With the tactic to destroy their surroundings Pella made several moves against the enemy. For one he cut off their senses as attack spells were flying every where, making the kobolds deff from the noise, blind from the smoke and they couldn't smell them anymore.
Secondly he destroyed all the traps prepared by the shaman and altho it was smart, the traps it made were primitive, there were pitt falls, spiked logs hanging up on the trees, spring traps....all of which could burn and that they did.
Lastly this flashy and loud attack made the wyverns notice them and basicly put the kobolds in to a pincer maneuver. All of this combined now rushed the shaman to take action.
First it just started with the kobolds trying to do a hit and run, but that was prevented by the defense squad and the void mage. It amazed every one that kobolds even knew how to be strategic and they were also amazed at how smoothly things were progressing now.
During all this Pella was giving orders, which flank to strenghten, where to attack and the pace at which they marched. Now tho as the kobolds were taking more action, he gave out new orders.
"Alrigh, keep at it for now!
Wait untill the wyverns come closer and then focus everything on defense!
We will fall back at that time and let them kill eachother!
All attack mages stop casting spells, unless some wyverns attack us instead!
He was shouting all the orders as it was fairly loud around them.
Some kobolds were trying to flank them from behind and do their own little pincer attack. All for nought, as the rear was now overseen by all the chiefs and also well defended.
The kobolds were running out of options, and were loosing badly at the moment. Finnaly with the wynerns almost upon them and the humans pressing on , the shaman showed itself with a massive fire ball flying towards the hunters.
Altho the visibility wasnt great they still noticed the giant fireball. The water mages and ice mages were given orders at the meeting and prepared for such an event.
So the fire ball was quickly dealt with a water and ice wall just ahead of the company,
in that brief moment all of the mages on offense stopped casting.
The shamans spell made quite an impact and explosion but in the end it didn't manage to harm anyone.
The shaman was dressed in a robe of sorts fastened with a skinn belt and had a bone staff, with pure red fur and yellow glowing eyes it was snarling at the humans. Offended that its mighty spell had been blocked by them, offended that its traps were useless and offended that they called the despicable wyverns in to the frey. Seething with rage that clouded its judgement, it prepared another fire ball this one even bigger and mightier.
Releasing the spell it grinned with sinnister expectations, but the spell was blocked again. Now truly mad it howled and snarled at the humans, again preparing another spell and then....There was no spell released, as behind the shaman something very heavy landed knocking it forward.
With that Pella shouted "RETREAT NOW!"
Tucked in bed Teclos was blissfully reading another book with his mom titled.
-Book of the monsters-
What is a wyvern?
They fall in to the category of monsters that are highly intelligent, like for instance griffins.
It is a two legged and two winged fire breathing beast, which usually dwells in the mountains. With tough scales comparable to that of dragons and another notable feature of them is that the tail contains a stinger full of paralyzing poison.
They have a towering height, ranging from 4 to 5 metres and a lenght of about 20.
'Man i would not want to encounter that.'
They are highly territorial and usually move in packs of up to 30, which is the biggest pack recorded yet. All of the records point to the fact that every wyvern is a wind mana user, meaning that they unlike the dragons only have one element.
Back at the battle field, the wyvern who landed first, stomped two kobolds with its feet and ate another. It was a typical show of dominance for the beast and if one looked closely they could see that it was enjoying itself, as a smile somehow could be seen on it.
The kobolds tried to throw the bone spears at them but they just ricocheted off the scales.
One kobold tho, managed to hit its eye sending it in to a world of pain and because of that it released a dead and half chewed kobold body.
The kobold that managed to hit it was gleefully smiling back at the wyvern, only for a second tho, because the enraged wyvern spat fire at it and burned the kobold to a crisp.
After that it was a propper mayhem, as more wyverns landed and started attacking the kobolds. One even tried to attack the humans which burned the forest, but was quickly shot down by the combined might of all the offense team. It was severely wounded but not dead, but that was enough to send a sign to the other wyverns still in the air, that the humans were a harder target, atleast alone.
So now all of the wyverns focused on the kobolds ...besides the shaman, most of them could do nothing but die a gruesome death.
Eaten, burned, stomped, sliced in half with wind magic , tail swiped in to the trees breaking all their bones. The wyverns were having proper fun, well the shaman actually managed to wound a wyvern but was then brutally dissposed off, first paralyzing it with their stinger and then slowly proceeding to break all of the shamans bones....the poison paralyzed only the muscles ,leaving the nervous system alone.
The shaman felt everything ,each bone breaking , each tear of its limbs, each bite and after a while of this torture it died.
It took about 45 minutes to find and kill every kobold, after that some of the wyverns looked towards the way the humans escaped but were stopped by their leader. As terribly intelligent beasts they knew better than to rouse the whole human kingdom just for fun, so they decided to return to the mountains. If the humans still stayed here they would have been killed by them ,making it seem like mutual destruction of the kobolds and humans. Sadly for them, the fun was over as the leader started flying back.
A few kilometres away, Pella stoped everyone as he noticing the wyverns flying away.
"Allright, stop and rest everyone. We made it! Haha."
Everyone was relieved and droped down to the ground panting. While the retreat was orderly it wasn't slow, they also had quite lacking mana reserves now, as that "destroy everything" strategy was very taxing.
Altho not wanting to dampen the mood Brahm raised some concerns because of that.
"Father Pella sir, what if the wyverns followed us? With our lack of mana we would all have died."
Answering him Pella said "One thing is for certain with wyverns, they are frightingly smart and cunning. Its simple really a burned village is grounds for a raid and they know that, they also know we are relentless when wronged."
