Rinse and repeat everyday, its a never ending cycle of life in the USA, but my life was all about to change when 'it' appeared.
***
The same routine everyday.
"When is this going to be over!" In the area where the voice was heard was a average man. His face was average, his body, height, everything was the definition of average. His eyes had bags and his brown hair was short, almost nonexistent.
He was laying in his bed and had just turned his alarm clock off. He got up and stretched.
"Just another day of work."
He didn't stop until he got to the kitchen of his small apartment consisting of a bedroom, bathroom, small living room, and a small kitchen. The paint on the walls were peeling and holes littered the walls. Everything about the apartment gave off the feeling that whoever lived there was not making much money.
The man fired up the right front corner burner of his stove, the others didn't work, and scrambled some eggs while watching some videos on his phone. Next to the stove was a picture of three people, a child and his parents. Every time the man's eyes would catch a glimpse of the picture his already foul mood would worsen.
He ate quickly and brushed his teeth before lacing up his running shoes and going to head out the door, but as he walked through the door he failed to notice the lack of an outside and that his doorframe had turned into a milky white portal.
The next thing he knew he was in an unknown cave. His face filled with panic and his mind raced trying to make sense on the supernatural situation.
'Where am I?'
'How did I get here?'
His mind wouldn't have stopped computing if not for an unknown blue screen that appeared in front of him.
[Welcome to the Tutorial!]
There was a monotonous voice in his head the voiced the words he was reading from the screen.
[You have been selected to become a defender for the earth realm.]
[The only way to get out of your situation is to complete the quests given to you by the almighty System. Which is me, of course.]
The last few were words were said in a playful tone by the otherwise flat voice.
Panic, worry, and shock controlled his face without his knowledge.
[As a simple introduction to the System, think of the word 'Status' in your head and it will show you necessary information for your journey through this adventure.]
He couldn't help but feel that the word adventure was not used in the right context. He did as the System told him and proceeded to think of the word status, as he did another screen appeared in front of him this time in was a simple matte black background with white words.
[Name: Thorne Jones]
[Age: 20]
[Rank: Common]
[Skills - Aura Control (Common)]
[Innate Skill - Aura Master (Mythic) - Aura Fragments - (0/1000)]
[Items - Dagger (Common)]
Thorne looked at his status swiftly looking through the list and as he read the simple words his mind was filled with more information about what each section meant and what it did. From this information he learned that the ranks of the System and from Common to Uncommon to Rare to Epic to Legendary. The only problem with that is his innate skill, which is a skill that is unique only to him is not of any rank classification mentioned. He could feel however that the rank was higher than that of Legendary.
His thoughts were once again interrupted by another blue screen.
[Now that you are introduced to the System it is about time for you to clear the tutorial, a mission will be given to you to follow. Good Luck!]
The message was followed by another screen
[Mission: Tutorial]
[Description: Clear the tutorial and do not die.]
[Reward: ???]
[Punishment for Failure: Death]
His mind ended up in another frenzy after reading through the new information, but for some reason all this did was make him excited. After living a life of hard work in factories and other dangerous jobs from the age of 16, because of his parents death, he was finally able to do something that wasn't work and even if he failed he wouldn't have to go back to work.
His mind glanced at his Innate Skill and he finally thought his luck had turned around. It was like he was in one of the web comics that he had read as a kid.
Aura Master - Description: Aura is in every living creature sometimes it is also known as willpower, it is one of the three dominant features that keep creatures balanced. The user of the skill is able to feel his own aura and those around him. Although it is unknown just why the current user has obtained such a skill the [error] will be watching closely.
Properties: Aura Control, (Locked), (Locked), ... ...
The description had him confused and the the error that was in the description made him feel sick to even look at. Thorne realized that his innate skill had 8 more locked properties which he assumed were also skills like Aura Control, but the only way to unlock them was level up his Aura Master perk through obtaining Aura Fragments which he was not sure how to get.
His Aura Control skill allowed him to use his aura to enhance himself or his weapon.
After understanding his situation his dismissed his status and observed the area in which he was in.
The cave was just a long straight tunnel for as long as he could see lit up by some type of glowing moss which littered the walls of the cave and allowed him to see. Thorne summoned his Dagger from the items section of his status. It was just a simple metal dagger that had a small square guard that separated his hand form the blade.
Thorne with nothing left to do decided to head towards down the long cave.
