plan wouldn't require invading a town with our numbers only. The best option seemed to be to cause havoc and then a diversion while others freed the dark elves. When I thought of that, I immediately sighed since I finally realized that I was the best bait possible.
"If you are thinking what I am thinking, you will have to try really hard to convince me of that when we just joined forces."
"Understandable. Since we will be counting on you, we will pay you already, all in order to increase your chances of escaping."
Diran passed to me a backpack with a weird light blue glow around it. I could tell that it was a magic item. Checking its information only confirmed that… it was a lot more useful than I had expected.
Magic Back(Uncommon)
Durability: 10/10
Effects: Magic Weight Rank 03 +
The bag was essentially as light as a feather, but when I opened it, I saw a bunch of potions inside. I only saw three at first, but as I kept taking them out, more kept coming until I had ten of each. Ten HP potions, ten MP potions, and ten STA potions.
"You can store up to fifty kilograms there and don't feel any weight on it. The potions are a countermeasure to ensure that you will survive. They are of low quality, though, restoring twenty points each, but it is better than nothing."
It increased my chances a fair bit, but considering the situation, I was expecting something more offensive for combat. Maybe I should try to work as a sniper this time and keep all the enemies at a distance.
"We can pay you some coin once the rescue is completed."
"I will see what I can do. Anyway, is the plan to use me only as bait?"
"No, you just need to cause a bit of havoc while we escape during the night. We don't want you to be followed. So, you will have to hide in the town and wait until morning for us."
"Wait, where, exactly?"
"In the dungeon where my brothers and sisters are."
