"Teach you magic?"
"Yes I would like to humbly request you to teach me magic."
Kelvin felt a stare coming from Daila who was sitting in front of him before she asked in a cold tone, "why? Why should I go out of my way to directly teach you magic?"
Kelvin was taken aback by this quickly managed to compose himself before he spoke, "It'll be beneficial to both of us if you teach me magic"
"To both of us?"
"Yes It'll be beneficial to me because I'll know how to use magic and it'll be beneficial to you because you'll be my master, the master of one of the greatest people that will definitely go down in history for generations to come."
"You sure are confident" she retorted
Seeing this he didn't even falter and responded, "I'm a man that has the mana of a god, the intelligence of a gifted man, a strong imagination and a person who has experienced many things in my life and if I can't even do that much then what can I even do?"
Hearing this Daila who was acting cold was taken a back and then started to burst out into laughter, "Hahahahahaha"
She stopped laughing after a while and told Kelvin, "You're interesting, Really interesting you know?"
"Thanks for the praise I guess?"
She stood up from her chair and spoke confidently, "I'll make sure that you become a mage That'll go down in history for generations to come I promise you."
She smiled and smiled like a kid and seeing this warm smile, Kelvin just couldn't help but smile too.
This is how their master and disciple relationship began and how it will affect their journey in the future but that's for the future, for now it's time for kelvin to learn magic.
They both were in the garden where Daila was teaching kelvin after inishing her tea.
Daila looked at Kelvin and asked him a simple question, "what do you think mana is my dear disciple?"
Kelvin seemed to be in deep thought for a while before he answered, "I think mana is the life force that permeates all living beings and the environment."
"That's not a bad answer but to be more accurate, mana is a mystical energy that permeates both the physical world and the internal essence of living beings."
Kelvin listened attentively as this knowledge would determine his future plans and his future life.
Daila paused for a moment before she spoke again, "Mana exists in two primary forms, intrinsic mana found within individuals and ambient mana present in the environment"
"The unique aspect of mana is its dual nature. It is influenced by both emotions and beliefs as well as logic, mathematics, and the physical laws of the universe. This duality creates a balance between instinctual, emotion-driven magic and structured, logical spellcasting." She continued
Kelvin raised his hand.
"Yes, what's your question?"
Kelvin genuinely confused asked, "what type of influence does emotions and beliefs even have in mana?"
Daila seemed to be a bit shocked by this question.
"You don't even know about that!? I made a speculation that you lived in the mountains or forests so you don't know too much about the logical part of mana but you don't even know about the emotional part!?"
Kelvin seeing this situation was in a bit of a pickle before he suddenly came up with an idea and spoke, "Sadly I can't tell you about the reasons behind my lack of knowledge in this field due to personal reasons and I also can't tell you this information without consulting with my friend since this involves him so I'll be remaining silent of this topic."
Daila looked at me for a few seconds before she sighed and requested for some servants to bring a black board and chalk.
After a short moment, the requested items were quickly brought and Daila started to draw some small and simple illustrations to help Kelvin better understand the topics and concepts.
"Emotions are a powerful source of mana amplification but come with volatility. Each emotion resonates with different frequencies that can either enhance or disrupt the flow of mana."
She said as she drew a picture of a smile near a text saying 'happiness' and drawing a angry face near the text 'angry'
"Emotions can also influence the shape of mana, causing spells to take on unpredictable forms if not properly controlled. For example, a fireball cast in a fit of rage might become a chaotic inferno rather than a controlled burst of flames." She continued as she drew more and more illustrations.
She looked at Kelvin and started to speak again, "It's important to know that different types of emotions affect the mana or magic in the practitioner's differently. Not everyone gets affected by emotions in the same way but in general there isn't much difference, at least in the same species."
"Same species?" Kelvin spoke with confusion.
Daila spoke with the intention to end the confusion that kelvin is holding.
"Beliefs are fundamental in shaping how many are perceived and utilised. Magic isn't just a mechanical process, it's deeply tied to the user's worldview and since almost all other species have different beliefs and worldviews than humans, it's logical to think that other species with different life spans, different intelligence and different appearance will have the same beliefs as us."
"I see…" Kelvin spoke out loud putting his hand on his chin.
"There's not much use teaching you like this for much longer so I'll be training you as of now."
"Training me as of now?" Kelvin spoke in confusion.
Reasonably so since in a way this can be seen as training because according to Dalia's explanation magic increases as the understanding of themselves increases and learning about oneself also includes learning about the function of mana in Kelvin's case,
"Normally we'll use methods like emotional regulation like meditation or increasing intelligence but since your knowledge and feeling about mana is almost non-existent for some reason, We'll have to resort to other methods."
"other methods…?"
"Yes"
"And the training starts now" her gaze turned cold as she said this.
Kelvin gulped as if predicting the absurd training that was about to start as of today, and to his misfortune that gut feeling ended up being true.
