Chapter 14 - Needle in a haystack

'I wish I never met you. I wish I never came back here, I wish I …'

'I could love you.' Silas interrupted me, his cold gaze was now glinting with emotions, 'I wish I could love you Aria. You are so beautiful.'

That old woman was right, Silas is a trickster. He knows all the ways to make my heart beat like crazy.

'I am not doing this with you.' I said, looking away.

He chuckled, taking hold of my hand, 'Someone dared to hurt you and I wasn't there. I wish I was there, I would have killed him.'

I sharply look at him, 'Why are you doing this to me Silas? Why do you love playing so much with my heart! First you make me feel all kinds of things for you and then you, you made me forget Arya and then you tell me not to love you and now, now you are saying you wish you could love me? Why are you doing this!'

'I never, I never made you feel anything for me.' He sounded genuine, 'I never made you feel lust for me. Yes, I made you forget Arya but I never made you feel a thing for me.'

I scoffed, 'I don't believe you.'

He chuckled, 'Well, it's funny since you still feel for me what you felt back then. Do you still believe it's my doing? Do you still think that I killed Arya? Who did you meet last night?'

'It's none of your business Silas.' I forgot about my injuries and tried to stand but as soon as my feet touched the ground, the pain that shot up my leg made me lose balance and I fall back, not on the bed, but on Silas's lap.

He run a hand through my hair, 'Let me heal you.'

I look at him, 'I'd rather not.'

'But I want to.' He insisted, 'I can't bear to see you hurt like this. At least, let me do it as your husband?'

'Fine.' I looked away.

He leaned, planting a kiss on my neck. A soft moan escaped me as I struggled to hold myself back from kissing him.

His hand held my arm tightly and I feel a familiar cold sensation moving through me. Electricity crackles between us.

My body which felt so weak was now surging with profound energy.

I force myself out of his grip and took two paces back, 'The night of the double moon is in two days anyway, we will be done with this charade, I will kill you or you kill me.'

For the first time, Silas laughed so hard, 'Alright, I can't wait. But …till then.' He stands and strode over to me, forcing me to retreat till there was no room left and my back is pressed against the wall.

Our eyes locked, heart galloping in my throat, 'What are you doing?'

'Will you spend the day with me?' He asked so lovingly - melting my heart.

I found myself nodding without realizing so and only snapped out of it when it dawned on me, 'Yes, I mean no! No!'

'Come on.' He took a step forward, our faces an inch from touching, 'I really want to spend today with you, alone. I will be out of your hair in a few days so it wouldn't hurt to spare me your time.'

Silas is flirting, he wants something, but what? I had to play along if I want to find out what he is scheming, 'Fine, I will get dressed and meet you.'

Smiling, he stepped back, 'We are going hunting, real hunting!' With those words, he slipped away.

'Hunting?' I could not understand a thing until it hit me, last night, Camelia said something about hunting.

She said 'happy hunting monster.'

Could she be referring to Silas? He is not human, he could be the man I am looking for!

I put on a black leather gown and tied my hair in a ponytail. We rode our horses to the woods. Lord Gras and two other guards rode with us, after what happened to me, the guards are on high alert.

They kept five paces between us as they quietly walked with us. Silas saw a deer, he lifted his bow, pulled the arrow back and took the shot. It went swiftly right into the deer's eye and its lifeless body dropped to the cold ground.

He shot me a daring glance and chuckled, 'Good shot.'

What is Silas playing at? What is he trying to achieve by doing this?

Another deer came into sight. I lifted my bow, my hands were shaking as I couldn't keep calm. All I felt was Silas's chest against my back, his hands moving slowly against mine. He took hold of the arrow, pulled it back and released it, it went right into the deer's chest.

He let me go as I spun around to face him, 'What are you doing?'

He chuckled and shrugged, 'Spending quality time with my wife?'

I rolled my eyes and went on my heels, he followed me closely, 'Remember the last time we were here? You …'

'What is wrong with you, Silas?' I sharply faced him, 'What do you think you are doing? Why are you doing this?'

He shrugged. I shook my head frustratedly, 'You are annoying! I hope you know that.'

'Why? I thought you like it when I talk to you like this?' He quirked his brow questionably.

