Yanz knew that simply throwing the planks on the beast wouldn't be enough to kill it. That's why he had used the glass shards. When the first plank fell on the beast, it crashed to the ground, landing on the shards. The beast instinctively tried to back away, but Yanz was ready. He threw the remaining planks, and the beast fell onto more shards on the other side. The impact from the heavy planks, especially on its head, nearly knocked it unconscious. The glass shards caused severe blood loss, and the beast, in its pain and fury, went berserk before finally losing consciousness.
Yanz waited a bit, his heart pounding in his chest. He needed to be sure the beast was truly incapacitated. When he finally gathered the courage to check, he found the beast still breathing faintly. Despite the severe blood loss, it had survived. Yanz looked around for a large piece of glass and found one about the size of an index finger. With a swift, decisive motion, he sliced the beast's throat, ensuring it was completely dead.
Relief washed over him, but his body was still shaking from the ordeal. It was completely dark outside, the stars and moonlight illuminating the scene. Yanz took a moment to admire the beauty of the starry sky, realizing that the stars were different from those on Earth. The moon was larger and had a greenish tint, adding to the otherworldly atmosphere.
His stomach growled loudly, reminding him of his dire need for food. As he stood outside the library gate, his eyes fell on the beast. It resembled a bull from Earth but was much larger, with a dark red-orange body and four horns—two large ones where a bull's horns would normally be and two smaller ones above them. The horns had a strange golden hue.
The smell of blood was overwhelming, and Yanz, exhausted, went back inside and collapsed. He slept until dawn, the rising sun waking him. He stepped outside, feeling the cool morning breeze and hearing the birds singing. The puddle of water had grown larger, indicating it had rained during the night. The ground was muddy, and Yanz washed his face and drank some water, trying to refresh himself.
His stomach continued to rumble, and he knew he needed to eat the beast before it rotted. However, he had never butchered an animal before and had no proper tools. Using the glass piece he had used to slit the beast's throat, he cut open its skin and pushed his hand inside. The slimy texture disgusted him, and he felt like throwing up, but there was nothing in his stomach to expel. He grabbed a handful of flesh and pulled it out, washing it in the puddle to remove the blood.
The next problem was fire. He had failed to make a fire last time due to his weak body, and he definitely didn't want to experience the stomach pain again from eating raw meat. Determined, Yanz gathered some dry wood and leaves, hoping this time he could succeed in starting a fire.
He arranged the wood and leaves in a small pile and began rubbing two sticks together, trying to create enough friction to spark a flame. His hands trembled with exhaustion, but he persisted, knowing his survival depended on it. Minutes felt like hours as he worked, sweat dripping down his face. Just when he thought he couldn't continue any longer, a small ember appeared. Yanz carefully blew on it, nurturing the tiny flame until it grew larger.
The fire crackled to life, and Yanz felt a surge of relief. He quickly skewered the meat on a stick and held it over the flames, watching as it cooked. The smell of roasting meat filled the air, making his mouth water. When the meat was finally cooked, he devoured it hungrily, savoring each bite. It wasn't much, but it was enough to give him some strength.
As he ate, Yanz's mind wandered back to the events of the previous day. The beast had been a formidable opponent, and he knew there would be more challenges ahead. He needed to be better prepared. The knowledge he had gained from the book about mana was crucial, but he needed more. He needed to understand this world and its dangers if he was to survive and find a way back home.
After finishing his meal, Yanz decided to explore the library further. There had to be more books that could provide him with the knowledge he needed. He searched through the shelves, finding books on various topics, but none that seemed immediately useful. Then, tucked away in a corner, he found a book titled "Survival in Hostile Environments." It was old and worn, but Yanz hoped it would contain valuable information.
He sat down and began to read, absorbing the knowledge within its pages. The book covered a range of topics, from building shelters to finding food and water in the wild.
