Harry Potter, The Jedi That Would Not Die
Chapter 3 – A Grave Occurrence
"Ladies and gentlemen, the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament is about to begin! Let me remind you how the points currently stand! Tied in first place, with eighty-five points each - Mr. Cedric Diggory and Mr. Harry Potter, both of Hogwarts School!" The applause was so loud birds took flight in fear. "In second place, with eighty points - Mr. Viktor Krum, of Durmstrang Institute!" More applause. "And in third place - Miss Fleur Delacour, of Beauxbatons Academy."
Qui-Gon and Aayla were sitting in one of the top boxes with the professors that were not patrolling the maze, Obi-Wan had been invited to sit with Hermione, Ron (who had made up with Harry just before the last task), a couple of Ron's family members and a large black animal they called a dog who was very well behaved. They had thought the young jedi might want to get away from a box full of people (with the exception of Aayla) who were at least twice his age and be with people in his own age group.
As the whistle went for Harry and Cedric to enter the maze a cheer went up from the crowd.
"Who's the favourite to win?" he asked.
"Well if you ask us," replied Hermione, "We would obviously say-"
"Harry of course," contributed Ron.
"Quite," continued Hermione. "But the best odds are on Cedric I believe, it's anyone's guess who will get to the middle first but Cedric has the same amount of time to search as Harry and of course he has the advantage of more experience."
Despite all the hype about this event there was actually very little to see, the most they could see from the stands was the occasional move of a hedge or the screen or roar of an animal.
Using his force powers Obi-Wan closed his eyes and focused on the direction of the maze and decided to see what he could pick up, he could feel the four contestants as well as several creatures in the maze, but there was something else, something clouded but also cold. What worried Obi-Wan was that it matched his masters description of what the Dark Side felt like.
Using the master padawan bond he called to Qui-Gon.
Master
I know Obi-Wan, we both feel it to. I have spoken to one of the Professors, he is going to go down and relay the message to the Headmaster and the other professors but I don't think he really believed us. Knight Secura is currently very worried about this and I'm having to physically hold her down to stop her going into the maze after young Harry, continue to search for the source of the darkness, let me know if you feel anything more definite or distinctive.
"Obi-Wan, are you ok?" asked Hermione, looking at him concerned.
"I was just communicating with my master; we can all feel a dark presence somewhere nearby but we can't pin it down."
"Oh no, not again," groaned Ron. "We knew it was going to happen but I wanted to actually believe Harry had escaped a life threatening situation this year."
"What was that Ron?" asked one of his family who he had been introduced to as Bill.
"Harry's in trouble again," he replied.
Bill looked worried for a moment before standing and heading towards the steps.
"I will go and let the professors know."
"My master had already got another professor to go and tell them," explained Obi-Wan.
"Then I will go and be an extra man on the ground in case anything goes wrong," he stated not stopping.
Just as he said that a scream filled the area, causing him to stop dead and stare worryingly at the maze.
"That was Fleur!" he said worriedly before doubling his speed down to the pitch.
Everyone waited worriedly for the next sign from the maze. There were some brief spell flashes followed a minute later by a masculine yell.
"Which one of them was that?" asked Hermione worriedly.
"It's not Krum," explained Ron "His voice is deeper and I don't think its Harry's either so it must be Cedric."
Just as they finished speaking red sparks were launched from the maze.
"One of them has given up," stated Hermione. "I do hope they're alright."
"The professors are going in now."
Again there was a couple of minutes of silence and quiet wondering as they waited to see who would be brought out. It turned out to be Krum and Fleur who were both unconscious.
"There was only one set of sparks, how comes they were both got out?" asked Ron.
"They must have found one when looking for the other," explained Hermione.
Obi-Wan who had been remaining quite so as to better enable him to focus on the Force then felt a brief surge before the two remaining presences in the maze just vanished.
"They're gone," he stated confused.
"Who are?" asked Hermione.
"Harry and Mr Diggory, they're no longer in the maze."
"How is that possible, you can't apparate inside of Hogwarts and their isn't a- A portkey, it must be, there's nothing else that can just pull them out of the grounds like that."
Master!
I know Obi-Wan, Secura and I are already on our way down towards the pitch, meet us there.
"I have to go," he explained, getting up.
"Go? Go where?" asked Hermione.
"I don't know but my master has a plan," he stated moving away.
"Were coming with you," called Hermione getting up as she and the others including the dog started after him.
They arrived at the pitch a split second after Qui-Gon and a frantic Aayla.
"Headmaster?" asked his master as they arrived. "At any point during this task are the contestants supposed to leave the maze?"
"No," he replied confused. "Why do you ask?"