I grit my teeth, turning to leave but he grabbed my arm and forced me to face him.

'Silas, let go.'

He shook his head, smiling in such a way that sends my heart thundering in my chest. I was trying to read Silas's face but he's good at concealing his emotions just like he is good at making my heart race.

'I am serious.' I frowned, 'Let me go. Silas! Silas.'

Suddenly, he twirled me around and took me by the hip, curling a hand around my waist as he pulled me slowly over.

His soft fingers trail slowly down my cheek, I looked shyly away, hiding my crimson red cheeks.

Silas lifted my chin up with his finger and our eyes locked. His pupil dilated as if he was drunk and the naked desire reflecting in there made my entire body vibrate with anticipation.

He leaned, whispering in my ear, 'I love it when you turn pale with desire.'

I had to use all my strength to push him gently away and timidly ran further into the woods. He launched himself after me and I ran so fast, I kept running as if the wind was carrying me. I reached the edge of the cliff and spun around, he approaches me slowly.

This man, how can I not love him?

Breathlessly, I asked 'Silas, be honest, you want something right? Why exactly are you doing this?'

He mumbled something, smiling brightly, 'Is it so hard to believe I want to spend time with you?'

'Yes, it is. So be honest for once!' I demanded.

The day blinked into night, the round alluring full moon rose at its peak - shining brightly.

The moon light illuminated on Silas's face and he started to glow like a diamond - capturing my heart.

'Just a little while longer.' He said softly.

I could no longer hold myself back and snapped, 'Did you kill Arya? Did you?'

He responded rather calmly, 'What do you think?'

I scoffed, losing my cool, 'I don't want you to play around, I am serious, be honest. Did you kill Arya just so I could marry you?'

His expression didn't waver not even for a brief second, 'I never hurt your sister.'

'Why did that woman call you a trickster?' I questioned.

'Because I am one.' He responded casually.

'What the hell is wrong with you Silas?' I lashed out, approached him and pushed him aggressively, 'Why the hell are you doing this to me?'

'That's good, you should get angry.' He said.

I felt like strangling the life out of him but still, I can't seem to.

Frustratedly, I turn around and headed towards the edge, turning to face him again,

'I will jump, I swear I will.'

He gets to his feet, dusting off his hands, 'You want me dead right? Let me tell you one truth. I am a trickster, everything I say might just be a lie.'

'What is that supposed to mean?'

He shrugged, 'Well, I might just have lied about not hurting Arya, who knows?'

Anger flooded my brain, making me see red. And as Silas reached for my hand, I could no longer hold my rage at bay.

My eyes turned red, 'I wish you would be gone, I wish you could just drop dead! I fucking curse you Silas. May you rot in hell.'

A white blinding light was emanating from my body and as the rage grew intense, the light blasted like a fire out of me and engulfed Silas.

He instantly dropped to his knees, his hair turning blonde, eyes glowing a bright red.

He looked up at me with an emotional gaze, a single crystal tear rolling down his cheek, 'It was lovely, loving you.'

With those words, before I could process what he just said, Silas got to his feet and threw himself off the cliff.

'SILAS!!!!' I screamed so loud that I woke up from my sleep. Thank god, it's just a nightmare.

Like always, Sienna came and assisted me with the dress. After I was dolled up, I step out of my room. Lord Gras is nowhere to be seen. Not that it matters to me. After that awful dream; it felt so real though, I just want to make sure my husband is well and alive.

I headed straight to Silas's chamber, when I arrived, a guard opened the door for me. I sailed in.

He is standing by the window, gazing upon the bright blue sky.

I started speaking as I advanced towards him, 'I had a very bad nightmare and had to come here to ensure you are doing alright.'

'A bad dream?' His voice was different, I couldn't help but stop abruptly on my tracks. That is when I caught sight of the slight differences, 'Silas?'

'And who could that be?' He wheeled around to face me.

I was left frozen on the spot, 'Lord Gras?' My eyes snapped open.

Mikael chuckled softly, looking dashing in the bright royal attire he donned, 'Lord Gras? Is that what you wish to call me today and not your dear… husband?'

I choked on my spit, 'My what?'