The first thing that kelvin did was to use a training method called 'Mana Sensory Meditation'. During this session, Kelvin spent around 3-4 hours in a meditative state, attempting to sense the flow of mana within his body and his surroundings. At first, this might involve him sitting in absolute silence, focusing solely on the subtle energies within. This requires intense concentration, and even a small success, like feeling a flicker of mana, can be exhausting due to the mental effort required. This training also made Kelvin almost die of boredom and also made his muscles stiff as hell.
After that training method, Kelvin was forced to try and use the mana he felt within him during the meditation to create a spell and after practising that, he finally made one after 10 minutes of constantly concentrating and trying. It took 2 hours for him to cast spells constantly without failing but the magic structure was inconsistent and so bad that even Kelvin could feel the ineffectiveness of the spell.
They both took a short break to eat lunch as it was about to be evening soon enough.
They both ate some sandwiches that were delicious. Kelvin's eyes were literally lighting up from eating the sandwich.
After eating the food and resting for a while to digest the food they were about to resume their training but as they were about to start, a servant came up to us running and told something to Daila. Kelvin could understand what she was saying due to the spirit residing within him but they couldn't understand what he was saying due to them lacking the spirit to translate the language for them.
The only reason why he could converse with the servant before to ask about Daila's whereabouts was due to the servant having affinity for light being able to use the same spell as Daila but it would only last for 1 hour at max which truly highlighted Daila's skill.
But enough going out of topic, it's time to get back to where we were,
The maid spoke out after catching her breath.
Kelvin heard what the servant said and quickly rushed to his room and soon enough he was there.
He opened the door loudly and looked into his room.
There a voice was heard.
"You really need to learn some manners, can't you allow an injured man to rest?"
There sitting by the side of the window still in his bed stood a man with black hair, a medium build with bandages over his body.
That man that seems to look angelic due to the sun radiating towards him was Ken, the only current friend he has in this new world.
Ken smiled upon seeing him and said, "Well whose fault is it that your weak?"
"Hey I'm not weak!" Ken exclaimed
"You can keep making excuses but we all know the truth."
"Excuses?…tells the guy that once peed his pants and tried to cover it up by saying that it was sweat from all the exercises he did."
"H-hey that was a long time ago you bastard!" Kelvin said, obviously embarrassed by what Ken said.
They began chatting like good old friends but before their conversation could continue, a third party got involved in their conversation.
It was a woman with an amazing figure and a very charismatic presence, that woman being Daila.
Her scar did ruin her charisma a bit but it also added a unique charm to it.
Daila approached the two friends and said, "I'm sorry to butt in between the conversation but I would like to ask you some questions, is that fine with you Ken?"
"Sure, It'll be rude to give the silent treatment to our saviour."
"I mean I guess that's true but I have one question for you"Kelvin spoke looking at Ken.
"How can you understand their language without any spelling?"
"Well that's because I planted it in him before he woke up" Daila causally answered Kelvin.
"I see.."
"What the hell are you guys talking about?" Kelvin interjected.
Right, we haven't explained that to him. Kelvin and Daila both thought
As they began to explain to Ken about the magic spirit that is in his body and how it functions.
"I see that's really interesting…" Ken seemed to be in deep thought.
Daila then asked Ken to answer a few questions which he did though the questions seemed to be asked to check whether Kelvin was lying in his testimony or not.
Guess she didn't fully trust me
After she finished questioning Ken, Daila seemed to be at more ease and the atmosphere seemed to be less tense.
"Hey do you wanna hear a joke?" Ken randomly asked out of nowhere.
Daila hearing this said, "sure why not"
"A man walks into a bar with a gun and yells "WHO SLEPT WITH MY WIFE! I'M GONNA KILL 'EM!" Then a man calmly stands up and says, "You ain't got enough bullets, mate.""
A chuckle could be heard coming out of Daila while Kelvin stared at Ken with a blank face showing disappointment.
Ken looked at Daila and said, "Did you teach my friend magic?"
Daila looked at Ken for a while and replied, "Yeah I did."
"That's great."
A silence followed the room as Ken stared at the open window on his right side.
The wind blew in his face and the sunlight shone on his face as if embracing him like how a mother would.
As he took a long breath he looked at Daila and asked, "Would you mind teaching me the language of this world?"
Daila stared at Ken before she spoke in a more serious tone, "Sadly I cannot give you lessons directly but I can arrange someone to teach you the language and also you can occasionally come join Kelvin when I'm teaching him magic if you want."
A warm smile emerged from Ken's face before he thanked Daila.
As Daila started to leave the room, Ken said, "you're a kind person Daila."
She remained silent for a few secs as she turned her head to look at Ken before she finally spoke, "I'm not as kind as you think"
As she said that, she closed the door behind her as she left.
A sigh of relief could be heard from Kelvin as Daila had left.
"The atmosphere was so tense after she responded like that, you know?"
