Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 - Attack

I walked around the town for a bit and then checked some shops as well, but soon, they closed mid-afternoon, and a lot of people began to close their homes to check the execution as well. That decreased the number of places where I could kill time.

I wanted to check the dungeon at the last minute since I saw more guards close to that part of the town, but maybe I didn't have much of a choice. I just walked around the area and looked closely at the surroundings. It didn't feel like it was going to rain, and since the houses were all made of brick, I didn't have to worry about causing some innocent deaths.

After I had good luck with my surroundings, I wondered why I was worrying about that kind of thing. I was pretty more selfish before, and after almost dying a bunch of times, it would make sense if I went whole bananas for a while.

'Maybe Leon Maxwell is affecting me… it isn't like I have his memories, but sometimes this body moves rather too well considering that it isn't mine.'

It wasn't like I needed some time for rehab… Regardless, thinking about all that was useless. I just had to focus on what I could and wanted to do. There was no point in making more enemies, and that was logical, after all.

Before long, I found an alley that was close enough to the center of the town and climbed the walls before reaching the roof. From there, I could jump from building to building and then try to buy time for Diran and the others.

After thinking for a while, I looked at the center of the town and saw a large group of people surrounding the platform. There were no longer as many guards there as before, and no one was looking around for possible troublemakers. That couldn't be right…

'They must be hidden among the population in order to get more dark elves. Oh, man… I don't want to make too many enemies, but I am making them right now since they will spread fake rumors about me.'

Before long, I saw a small group of guards approaching from the other side of the town, and then I saw their headquarters in the distance. It seemed that it was time for the attack. That was a bit troublesome since it was still early, and I would have to run for one hour before it got dark enough to escape their eyes in the darkness.

It couldn't be helped… I grabbed some magic potions from my backpack alongside my bow and arrows. Diran gave me some extra quivers, but it wasn't nearly enough to kill one hundred guards. Regardless, I just had to cause as much chaos as possible.

After looking around for a bit, I found some targets that I could use. After that, I took a deep breath and then began to focus as much as possible… when I felt myself as ready as I could be, I pointed my hands at the wooden platform and then launched the fireballs toward it.

Fortunately, it looked like aiming was my strong point now… even though the fireballs fell in an arc and I didn't consider that, they still hit the wooden platform and began to burn immediately. The consecutive explosions caught everyone off guard, and then fell with their butts on the ground as they protected their heads… the flames started to spread insanely fast thanks to the good wood.

When my magic was emptied, I began to drink two potions as I jumped down from the building. Before running, I could hear some shouts from the guards. They were good.

"He is in the south! It is a hooded person!"

I only attacked for one second and a half, and they found me… no point in messing out with those who make a living by fighting and being ready to fight. I moved north toward their headquarters and then stopped after passing by the front of a shop. Before long, I could hear the sound of metallic footsteps approaching… from two directions. The guards dealing with the prisoners were coming for me as well.

The first group to get close was the one from the center of the town, and soon, they saw me leaving my cover. They grabbed their weapons and got ready to fight, and soon raised their swords when they saw my hands glowing with fire. Still, while I fired two projectiles toward them, I aimed at the wooden stall on their side. Some boxes and barrels were hit and exploded on them.

I saw the guards groaning and getting up… they didn't die, but it looked like I didn't have to kill them to gain experience. Nevertheless, I had planned to finish the job, so soon, several arrows flew at them and pierced their bodies. The armor of those guys wasn't that good since my arrows pierced them with relative ease.

Four guards fell to the ground and didn't move back. The others soon took cover in the nearby buildings, and I drove south when I saw more enemies coming from the guards' headquarters. Things had barely started, and I was already feeling my heart in my throat.

Once I found an ally, I got inside and then disappeared from the enemy's sight. They followed me only to find the place empty. They looked around, shouting in anger, but a quick search in the area would have revealed me on the roof of one of the buildings ahead.

'That is what you get from moving around with heavy armor… you don't even think of climbing buildings.'

Most of the guards were humans, but some of them soon would catch my smell. I couldn't slack off too much. Still, it looked like Diran and the others were doing a good job, too… some loud explosions were echoing in the town.

'My turn."

I got up from my hideout and then drank some potions and used Fireballs on the stalls of some shops around the area. The explosions in the area made the guards search for me in many spots. Some guards in the distance tried to inform the others of the attack in the dungeon, but my noise stopped them.

Once I heard the sound of the guards shouting in anger, I moved to the southern side of the town and then hit again at the roof of a random building. My eyes scanned the surroundings for the location of some of the guards who seemed more troublesome, and I found them thanks to their large physiques…

The beastmen guards, as if they had sensed my desire to kill them, turned around and saw me on the roof of a random building… Still, two of them were hit in their chests before they could do anything. Still, the final one stopped my arrow with his forearm and still glared at me.

'I would have cried like a little girl with an arrow in my arm, dude.'
