Chapter 63 - Some Country Bumpkins

The van finally rolled to a stop, and the Seiryuu High flag football team tumbled out, their excitement palpable. The sprawling Makuhari Messe stood before them, an imposing structure of glass and steel that shimmered in the morning light. They were greeted by a scene of bustling activity as teams from all corners of Japan gathered for the Flag Football Regionals.

As they entered the grand lobby, the sight was overwhelming, well, not too overwhelming for Sota but to everyone else, it was— to the point that they could feel shivers run up and down their spines.

Animatedly, teams in various uniforms chatted in high spirits, their voices creating a hum of anticipation. Posters and banners adorned the walls, showcasing the event's grandeur. The lobby was a hive of activity, filled with the buzz of excited athletes, coaches, and spectators.

"Look at all these teams!" Daichi exclaimed, his eyes wide with wonder. He and Kazuma, along with Daigo, took in the scene, noting the sheer number of participants.

Ryuji, eyes sparkling with mischief, was about to make a beeline toward a group of female players whose uniforms seemed to have a touch of glamour. His gaze was fixed on one particular girl, clearly captivated.

"All right, here we go." Ryuji said as he mustered all his courage to go up to the girl who had blond curly hair and snow white skin. Her deep yellow irises seemed to reflect light, attracting Ryuji like a moth to a flame.

"Hold up, Ryuji!" Kazuma barked, grabbing his friend's shoulder. "We're here to focus on the qualifiers, remember?"

"Yeah, man," Daigo added, his grip firm. "Let's keep it together." Daigo called out as well, getting a firm grip on Kazuma's leg so he won't take another step.

Despite their efforts, Ryuji shot a longing glance back at the group of girls, clearly torn between his desire to impress and his commitment to the team. His friends' stern expressions and the collective shuffling of the group eventually snapped him back to reality.

Meanwhile, Kaminari, always the knowledgeable one, took the opportunity to educate his teammates about the competition they were up against. He pulled out a small notebook, flipping to a page marked with scribbled notes and sketches of rival teams.

"Alright, listen up," Kaminari said, his voice cutting through the noise. "Two of the notable teams we'll face are Hokuto High and Shinryu Academy."

The team gathered around Kaminari, their attention focused.

"Hokuto High," Kaminari continued, "is known for their aggressive style of play. They've been top contenders for years and have a strong lineup of players."

Koenji raised an eyebrow. "Aggressive, huh? Sounds like we're in for a challenge."

"Shinryu Academy," Kaminari went on, "is another team to watch. They're more about strategy and precision. Their defensive line is nearly impenetrable. Keep an eye on their defensive captain, Kenta Yoshida. He's known for his exceptional tackling skills."

Sota, listening intently, nodded. "Sounds like we'll need to be on top of our game."

As Kaminari finished his overview, the lobby began to fill with murmurs and whispers from the other teams. The Seiryuu High group, still trying to acclimate to the scene, couldn't help but overhear various comments.

"Who are those guys?" one team member said, their voice laced with curiosity and disdain.

"They don't even look like they belong here."

"Seiryuu High? Never heard of them," another commented, their tone skeptical.

"They don't even have a coach."

"What a bunch of country bumpkins. I bet they're only here for the sightseeing."

A particularly biting remark came from a group of players in sleek, professional-looking uniforms. They sneered at Aiko, who was trying to coordinate her team. "Did you see that? Their manager is pretty, but the team looks like country bumpkins."

Sota noticed the disparaging comments and felt a surge of frustration. He turned to his teammates, seeing their expressions of discomfort. The pressure of the environment was starting to weigh on them, and their confidence wavered.

"Hey," Sota said, raising his voice to be heard over the din. "Forget about what they're saying. We've worked too hard to let this get to us."

The team turned to Sota, their expressions slowly shifting from unease to determination. Sota's eyes were fierce with resolve.

"We're here because we've earned it," he continued, his voice steady. "No matter what they say, we know our worth. Let's show them what Seiryuu High is made of."

The team exchanged nods of agreement, their spirits lifted by Sota's words.

With a rallying cry, Aiko stepped forward, her voice strong and clear. "Alright, everyone! On three—One, two, three—Seiryuu High!"

The cheer rang out, a mixture of enthusiasm and determination. Some of the other teams glanced over, their expressions a mix of curiosity and surprise.

Just as the cheer died down, an announcement echoed through the lobby. The sound of a loudspeaker crackled to life, filling the space with a clear, authoritative voice.

"Attention, all teams. It is time to prepare and warm up for the qualifiers. Please proceed to your designated fields for the preliminary activities."

The announcement cut through the noise, and the team began to move toward the designated area. The atmosphere shifted from tension to action, and the Seiryuu High group felt a renewed sense of purpose.

They followed the signs and the flow of other teams, heading toward the warm-up area. The lobby, once buzzing with idle chatter, now felt charged with focused energy. Each step brought them closer to their moment of truth, and the excitement was almost tangible.

As they made their way through the stadium corridors, the hum of the crowd and the sound of footsteps reverberated off the walls. The field lay ahead, a vast expanse of green surrounded by bright lights and the echoing cheers of spectators.

Sota, Aiko, Ryuji, Kaminari, Koenji, Daichi, and the rest of the team moved with a purpose, their earlier anxieties replaced by the anticipation of the game. The preliminary activities would be their chance to warm up and prepare, and each member of the team knew that every moment counted.

With their spirits high and their focus sharpened, the Seiryuu High team approached the field, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. The regional qualifiers were about to begin, and they were determined to make their mark.