"Because the last two contestants just disappeared, we can no longer sense them."
"Are you sure they're not just unconscious?"
"We would be able to detect that, they are just gone," replied Aayla slightly panicked.
"Professors!" Dumbledore shouted. "We have an emergency, clear all the hedges and the obstacles now!"
While Dumbledore and the other professors started vanishing the hedges, Hermione began to pace and became more and more worried.
"I can't stand the waiting, where could he be?"
"We can find out," replied Aayla.
"What! How?"
"I put a tracking device on Harry, we should be able to detect where he gone from the ship."
"Captain," Qui-Gon called, touching his wrist communicator. "Get back to the ship at once and prepare for takeoff and low level flight."
"Yes sir," came the reply as they took off running, he was aware of Ron, Hermione and the dog running behind them and the shouts from some of the others demanding to know where they were going.
The ship took less than five minutes to power up and take off, Hermione, Ron and the dog only seemed to experience the wonder of this futuristic place for a few seconds before their concern returned.
They followed the tracking signal for several minutes, rapidly flying over trees and rivers, they had to fly higher when the left the area surrounding Hogwarts and passed over the Muggle settlements but when they got within a mile of the ship they rapidly began descending towards the side of a dark house.
"Look there!" called the Captain, pointing out through the glass at something on the ground which everyone then tried to have a look at.
A midst a circle of cloaked figures a golden dome was flicking and through it could just be made out the shape of two figures one of whom was definitely Harry.
"That's him," called Aayla. "Quickly lower the ramp and put us down."
"Yes Knight Secura," confirmed the Captain as everyone else poured out of the cockpit and headed for the ramp.
They passed low over the dome, when they got within fifty feet of the ground Aayla and the other Jedi all jumped out of the ship, using the Force to allow them to land safely, while the ship came down behind them allowing the others to run to join them, including members of the crew with blasters.
The dome of light was very much still alive and the two inside seemed to be locked in some sort of battle of wills, but that did not stop the cloaked figures from reacting.
"Kill them, they're only the Muggles from Hogwarts," came the order as curses started to fly their way, none of the wizards or witches expected the ignition of three lightsabers and they briefly paused as the first volley of spells was either dodged or deflected away.
"Keep firing, don't let them get close."
Another barrage followed the first one, this one continued forcing the Jedi onto the defensive, not letting them get close enough to attack, they were not used to shielding spells and others being able to reflect attacks back at them as well, which meant they were all fighting in unfamiliar territory, one spell must have bounced at least five times before dissipating.
They were soon relieved though when the crew and the wizards came up behind them and started sending spells back, a brief shock occurred to Aayla and the others when the dog charged forward, snarled and turned into a scruffy looking wizard.
"Wormtail you pathetic excuse for a human being, fight me now so that I can kill you for what you put me and Harry through."
"Sirius," shouted Hermione from behind them. "Be careful."
"Don't worry Hermione," he replied calmly, walking straight between the Jedi and circling around them, barely dodging the curses that were flying passed him as he circled on the cloaked figure he recognised.
"Let him deal with him Miss Granger," stated Qui-Gon as he managed to reflect a spell so that it collided with a cloaked figure who dropped to the ground. "We can deal with the rest,"
"Stop them you fools," shouted one of them as the barrage against them intensified.
The group managed to hold their own, neither group lost more than a couple of people, the cloaked figures succumbing to rebounded curses or blaster fire and three of the crew got hit by spells that they did not evade in time.
Things took a sudden turn for the worse though when one of the cloaked figures fired a spell at the jedi's feet. None of them bothered to block it as it was obviously going to miss but as it impacted it caused an explosion which created a small crater and knocked Qui-Gon off his feet long enough for another spell to get through and take him down.
"Get him back," shouted Aayla as she and Obi-Wan moved to fill the gap, she drew her second lightsaber to allow her to cover my angles of fire at once but now they were in trouble. They were on the defensive and their numbers were down with several of their number having to back out of the fight in order to help pull back the injured. Aayla did not dare use the Force, she would not have the time for a proper levitation and a throw on this rocky ground was too dangerous for unconscious friends.
All of a sudden the bright light from the dome that had been illuminating the graveyard went out as it dissipated.
"Harry!" shouted Hermione and Aayla at the same time as the boy in question ran towards an odd shape that was lying on the ground.
It took Aayla a second or two to realise that it was the body of the other champion. Briefly using the Force, she felt for his presence and sensed that he was dead.
"Harry, he's gone, you can't protect him anymore!" she shouted but he didn't seem to hear her as the other figure from the sphere rounded on him. He was hideous, and from someone who has seen dozens of galactic species that was quite an achievement. His face looked like his features had been worn down, his eyes were deep and malevolent and he exuded an aura so dark that Aayla could feel it even without her Force abilities.