"Yeah I know I know. I'm sorry, I guess?"
"You're still acting immature!"
"Hahahahaha"
Ken laughed at Kelvin's reaction and seemed quite amused.
After their short discussion, Ken would be teached by odios for most of the time and since Ken didn't really have anything to do as he was still being treated they would just revise the lesson they had.
Odios would teach him for 2 hours in the morning, 1 more hour after lunch and then 1 and a half hours in the evening.
And kelvin was quite pitiful having to constantly train harshly and in 2 days in his training, Daila also started to try and teach Kelvin the language of this world which gave him an even bigger headache.
At around this time, Kelvin was discharged and would occasionally join the lessons.
Currently right now Kelvin was seen jogging at a slow pace with sweat covering his face. In one of his hands, you could see a small fire emitting from it.
"God damn it! I might actually die at this rate" Kelvin exclaimed.
The sun was rising strongly which worked against Kelvin's luck
As of recent days, Daila ordered Kelvin to run or perform other physically demanding exercises while maintaining a low-level spell, such as a light orb or a levitation spell.
He jogged while maintaining spells constantly because she said that it simulates the need to cast in stressful, physically demanding situations, pushing their body and mana reserves to the brink of their limits.
Ken would always join Kelvin on a jog while casting low-level spells but sadly Ken would have to usually stop casting spells near the end of the run due to him having a low mana pool but he was most definitely still improving.
Kelvin would usually have to take a rest to catch his breath as he was lacking in the physical department but he was rapidly recovering and improving due to his passive ability, 'Passive healing' , recovering his stamina and his muscles quickly and efficiently.
Kelvin was seen laying in the ground completely tired from his jogging. His clothes and body were drenched in sweat and he started to drink water from the water canteen they brought with them.
I can't believe I have to keep doing this Kelvin sighed
As the days continued, Daila seemed to get more busy with personal matters and slowly started to teach Ken less and less but fortunately and Unfortunately, Daila had already instructed Odios to take over the lessons and also to fuze the lessons he would give to Ken with the lessons he had with kelvin or in other words, teach them together.
Kelvin would go to the cafe every 2-3 days with Odios. He would often come to relax there.
Kelvin really enjoyed the coffee there though it was a delightful experience but sadly due to his excessive training to the point he wanted to vomit, he would get sour over the thought of drinking coffee while eating cookies.
3 days later, on a cold night, Kelvin was seen coming to his room. He had gone out to take some fresh air before sleeping and was getting ready to sleep.
As he was getting ready to sleep, Ken spoke to him.
His voice was more soft and his tone was more slow as he asked, "Hey can I ask you something?"
"Yeah sure"
"How did you cast magic for the first time when we were escaping?"
Kelvin seemed to be in thought for a few seconds before he finally said, "I simply used my mental abilities to its max and reviewed through some fantasy novels to see if their principles would work here."
"Yep you still are an idiot"
"W-What the hell is wrong with you man!?Kelvin exclaimed
Ken turned more serious and said, " Normally I'll allow you to figure this out yourself but since our circumstances are not exactly the best I'll explain it to you now"
"Couldn't you have just explained whatever you plan on explaining to me when you first woke up or during the many days we were together in this world?"Kelvin argued with a valid statement.
"I wanted to see if you could figure it out yourself so I decided to give you a few days but I now realise that you are not self-aware enough." A harsh reply from Ken came piercing kelvin's heart
"Wha-"
"Now don't interrupt me any more" Ken said as he stared at Kelvin with a cold gaze,
"The thing you used back then was your intuitive thinking not whatever bullshit you just called it"
As Kelvin was about to say something, Ken stiffened his gaze as if reminding him to not interrupt him for the second time.
Ken then slowly softened his gaze and as he spoke in an understandable manner, "Let me give you an example to explain it better. Einstein had an intuitive understanding of the whole universe. To the point where, in more than a few instances he couldn't back his discoveries. Like, he literally didn't know how to prove his own theories. At one point, basically the whole scientific world considered one of his theories basically ridiculous. When he theorised 'Ether' Not existing, the whole world thought he was out of his mind. It was basically the Germans who proved his theory because he couldn't. Einstein was definitely a genius beyond understanding, but in a way completely different from other geniuses like Newton and Bernoulli, he wasn't as precise and strict and mathematically gifted as they were. He was much more chaotic and intuitive."
"And your case is also similar to that" Ken continued as he pointed his finger.
Kelvin stayed silent reviewing the thing Ken just said just now.
"Well I'll be going to sleep now and I advise you to do the same," Ken said as he got ready to go to bed.
Seeing this, Kelvin felt a bit disappointed but he couldn't sleep well that night as he couldn't help but be bothered by what his friend told him and he couldn't bother Ken as he was fast asleep.
After a while of closing his eyes, Kelvin finally fell asleep and a new day awaited him tomorrow.
