Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 | Aether

After a week or so, I had the entire alphabet memorized completely back to front from the maids teaching me, the only thing that I was really successful with.. Another month passed, and I was able to walk on my own two legs.

Exploring the vast area that I considered to be a mansion compared to my cradle, it took me several minutes just to get from one side of the house to the other end.

Through my sneaky journey of exploration, from researching the interior and large landscape of where everything was, specifically the stairs that went up 3 stories. I came across many paintings that were 10 times larger than I was. I had realized that I was the daughter of a noble, in particular from my mother's side, although our family's status was rather low on the rankings.

Every now and then, the maids would give me free time to roam, in that time I'd particularly watch my Dad in the training hall. Human-like metallic dummies could be seen, which he attacked with his sword. It was also the first time I saw him use his powers, which led me to find out that he was a lightning Divergent!

You may ask, what the hell is a lightning Divergent? I'm glad you asked! When I had coincidentally stumbled into my mother's room, I had come across a peculiar book, titled 'The World Of Aether'. First, Aether is the main source of energy within this world, it resides all around us as well as people who are recognised as 'Aetherians.'

There were two main ways of using 'Aether', though to have 'Aether', you needed an 'Aether Soul', which slowly developed within a person's body if they were fortunate enough to even develop one.

It was stated that roughly 1 in 1000 people can sense Aether and to know whether or not you were capable of sensing Aether was the age of 12. 99% of the children within the lucky 1 in 1000 sensed Aether at the average age of 12. Tests were commonly given to those who were more on the richer side, and those who were middle-class and lower-class self-dragonised themselves.

Of course, there wasn't a set age to sense Aether as it was recorded that there was someone who sensed Aether at a much later age of 21, and someone as low as the age of 9 who was able to sense Aether too and the average of even developing an Aether soul was around 3 years. Some were talented and developed it much faster than others and some were much slower.

Also, using specialized items such as 'Aether crystals', could also speed up the growth of developing an Aether soul. It's also worth noting that Aetherians can use the 'Aether Soul' as a storage-like container to gather and accumulate specific elements of Aether, allowing it to 'evolve' later on. Before we get into that, let's get rid of the most obvious question.

Why don't people use 'Aether' itself? Well even though Aether is around them, as well as the fact they have an 'Aether Soul', does not mean they can control 'Aether' itself. As many have tried and failed, being deemed unusable. Which leads to 'affinities'.

Although people can't use Aether itself, people have been able to specifically pick out the sub-elements of Aether. Which are the main four elements, 'Fire, Water, Wind, Earth'. Many people can only use the one they have the highest aptitude for, because it's much more convenient, easier, and efficient.

While people can use other elements, it's much more difficult to do, as in they cannot even bring out an ounce of another element even if they trained for multiple years. You'd need to be gifted by the gods to even have two affinities instead of one.

With these four elements, it's much rarer for one to be closer attuned with fire than earth. With 1 in every 100 children being able to conjure or manipulate fire than earth, with 1 in every 5 children conjuring earth. Though it's also been recorded that depending on one's race, they may or may not be limited to a set range of affinities.

With the four main races recorded, the Kingdom of Myura, Vaun, Brav, and Numir. With Myura being the kingdom of humans, Elves being Vaun, Brav being dwarves, and Numir having mermaids, they all have different chances of obtaining an affinity compared to the others.

There are also sub-elements of the main elements which are that much rarer, which have been recorded and listed within the book, though people who have these are different from the people who have one of the four main elements. These people are called 'Divergents'. It's been recorded that humans have an innate chance of obtaining any of the four elements, with their sub-elements as well.

As Elves are more secluded within the forests and have been more familiar with that area, they've been noted to mostly have affinities of wind, water, and earth.

While the dwarves are mostly attuned with things such as earth, wind and fire. And for the mermaids, being one with the sea, they've been mostly seen with affinities closer to water as well as some other sub-elements.

That isn't all, unfortunately, some have been able to sense Aether as well as develop an 'Aether Soul' but are unable to actually produce anything. Though that isn't to say that they are useless, upon further research, there are also 'runes'.

Which allows someone to etch runes into weapons, and help things function, but they're still subpar to those with affinities as they can also etch runes to help infuse their weapons or items into 'Artefacts', allowing them to use blades that can have a chilling or a fiery effect.

'Evolution', this is when the Aether Soul becomes stronger from an external force, such as the Aetherians. Aetherians can grow stronger by using external methods, such as gathering Aether into the soul to make it stronger and eventually evolve from its previous stage.

Aetherians can also evolve if they're going through a near-death situation. These stages have been divided and are used to statistically categorize those who wish to determine their stage.

The Fifth Prism, the weakest stage, and the stage where most beginners and young teens start to train their Aether Soul. The First Prism, is the last stage, and is recorded to be the highest one can attain within our world.

The five stages go in descending order and although each stage comes after one another, it isn't necessarily two Fifth Prism Aetherians beating one Fourth Prism Aetherian.

It's unknown whether the Aether Soul can evolve further as no one has been able to so far.

Although there were still many pages left within the book, I was dragged away by the maids for being too fixated on a 'complex' book that wasn't suited for a 11 month baby. Which was probably true.

My life wasn't filled with much excitement, I was fed, dressed, explored a bit around the house that contained me and slept whenever I felt like it. What else was there to do for a baby? I was trapped most of the time by maids, and my body shuts down quickly everyday.