"Potter, now you will die, but not until I make your friends suffer for trying to ruin my resurrection."
With that he turned and started firing a huge string of spells at the group who had retreated as far as a pair of large gravestones which they were using as cover along with the jedi's lightsabers.
The fight has been split into four areas; in the centre was the dark creature and his entourage firing spells outwards, on one side was Harry still standing over the body of the other champion looking exhausted and spending most of his time just dodging curses from the couple of robed figures that were firing his way, on a third side were the depleted force of Jedi and their allies who were stuck behind the gravestones and on the last side a way off to their right was Sirius and Wormtail stuck in their own little war.
Aayla was getting increasingly frustrated, fights with Jedi were normally quick or at least the combatants were always changing but this was very different, the Jedi were stuck on the defensive due to the lack of forces with them who would rapidly have become overwhelmed if the pair of them tried to use standard Jedi tactics and get in amongst them to overcome them.
The battle took a sudden down turn though when the dark one spotted the separate duel off to his left and smiled and directed one of his men over to them.
She watched helpless as the man drew close to the man and (currently) the dog trying to tear his throat out.
"Sirius look out!" came Hermione's cry from behind her. she briefly turned in time to see Ron charge away from the group towards them.
"Ron, no!" she shouted, but too late.
Harry watched helpless as time seemed to slow down. The curses flying around him seemed to fly slower as he watched one of his best friends charge towards his only remaining family.
He watched as Ron threw up a shield a second before the spell that would have taken Sirius's head off bounced off it.
He internally breathed a sigh of relief as he instinctively leaned out of the way of a curse coming his way, only to see a flash of green as a curse impacted Ron's side and his face went blank.
He remained standing for a second before his legs seemed to collapse out from under him and his best friend dropped to the ground...dead.
He barely registered the scream of anguish from Hermione when she saw their friends life end, he was only aware of the hole that had been ripped open inside of him and the echoing laugh of Voldemort at what he had just done.
He stood unmoving for what seemed like an eternity before something inside him turned from sorrow to a raging fury. His mind blocked out everything except those in front of him and their leader standing at the centre laughing at his deceased best friend. He who had killed his parents, who was responsible for over a decade of slavery at the hands of the Dursley's, he who had hunted and tried to kill him on several different occasions and he who had now just ripped one of the best parts of his life away from him.
He who would now die.
Harry raised his wand.
Aayla was watching in desperation, the battle was falling apart, they were down several people, Hermione was having to be restrained from running to Ron by one of the crew members, two of theirs were definitely dead and she and Obi-Wan were tiring with all the spells they had deflected. They had taken down a few of their enemies but not enough, they could not hold out much longer.
All seemed as good as lost when...
BANG
A huge explosion emanated from the back of the group of clocked figures, knocking several off their feet.
"What in the Force!" she exclaimed as another blast landed, causing her and almost every other person in the graveyard to turn to investigate the source of the explosion.
Out of the corner of her eye she caught sight of a flying spell that she traced back to its source, it was Harry, but not the Harry she was familiar with.
Standing tall with his wand held out in front of him, the end of which was launching spells like a turbo-blaster firing. Each spell that landed on the ground or on an enemy shield caused a small explosion which either send people flying or collapsed the shield.
With her Force abilities Aayla could feel the power radiating off him, the emotions were so strong with anger and hate that she almost flinched away from it.
One of Master Yoda's favourite lessons ran through her head.
Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
And right now Harry was very strong with anger and hate as the ferocity of his attacks was demonstrating.
"Stop him you fools," shouted the enemy leader.
But his words were useless, Harry's attacks were so devastating that the enemy forces did not stand a chance.
"Quickly move in," she shouted, as she and Obi-Wan rand forward to allow them to use their lightsabers in close quarters for the first time. "Don't kill them Obi-Wan," she warned, seeing him pull back an attack and instead of taking off an enemies legs turned down the power and merely cut the surface tissue causing the figure to crumble to the ground.
It took less than thirty seconds for the rest of the cloaked figures to go down, either unconscious, incapacitated or surrendered at the end of a blaster or lightsaber until only the dark one remained, but he in a moment of genius had summoned Sirius, who was once again a dog, though he seemed to have a bloodied tail of a rodent stuck between two of his teeth, to him and was now holding a blade to his throat while the wide eyed dog looked panicked at the situation.
When everyone realised he was the only one left they all froze, including Harry whose expression remained the same for many seconds before slowly seeming to return to a more controlled manner, no longer was he the rage filled uncontrolled behemoth of power, now he was just a furious and very physically and mentally ruined boy.
