"Hey Mikeal!" A boy shouted as he makes his way in the stampede crowd that just entered the school corridor.
Mikeal Park was a young sixteen year old who was considered to be a loner most of the times it's not that he didn't like having any friends or anything like that it's because it was kinda hard for him to get closer to people again after what happened to him and his family when he was still a young boy.
"Yo man I've been calling you all the way man, but you didn't seem to hear me" the boy catching his breath.
"What did you need Jeff?" Mikeal wasn't really paying much attention to Jeff except emptying his locker.
"Well since you asked so nicely I wanted you to wait up for me, but judging from what you are doing right now I guess I understand why you didn't wait up for me" instead of Jeff helping out Mikeal empty his locker, Jeff just stood and watched him do it all by himself.
"So are you going to stand next to me and not help at all?" Mikeal asked as he put one last thing in his bag.
Jeff ignored Mikeal's question "so you finally did it huh? You are going to join the special orps?" Jeff asked like he couldn't believe it.
"I just turned sixteen so I'm eligible for the special orps program" Mikeal closed his locker and just left Jeff standing.
Mikeal just turned sixteen a week before so making him eligible to join the special orps force program, a special secret organisation that fights against the man-eating creatures that have plagued the world for some years now.
Over the years the world had changed it was now infested with man-eating creatures of unknown origin they were called cannibals these monsters have caused nothing but pain, terror and suffering to those who were not infected.
Half of the world's population had suffered a major decreased because of these creatures and mankind was in desperation for a miracle to be saved from this pandemic because every defence force they had tried to fight against these cannibal creatures. But sadly they had to find out not in a nice way that nothing man-made would do any harm to them.
Up until a miracle happened five years ago humanity's prayers were answered a group of unknown individuals came forward with the knowledge they possessed, knowledge that would be beneficial to humankind in its fight against the cannibals.
These individuals decided to teach those who were brave enough to share this kind of knowledge with the rest of the world a new organisation program was created shortly after a special orps force that would serve as humanity's last hope defence.
And the law was passed that when a teenager reaches the age of sixteen they are allowed to take part of the entrance exams if only they applied prior before they turned sixteen the eligible age for applying is fourteen.
So Mikeal was one of the few that have applied.
"Whoa man wait up for me!" Jeff runs after Mikeal who was walking away from him.
Mikeal always wanted to join the special orps force ever since it came to light Mikeal had lost everything in this pandemic his family, friends and everything he ever knew and grew to love because of a few cannibals came inside his home and devoured his entire family living him all by himself. So he hated cannibals so he made it his life mission to rid all of them.
The school bell rang and every single student that was roaming around in the school corridor began another stampede off running to their classes. On their way taking Jeff away from Mikeal who just watched him being carried away.
"Mikeal help me!" Jeff cried to Mikeal for assistance but Mikeal just waved goodbye.
"So you are ready scar?" A young beautiful gothic looking girl walked behind Mikeal.
"You do know I have a name right?" Mikeal talks to this girl.
"Yeah but I like the name scar it makes you sound mysterious and dangerous" the girl smiled at Mikeal.
The reason why the girl called Mikeal scar was because of the scar he had on his right eye, a scar so visible it's a miracle it didn't damage his eye when he got it.
"You never answered my question, are you ready?" The girl asked Mikeal.
"Are you?" Mikeal returned the question.
A static interruption played over the school's speakers.
"Dear students those of you who have applied for the special orps force are requested to go to the basketball court, thank you" an announcement was made.
Mikeal and the girl just looked at each other and smiled without wasting any time they just ran to the courtyard like their smile and look just accepted a racing challenge to the courtyard.
Mikeal was the first one to go through the doors to the courtyard the girl followed shortly after to their surprise the courtyard was so full and crowded they didn't expect this kind of turn up, even Mikeal saw new faces he'd never seen before.
"Whoa" the girl who was with Mikeal was surprised by what she saw.
Everyone was seated and waiting for whatever reason they were called to the courtyard, Mikeal tried to pin point the exact place he'd find space to sit. He spotted it lucky for him.
"Come on" Mikeal grabbed the girl's hand and ran with her to the space he saw it was the last row of the bleachers.
The girl was shocked yet impressed with the stunt that Mikeal just pulled she looked at him very careful like she wanted to say something just as she was about to open her mouth, footsteps approaching were heard all the way to the other side of the room.
A woman dressed in a blue suit that went with a skirt walked in she was being accompanied by two special orps soldiers wearing a white imprinted camouflage army uniform.
The room suddenly got quiet just a second ago the courtyard was full of whispers and murmurs but when this trio walked in there was instant silence.
The woman took stand in the podium and the soldiers each stood next to her.
One soldier came forward with his hands behind his back "all rise" he ordered.
Everyone knew exactly what to do they just followed that instruction without any resistance or murmur, all of them saw what the soldier was doing so they copied him. All placed their hands behind their backs.
The other soldier came forward also with his hands behind his back "you may be seated" he instructed.
Everyone took a sit and waited on the woman to do whatever she came to do, all she did was take the papers that were sitting on the podium and fixed the microphone.
She didn't waste any time by introducing herself and what she came here for all she did was call out a few names.
"Ackles Baker, Allison Dumbbell, Johnny House ,Jessica Myers, Billy Bill, Donna Mouse, David Field, Rachel Rodriguez, Matthew End and Sarah Fair" those were the names amongst the many she called close to a hundred.
All those whose names were called they were escorted by both soldiers to the door and after they left both soldiers locked all doors then went back to their positions.
"Congratulations to you all your applications were successful" the woman stacked the papers then handed them to one of the soldier's left the podium and was escorted by the soldier she handed papers too.
Right after the door closed behind them the soldier that was left with Mikeal and the other candidates took the podium to make an announcement.
"Once again congratulations on your successful application without wasting my time and yours I'll just get into it, since today is your last day at school you are allowed permission to leave the school grounds early so you can go bid farewell to your families and take what you'll need then we'll meet here tomorrow to give you a chance to say your last goodbyes to your friends because it's going to be a while before you can see them again" just like his colleagues the soldier didn't waste any time either he just excused the class then left.
Everyone took their belongings and stood up those who were friends stayed to talk and celebrate their achievements, formed groups to celebrate except for Mikeal he just left.
It's not because he saw himself better than anyone else that wasn't it the reason being Mikeal left because he was the only one in the whole entire school to live in the other side one of the most dangerous places in the region our of the government's reach it was called the Playground because of its infestation it had of lower level ranking cannibals who resided there.
So Mikeal had to make sure he got home safely and early.
