Chapter 6 - Ch 6: The Trial of Wits Begins

Finally, after discovering my "power" and utilizing it enough, I shifted my focus to the next trial—the Trial of Wits. From the name, it seemed to test how I would react in specific situations.

"Well, I won't find anything if I just stay like this," I thought to myself. "Alright, let's start the next trial."

"The moment I uttered 'next trial,' the world around me distorted, and I found myself in a bustling hospital."

"What is this?" I muttered, bewildered. "Did I escape from that place?"

For a brief moment, happiness seized me. I was on cloud nine. But suddenly, as if to interrupt my joy, a voice echoed:

["Save as many lives as you can. The number of lives you save will determine your rating."]

a nurse hurriedly approached me from out of nowhere.

"Doctor, there are many emergency cases in the ICU. Please come quickly!"

I glanced down, noticing I was in a doctor's suit. A nearby glass reflected my younger self, in the prime of life.

I tried to touch my hand, and my hand touched back. "How long has it been?" I wondered, feeling a flood of emotions as if I were on steroids.

The nurse's call broke my daze. "Doctor, please hurry!" I remembered my task and hurriedly followed her toward the ICU.

As soon as I entered the ICU, the sight that greeted me was astonishing.

"No," I cried out, overwhelmed by anxiety and depression—emotions I hadn't experienced in the blank space.

In front of me were all the patients whose lives I couldn't save—11 in total: 5 men, 3 women, and 3 children.

These were the worst fears of my life. "I still clearly remember these patients. They all died because of my mistakes,"

"I've tried to forget this part of my life for so long, but here it is, right in front of me. I couldn't possibly comprehend and face them again."

"Tears blurred my vision as I stood frozen, the weight of guilt and fear crushing me."

The memories of each patient flooded my mind—every mistake i made, every life lost. My heart raced, and I felt as though I might collapse under the weight of my past.

But the nurse's urgent voice broke through my despair. "Doctor, please! We need you!"

I slapped my cheeks hard. "Get up! What are you doing? This is your chance to rectify your past mistakes," my mind urged me.

"But what if I lose once again? What if they die again?" I thought to myself.

"Idiot, they will die anyway if you don't save them. If you save them, you can be free from your burden. But if you ignore them now, you will bear even more burden. The trial has given you a chance to rectify your mistake. Don't let it slip away," my mind insisted.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself. This was the Trial of Wits. I had to face it, no matter how painful. I had to save as many lives as I could.

With newfound determination, I wiped my tears and nodded to the nurse.

"Lead the way," I said, my voice shaky but resolute

I moved, toward the person who was in the most danger,

I moved toward the small child,

she was the person whose life I most regretted "if only I knew her symptoms properly", she was around the age of my granddaughter

She had Congenital Heart Defects, specifically a hole in the heart, I couldn't properly diagnose her

I still, remember the faces of her parent, and how heartbroken they were when they knew about her death

and, they couldn't even blame me,

"I wish they blame me",

I still remember her father word's that day

"Doctor, You took away my reason to live."

I still remember the hollow sight of her father and mother as they left the hospital

remembering the incident, my hand started to shake,

no, I have to perform surgery on her immediately, or she will die again

I clenched my right hand with my left and slapped it hard

nurse, bring me "propranolol"

the nurse ran out of the ward, and I started to prepare the surgery room

soon a nurse came back with an injection of "propranolol"

"I quickly injected the propranolol into my left hand, feeling the tremors subside as the medication took effect."

after, 2 min when everything was prepared, I injected a small girl with anesthesia and started to operate on her heart,

time continued to pass, suddenly while operating the effect of propranolol injection, which I took started to disappear

my hands which were working steadily started to shake once again

"no, no, no... steady yourself "

"Focus, focus don't give up in the middle please"

I focused my entire soul and body on the task

slowly my hand steady, as I approach the last phase

suddenly my hand started to shake even more rapidly,

"shit the side-effect of injection kicked in"

tried to steady my hand, but it was already too late before I could react

the girl lost her life, right in front of me again

"shit, $#^#$#^## "

"please no, please not this time, please not, once again" I prayed as desperately as I could

but, no one answered

I looked at the empty space, above assuming to be the voice in the blank space

"please just give me one more chance, I don't want the reward or any trait just let me save her, just one time let me save her"

no one answered

but, suddenly something clicked inside

"shit, how did I forget, I have telekinesis"

I hurriedly used telekinesis to focus my attention on the girl's heart

looking at the heart which had just stopped

I hurriedly used telekinesis, to make the heart beat once again,

"ha" it worked

it really worked not all hope was lost

I focused on the girl's heart and this time instead of a hand I used telekinesis to operate the last phase,

nurse, who was beside me, almost fainted from the miraculous sight she just saw

the girl, who had just died, her heart started to beat again

and suddenly all the equipment and tools started to float in the air and operate on the little girl

although the nurse was scared, but in the medical line, she had seen her fair share of sight, so she had a strong will

after, another 15 min of operation

the girl was still alive and operation was successfull