"That's better," snarled the dark creature. "Now, this is what's going to happen, the mutt here, Harry and I are going to leave and the rest of you are not going to follow us or else I will rip his throat open."
"Do you really think we will let you do that Voldemort," spat out Hermione, who had turned her anguish into distraught rage that was only being prevented from being released by one of the crew having to use an awful lot of force to restrain her.
"Silence Mud-Blood," shouted Voldemort. "Potter, drop your wand now and come with me or your pet animal gets it."
Harry seemed to pause for a fraction of a second before throwing his wand in the Jedi's direction and slowly walking towards them.
"Good boy Harry, now follow me up to the house. The rest of you stay here and don't even think of taking that overgrown metal broom of yours after us, because if I even see it leave the ground the mutt here will lose a lot of blood. Come Harry."
He started walking backwards towards the house, carrying the weight of Sirius and with Harry walking unarmed along in front of him.
Aayla and the others were desperately trying to think of a way to separate them when one of the unconscious cloaked figures made it for them.
Voldemort tripped over the man and fell backwards towards the ground, bringing his hands back as he did, including the one holding the blade to Sirius's throat which ripped into his neck as they both dropped to the ground. Sirius let out a half cry as he fell, transforming back into his human form as he crumpled to the floor.
Acting quickly Aayla used the Force to summon Harry's wand to her.
"Harry," she shouted throwing it at him.
Catching it out of the air the boy instantly brought it around.
"This is for Ron, Avada Kedavra!" there was a flash of green as the spell left his wand and impacted the chest of the downed Voldemort who stopped moving instantly.
Harry and the others immediately moved to Sirius and turned him over. Blood was gushing from his throat as he stared upwards in shock.
"Sirius," cried Harry terrified of what he was seeing. "Sirius stay with me, don't do this to me, I can't lose you too."
"So-rry Harry," he gasped as the others tried to stop the bleeding. "But I think old Padfoot's had it this time."
"No!" Harry shouted. "No I need you, you can't leave me, please."
"Ne-ver forget," he gasped, taking the boys shaking hand. "I love you Ha-rry. I'll say hi to James and Lily for you."
The man shook once more and gave a last gasp before going still, his head rolling to the side.
"Sirius!...Sirius!...please..." Harry pleaded.
There was silence for several seconds as everyone stared at the ground, Sirius or Harry before Harry's sobs turned to hard angry breaths.
In a flash of movement he grabbed one of the lightsabers off of Aayla's belt, rapidly found the on switch, moved over to Voldemort's body and began stabbing the living day lights out of it.
Everyone watched stunned as Harry's rage rapidly changed and his stabbing slowed down and with one final stab straight through Voldemort's face broke down in tears. Dropping to his knees he dropped the lightsaber and was just in time to be caught by Aayla who went over and pulled him into a fierce hug.
He buried his head in her shoulder and openly threw out his anguish pain and sorrow as he clung to the young Jedi like his life depended on it which mentally it may well have done.
AUTHORS NOTE: Now how honestly thought I was going to do that in chapter 3?
Firstly I would like to apologize in advance for something and offer some advice to any HP authors out there, DONT start a story any time before the end of book 5 as its VERY difficult as there is no prophecy yet, no DA, no Umbridge, no Luna (who I think is one of the best characters), no knowledge of what happened to Neville's parents. The amount of times in these first few chapters that I wrote something then had to rewrite it because I put something in that had not happened yet was ridiculous, I should have moved this whole fight to the end of book 5 at the Ministry, but that was my mistake and now I have to live with it.
Secondly in response to a review were someone pointed out that when Obi-Wan hacked the Web and anything connected to it, that he seemed to find out everything they would need in a matter of seconds when it should have taken hours. Well I agree that if we were using our modern day technology that it would indeed take days or at least hours to find out everything I described about Earth, but I submit that if they can fit ship specs, a complex personality, all the star charts and hyperspace links for the known galaxy in an astromech droid no bigger than a dustbin and that that droid can then do the billions of calculations that are required to safely traverse hyperspace in a matter of seconds that it would not take a computer for a ship the size of the Radiant VI which is a consular cruiser (105 meters long) which is what we see the jedi arrive on at the beginning of the Phantom Menace (and anyone clever enough to realise that that ship is called the Radiant VII well done) that long to search through the web and determine the information gathered, especially as the computer is likely to have algorithms built into it designed to seek out specific bits of information like those stated that would aid any ambassadors or jedi in the continuation of their mission. But then again as we don't have that technology we really don't know but it's the best answer I can give you.
